  • If only they were all as reliable as.... 23 May 2006 (Forum)
Japanese manufacturers have dominated a poll of the Top 100 most reliable used cars over the past decade. The list, compiled by independent mechanical breakdown insurer, Warranty Direct, found that every car in the Top 10, and 16 out of the Top 20, were Japanese models. The Honda Accord was at number one, with Honda also taking the 6th place with the the Civic and 8th with the CR-V.
  • Voyager 14 Oct 2002 (Forum)
My neighbour is having bad probs with their Y reg petrol Voyager. She has had to change the gearbox twice in a year (lucky that it is still under warranty). Car by car breakdown says that it is the diesels that have dodgy boxes but does this apply to the petrol ones as well? If the gearbox has gone twice already, is the best advice for her to sell it before it comes out from warranty, take the financial hit and put it down as a bad experience?
  • Customer trying to reject car 15 May 2006 (Forum)
Hi Gang, We sold a customer a one year old car recently which developed a gearbox fault and broke down. It was covered by the manufacturers two year unlimited mileage warranty including breakdown. The car was fixed by their local Mercedes dealer within 24 hours.

  • Help, flying oil cap. 1995 Skoda Favorit 11 Dec 2005 (Forum)
A week ago I couldn't start my car because the battery was dead - Hubby took it out and charged it and it was fine. This afternoon I couldn't start my car again (hadn't used it for 3 or 4 days) (Skoda Favorit, 1995) - sounded pretty much like a dead battery again.
  • Car Transporters from Holland to France 2 Sep 2006 (Forum)
Noticed both last year and this that there seems to be some sort of car transporter service between Holland and some French campsite resorts. Thought at first the poor saps were breakdowns but appeared to occur on same day of each week and vehicles were undamaged and moving under own power.
  • Seat Ibiza exhaust costs 14 Jul 2004 (Forum)
Hi I have a friend who is looking for a Seat Ibiza 1.4 as a first car. Having checked the Car-by-Car breakdown I noted an issue about the exhaust on these models. It states that "If exhaust blows don't buy because replacement exhaust cost a fortune as subframe needs to be detached to fit it".
  • Cav MkIII petrol filler pipe/brakes 4 Oct 2002 (Forum)
After reading HJ car by car breakdown i have been enlightened to the fact that the petrol fumes I smell from time to time in the back of the car and boot, but with no leak evident, could be cracks in the petrol filler pipe. has anyone any experience of cost and difficulty of this job, either DIY or garage?
  • Car for a learner 28 Nov 2002 (Forum)
I am thinking about buying him a 94/94 M reg Vauxhall Corsa 1.2ls 70k miles at about £1800. I have read HJs comments in the car by car breakdown and am a bit confused whether the cambelt is chain or rubber driven. It looks quite tidy but I'm going to have a good look tomorrow. Are Corsas'ok for a first car, and is the price too much?
