Advice please on best car to go for 4 Nov 2009 (Forum)
Hi I wonder if anyone can help, we desperately need to change our car as the fuel efficiency is quite dire (chrysler grand voyager) and have been thinking of taking advantage of the scrappage scheme namely for a Toyota Yaris. However as this will have to be financed on a PCP scheme with quite a large final payment we are wondering if we may be better off with buying a second hand car, saving money is a top priority. I was hoping someone might be able to offer a few suggestions... -
Scrappage scheme problem 10 Sep 2009 (Forum)
I don't know how they input details sent in by post but whoever typed our address from registration document got post code wrong but anyway. In my opinion it just seems really petty, everything else in place, finance etc. Just wondered if anyone has had similar experience? Cheers -

PCP deals - press reporting 9 Jan 2009 (Forum)
Over the last few days I have read in various daily papers, as well as Auto Express, articles that are saying that people who have cars on PCP deals are going to get "hammered". With a PCP deal, you pay a smaller monthly amount compared to regular finance, but at the end of the period you need to make a "balloon" payment to keep the car. Now the reports are stating that in most cases, these balloon payments are more than the car is worth and therefore the owners are faced with paying this high amount or handing car back. -
I want a gorgeous car... 23 Sep 2008 (Forum)
I am thinking possibly a MINI but I won't be able to afford a post-04 model, and all the pre-04 one's have fragile gearboxes I've heard? I'd consider a new car with finance across 3/4 years if anyone knows of any 0% deals, because I refuse to pay interest... -
Nissan Micra (1992 - 2003) - Good times over ..motoring on the cheap! 3 May 2008 (Forum)
The Celtic tiger is a distant memory here in Ireland......after a succession of newish and new cars I asked myself did I really need to be held to ransom by the bank/finance company? Anyway while still driving an 06 car decided to look for a cheap runabout....looked at a few and spotted a Nisan micra '93 1 litre jobbie that looked promising. After a bit of haggling bought the car for 250 euro which is about 180 sterling. -
Websites that agree to sell your vehicle 24 Apr 2008 (Forum)
My registration fee of £79.99 would then be refunded as they don't make any money from the sales of the vehicles, they make their money from the finance. During the registration phone call the operative said that if I was unhappy with the service that I had received my account would be refunded. One week later....No phone calls from any potential purchasers...appalling customer service...operatives with extreme attitude...and now they are not happy to refund me and said that they only ever agreed to credit me - which is no use whatsoever as I would never choose to use them again. -
Car loans - have you got Payment Protection Ins 29 Oct 2007 (Forum)
According to Martin Lewis of Moneysavingexpert.com, most people who have been duped into buying this insurance can probably claim their premiums back. As many here will have taken out finance at some point in their lives to buy a set of wheels I hope that the moderators will see a firm motoring link, however I will not moan too much if this gets slotted into "I have a question". This guy knows what he's talking about. -
Replacement for Volvo 760 estate 22 May 2006 (Forum)
Leather interior. 9. Must be reliable. 10. She has a good pension and can afford 20K to spend outright, no finance. She is a business person and can do a good deal with any salesperson. She likes the V70 but is there anything else that might suit her? -
I'm a tax dodger. 13 Oct 2004 (Forum)
I booked another MOT and clutch repair a week later, and had the garage collect the Landy. During inspection they discovered the chassis was nearly all ferric oxide. Unable to finance a rebuild, the garage kindly kept the Landy on their premises and sourced a buyer (looking for a project) for me. All long winded, sorry, but the whole thing took a couple of months, during which time the VED expired but "out of sight, out of mind" I forgot all about it. -
Omega: Departure ......... 16 Feb 2003 (Forum)
My work mileage has significantly increased recently and I'm taking a company car due to some close shaves which would have caused financial & probably physical pain if any closer. The Omega has now been traded in to help finance a new car for SWOMBO. I'll keep looking at the Omega postings and will respond/help if I can. I've left some more profound comments on a recent long running Omega thread. Regards ........ Robert -
Simple but perplexing!! 4 Jul 2001 (Forum)
What is the best way to wash a car? I've just invested my hard earned in my first self-financed car which, as you'd expect coming from a main dealer, was very shiny indeed!! Obviously I want to try and keep it looking like this for as long as I can. Can anybody recommend any rules I should follow or tricks of the trade? -
Ford Transit Jumbo - How much should I claim back 24 Feb 2015 (Forum)
I bought from New a Ford Transit Jumbo in 2012 which has had various issues ever since. Within a month of buying the van I formally rejected it in writing both to the dealer and the finance compmany as not fit for purpose there was a strange whistling noise, the engine was full of rust and some other minor issues. They inspected the problem and although they could not tell me what the whistling was assured me it would be covered under warrenty. -
Mazda 6 2008 - My Solicitor - BAD ADVICE now big problems 26 Nov 2010 (Forum)
All this happened after i had a meeting with Mazda to try and come to a resolution & one of mazda's requests was that i pay the full balance off of my finance (they didn't realise until i told them that i hadn't paid) Seems a bit funny...... Maybe mazda are pushing the DCA to threaten me to pay so they have the "upper hand" Any help would be great. -
SEAT Alhambra - Short Term Right to Reject help 8 Jun 2022 (Forum)
Looking through forums and google it looks like they can charge a weekly rental fee if I had purchased the car via finance, but as I paid cash this should not apply. Can anyone help? -
Toyota Prius - To hybrid or not? 23 Nov 2021 (Forum)
The catch is that she can then give up driving and I'll be her personal, free Uber. So I've been looking at hybrids and plug-ins. I'll need finance for a plug-in...there's a cheapish Ampera locally. But my credit rating will put paid to getting that. So it'll undoubtedly be a Prius...newer model and scarily high mileage at 180K+ for £4K+. -
Mazda 3 - PCP questions 30 Jul 2021 (Forum)
If I take out the PCP deal what happens to the trade in cash, does it come off the total of the loan taken out ? Is the car owned by the finance company until the deal ends and transferred ownership if you make the balance payment. Who pays the road tax ? Can you put a personal plate on the car ? Assume owner is responsible for servicing ? -
Seat Ibiza 1.4 tdi ecomotive - Help with used car complaint 9 Jan 2020 (Forum)
Because I was unable to stop straight away this caused catastrophic engine issues with big end bearings going meaning a probable engine rebuild or replacement engine. I am currently taking to ombudsman as dealer and finance company are saying tough, you were unlucky. Did anyone know under trading standards whether oil pump failure would be down to dealer to sort, or if they should hold some kind of responsibility? -
Help pick an SUV, auto, petrol Max £16K 5 Jun 2018 (Forum)
Like toys inside, but happy to add afterwards (rear camera, parking sensors etc) Thinking of things like Mokka X, 3008, 2008, Vitara, Grandland X, Kuga etc Also what's best way to buy? Outright, cash, bank loan, car finance, PCP? Heard on PCP that you can't add anything to the car, like parking sensors or camera or any own things would want if handing back. Any cars to avoid? I'll buy from a recognised garage for some peace of mind. -
