November recall round up: Fires and hacking 1 Dec 2015 (News)
The Driver and Vehicle Standards agency (DVSA) announced more than a dozen vehicle safety recalls in November 2015 over fire risks, engine stalling, doors opening unintentionally and even potential unlawful hacking. Affected manufacturers include Bentley, Chrysler/Jeep, Porsche, Maserati and Mercedes-Benz. A large number of Mercedes-Benz models are affected this month. The GLA, CLA, SLK, A-Class, B-Class, C-Class, E-Class are all subject to a recall because the crankshaft may break, damaging the engine and potentially causing an accident.

It is expected to fetch between £50,000 and £60,000. Also going under the hammer is a 1970 Mercedes-Benz 280 SL Pagoda. Having spent much of its life in Florida with its lady owner, it has been hibernating in a garage in the UK. With only 22,300 miles showing, it still has the original hardtop and should go for £60,000 to £80,000.

£25m collection of pre-war cars to be sold 3 Jul 2015 (News)
The sale of the Frederiksen Collection will take place at the Danish owner’s home. The collection features largely pre-war cars from Rolls-Royce, Bentley, Mercedes-Benz, Lagonda and Maybach. From a 1905 Woods Electric Queen Victoria Brougham, to a 1974 Citroën DS 23 Pallas, the collection provides a fascinating look at the evolution of motoring. It also includes rare vehicles such as Pebble Beach Concours winner, the 1939 Lagonda LG6 Rapide Drophead. Observers say the collection could be worth around £25m.

Another Ferrari that attracted intense interest was the 1966 Ferrari 275 GTB/6C – when it exceeded its pre-sale estimate and made £1,605,650 ($2,640,000), whereas the multiple award-winning 1968 Ferrari 330 GTC achieved a significant sales price of (£488,000) $803,000. A nicely preserved 1936 Mercedes-Benz 500K Supercharged Sports Phaeton unsurprisingly attracted bids from around the world and was sold to a well-known marque collector by telephone for £869,700 ($1,430,000). James Knight, Group Motoring Director at Bonhams, said: 'Our US department delivered strong growth in 2013 and have continued the trend into 2014 with a tremendous Scottsdale auction.
All London taxis to be zero-emissions capable from 2018 17 Jan 2014 (News)
The news was confirmed by Boris Johnson at an event in London at which several companies previewed their plans to produce vehicles to fit the requirements. Frazer-Nash, Nissan, Karsan, London Taxi Company and Mercedes-Benz were present. As well as being zero-emissions capable, the vehicles under development will all need to meet the traditional London taxi requirements, including a tight turning circle of 8m and wheelchair access.
