  So far I have found two that I like and would welcome opinions on these plus any others I may have overlooked. 2012 Mercedes-Benz C Class 1.6 C180 Executive SE Plus 7G-Tronic with 30000 miles on the clock priced at £14990. (I remember HJ really liked the base model diesel C class when it first came out and he said it was the only car at the time capable of 1million miles in his opinion).

I checked the car later that evening to see if I could tell any difference left to right and it appeared that the car was a bit lower on the left side (seemed about a 1 cm down compared to right).

  More manufacturers are going the direct injection petrol route. VAG, Porsche, Mitsubishi, BMW, Mercedes Benz to name a few, with most of the others exploring the technology. Given that early examples of the VW FSI and Ford SCi have a pretty terrible reputation for longevity and reliability, and even PSA abandoned their first Di engine on reliability grounds, has this technology now improved to the point where it's a sensible long term ownership proposition?

More info at http://www.bosch.co.uk/content/language2/html/3492_4530.htm Any feedback from users? it seems a good idea but I hope the the electronic controls are " robust" Having experienced a mechanical linkage failure ( in a thunderstorm) , a wiper arm fall off onto the bonnet, the motor burn out and finally smoke belch from the dash, the Bosch approach would avoid this risk.

  Car: Mercedes Benz "E" Class Estate 320 CDI May 01 Reg: 37,000 miles Problem: I cannot get the engine revs above 2000 rpm when trying to accelerate in top gear. Engine will rev beyond 2000 rpm in neutral and in the lower gears as the car accelerates, but once in top there is no response once 2000 rpm is reached.

  Apart from quality and comfort, his main concern is to find something suitable for towing his vintage boat. Further, there are the worries about quality problems in the first-generation new E-class (post-1996); as a W124 owner, I have been persuading him of the virtues of a well maintained older model.

  Passing a Mercedes Benz dealership every to and from work I noticed this morning instead of the normal 20 + cars it normally has I could only count 1 c class and as I was passing and a few A class tucked away at the back of the forecourt.

  I'd be interested in hearing from other owners re' failure of the display on E series instruments pods. Mercedes Benz (as is usual for their "Customer Service" ) refuses to acknowledge any known early failures of the instrument panel. My present model is 2001 and owned by me from new. I have a recent letter from MB which states that they keep no figures on Early Failure, Failure Rates, Reliabilty or Design Life of ANY component.

  I hope to change car in the next week or so, and have finally whittled the choice down to the following (in no particular order): Volvo S80 2.4 SE (170 BHP) Mercedes-Benz E240 Elegance Saab 9-5 2.0/2.3 SE B** 523i SE Requirements are: peaceful cruising down busy dual-carriageways, good safety, and automatic transmission. Fuel consumption, driving dynamics and 'image' are relatively unimportant.

  Not because it's his website, I genuinely think " Honest John UK" does decent thorough tests. I am planning to go a bit upmarket when I buy a new car next time. I know Mercedes Benz have gone through a terrible patch, but I do think the New C Class is going to be a very good car. In South Africa they have closed the mercedes assembly for four months to prepare for the assembly of many right hand drive C Classes ( I read that in a South African motoring website).
