Hyundai i30 (2007 - ) - Owner experiences 13 Jul 2009 (Forum)
I have read in a number of places that the 1.4 is preferable to the 1.6 and that the Hyundai offers a smoother ride. What I am interested in is the experiences of owners, problems they have had - or not, fuel economy, service from dealers, servicing costs etc. We are a small family (2 grown ups and a 5 year old) and the car appears fine for our needs bearing in mind we are down sizing from a Vectra estate. -
Ford Focus II (2004 - 2007) - Focus 05 TDCi buying advice 12 Jul 2009 (Forum)
I am trying to find out: A: What work should I be checking that they have carried out for this service is there anything in particular I should be looking for? Fuel filter changes etc? B: I noticed the rubber on the windscreen had worn and you could hear air getting in at 60-70 on the motorway. They said this would be fixed but is this a common problem with this model? -
Ford Fiesta (1995 - 1999) - 96 1.8d Noisy engine since new cambelt 25 Jun 2009 (Forum)
The plus points are, the effect of the new timing setting is that it starts quicker from cold, immediately in fact and the fuel consumption has improved as well. So should I feel lucky? It just doesn't sound smooth like it did though and it's bugging me. Does advancing the pump timing make the engine sound coarser or could it be advanced too much and I'm hearing the equivalent of pinking? -
Citroen Xantia (1993 - 2000) - 95 1.9td smokes on startup. initial lumpy running 12 Apr 2009 (Forum)
I have changed the glow plugs and the injectors, I thought it might be valve stems but there is no smoke going down hill on the over run.Could it be turbo seals worn ?The smoke is bluish white and apart from that the car drives well, fuel, oil and air filters are new, there is no sludge in the oil or water and it has done 72000 miles.any pointers much appreciated. {subject header amended to include a brief summary of question being asked} -
Ford Focus II (2004 - 2007) - 05 1.6 How to spot dual mass flywheel & other prob 15 Mar 2009 (Forum)
Specifically I would like to know how you can tell if the dual mass flywheel is about to let go and perhaps get some indication of how healthy the high pressure fuel pump is from a test drive. Is there anything else other than the usual buyers checks that I should examine? Anyone out there able to offer any advice would be a big help thanks Sam -
Ford Escort (1993 - 2000) - 98 1.8d very poor starter......tried everything!!! 21 Feb 2009 (Forum)
I have read other similar posts and replies on here and have tried everything (I think), new glow plugs, glow plug relay and all cabling checked and ok, new battery, new starter motor, new fuel filter housing and it is still the same!! Has anyone please got any other suggestions (apart from setting fire to it!). Any help greatly appreciated. -
Vauxhall Astra F (1991 - 1998) - 1998 1.6 Engine Revs by itself 23 Jan 2009 (Forum)
Lately it has been getting worse and the ENGINE orange light comes on on the dashboard, the book says that it has something to do with the fuel mixture and to consult a dealer. There is the throttle position sensor by the linkage and I am wondering if this could be the problem or is it the ECU ? Any other suggestions would be welcome as everyone that I have spoken to does not have any idea. -
Mazda MX5 (1998-2005) - Putting laid-up car back on the road 19 Jan 2009 (Forum)
The discs looked particularly corroded. I thought I'd approach it with jump leads, disconnect the fuel pump and wind it on the starter until it had some oil pressure before I attempt to start it. Any suggestions from the BR, apart from shooting her? -
Ford Escort (1993 - 2000) - 1998 1.8TDi EEC V PCM 16 Jan 2009 (Forum)
Hi - I have fitted a 1998 Escort TDi (Endura DE) engine into my 2000 Escort Van (originally non-turbo). Fairly straight swap apart from the need for an engine wiring loom and ECU to run the fuel pump advance/retard etc, etc. I have the loom from a doner Escort TD and do not have a real problem in physically integrating it with my existing loom, but the problem I am having is how the ECU takes a live feed?? -
What have you bodged today ? 4 Jan 2009 (Forum)
It was a chance to get the car jacked up, use some power tools and figuratively thumb my nose at the motor factors who hadn't got a box in stock. I've felt a teeny bit dangerous as a stream of sparks spattered into the plastic fuel tank. I've grasped a mug of steaming 20hp tea in my green neoprene gloves, passed the time of day with a neighbour, and inadvertently smeared rust and soot all over my forehead. And I've stretched 20 minutes work into 2 hours. -
Ford Focus (1998 - 2004) - 1999 1.8 Engine oil grade question? 31 Dec 2008 (Forum)
The Hayne's manual for this model says that 10w 40 engine oil can be used as well as the recommended 5w 30 oil - does this mean that only performance and fuel economy will be affected and no damage can be done to the engine through the use of the 10w 40 oil. Perhaps you know other people who have used this oil. I read somewhere that why 5w 30 is highly recommended for zetec engines is because of the narrow oil ways in the lubrication system although other people say it is because of the hydraulic tappets needing thinner oil. -
Peugeot 406 (1999 - 2004) - 01 2.0 very sluggish 110 hdi 8 Dec 2008 (Forum)
Hi Could anybody please help me find the cause of my 2001 110 hdi estate not having any power until the revs hit 2800 when the power kicks in and it drives fine. It recently had a new fuel pressure reg fitted by dealer (3 months ago) and a new walker exhaust 2 weeks ago. If i am doing 70 in 5th on a motorway and try to accelerate it will not get above 80 without me dropping into 4th and putting my foot to the floor. -
Ford Mondeo III (2000 - 2007) - 2001 2.0 TDCi non-starting when cold 2 Dec 2008 (Forum)
Seeing as it happened so many times this morning, I was able to check the warning lights, and apart from oil, handbrake and battery (obviously all on until engine starts and car is moving), the fuel light (it has more than half a tank at present) was the only other light. So then any ideas? It runs fine once eventually started, but as it took so long to start this morning, i'm guessing it may not start many more times... -
Audi A4 B6 (2001 - 2005) - 2001 2.0 Central locking and alarm problems 3 Nov 2008 (Forum)
a) The Remote C/L doesn't work, I have fitted new batteries into both keys but still nothing. b) The front doors, boot lock and fuel flap work ok from the key however both the rear doors don't lock on the C/L system. I currently am having to use the manual over ride which is a pain. c) The alarm is not working, the LED in the drivers door is not flashing or lit continuously, the hand book says if the LED is lit rather than flashing then there is a fault but say's nothing about it not being lit at all. -
Nissan Micra (1992 - 2003) - 95 1.0 Starting Problems 12 Oct 2008 (Forum)
Having read the various threads on this, should I go for coolant temp sensor first? There is a smell of fuel after cranking for a few minutes, so overfuelling could be the problem? Even tried 'Easy Start' - no joy. Ivor moved into a standalone posting -
Ford Focus (1998 - 2004) - 03 1.8 TDCI judders when starts & accelertion prob 28 Sep 2008 (Forum)
I have noticed if you turn the ignition on for a 15 seconds or so the starting is not as bad, but still judders it has been suggested by a friend it could be a software problem and the fuel not getting enough pressue from the pump? no idea any ideas or help would be greatly received. regards jedibike -
Honda CR-V (1997 - 2002) - 2000 2.0 - MIL Light 28 Aug 2008 (Forum)
Phoned local main dealer he said exhaust wouldn't turn light on and it's probaly on of the o2 sensors, but car is running as sweet as a nut and is really good on fuel. He also said, and I have read this on the net, that they don't like 'aftermarket' cats. If anybody has any advice on this I would be most gratful. Regards, Mark -
Ford Focus (1998 - 2004) - 2003 1.8 tdci 115 - lumpy running 26 Aug 2008 (Forum)
Secondly, I've been thinking about having the ECU remapped by a reputable firm to boost the rather naff low speed torque & improve fuel consumption, does anyone know if this can help the above problems - presumably they would look at the ECU and find out if anything untoward is happening anyway?? Any other thoughts? thanks -
Volkswagen Golf IV (1998 - 2004) - 98 1.4 Engine cut out whilst driving 30 Jul 2008 (Forum)
He got the engine to turn over and probably got it to hold about 600-1000 revs for about a minute whilst he had his foot on the accelerator then he turned it off. His diagonsis was an electrical fault. He said there might be something preventing the fuel getting to the engine. It now will not start and its at the garage. Has anyone experienced this or know what the problem might be? Thanks Seftonpark -
Ford Mondeo III (2000 - 2007) - 05 2.0 TDCi - Change it or keep it? - comments wel 14 Apr 2008 (Forum)
Hi folks Have a 130bhp Mondeo TDCi hatch, 3 years old this July, 42K miles. Had a new fuel pump at 38K, and has just had a new clutch kit + DMF, all under warranty. Big question - do I keep it for a while, since the things that seem to go wrong on these have all been recently replaced, or do I punt it before the warranty expires?
