Duratech 1,4 with 90,000 on a 02 plate - Electrical fault on Fiesta Duratech 25 Aug 2015 (Forum)
My wife has been driving this car trouble free since we had the diesel pump, belts, etc replaced at great cost. No problems at all until the speedometer started to simply not work at random times. Nothing else wrong, just the speedo remained at zero and then suddenly started working again. -
Nissan Micra K12 2003 - Hazzard lights on all the time 23 Jun 2015 (Forum)
I took my car to a local garage and they said its not the switch, not a short circuit or fuse/relay but a faulty bcm? In the mean time, they dislodged the relay and so at the moment i can drive the car but without of course any indicators so luckily i dont drive far as i work and live in same town. I have no other problems with the car, everything else works(?!), and a cost of a new bcm is £350 plus vat plus fitting!! -
Car Buying Recommendations 4 Jun 2015 (Forum)
I have a summer house on the coast of Georgia, USA that my family and I visit every summer for about a month and I've been pestering my dad to get a car out there for my friends and I to drive around. I live in London, UK all year round but I only have a US drivers license so here's the guidelines to what I want in the car: - Sporty - has to be a car with performance and a good engine - 2 doors - Cabriolet (aka convertible) - In the Georgian heat, driving round is so much better top down - Can be new or used (but preferably not over 5 years old (2010)) - Has to have a backseat of sorts - I don't care if you can't fit a human baby in them, it has to have some sort of back seats to check a box with the dad - Budget is up to (and maybe slightly over) $90k. -
Renault Espace starter motor won't 27 Feb 2015 (Forum)
Has anyone else heard of this? Is this a well-known problem with Espaces, and if so is there a fix (apart from only driving in cold weather)? -
Ford Fiesta Zetec. 1.4 Petrol. 2004 model. - High pitched whistle when moving forward 20 Feb 2015 (Forum)
I cannot see that anything is binding or odd. The driving is quite normal. I took it round to the park and ride for the tram earlier and then brough it back (I am in Nottingham). Car sounded normal when I drove it away from Fords. It does not come on when car is started up. -
Audi A4 B6 1.9tdi avant - Loss of power 26 Oct 2014 (Forum)
He sorted the split pipe, cleared the codes and it revved fine until I drove it, it then limited at 3k but no eml this time. Seller and paperwork suggest it had a new turbo 1000 miles ago and then I drive it 60miles (sensibly) and this happens. Any idea what the problem is? Any help will be greatly appreciated as this is supposed to be my work car. Thanks in advance. -
VW Tiguan Escape - Disagreement with VW and dealership 3 Sep 2014 (Forum)
£1400 cost to us after some discount from them, 35k on the clock when we bought it and 46k when the clutch went. Now 12 months later when they serviced it we were told that the damper on the drive shaft needed replacing, dealership said £1000 for a new drive shaft. Have got onto VW customer care, now the dealership is saying, " Oh we can just do the damper for £450." VW would also chip in half. -
N/a - Neighbour using my driveway 25 Aug 2014 (Forum)
However once I do this she will no longer be able to use my drive as a walkway to get out of her car or swing her door open. I have checked my deeds and there is nothing in it to say it's needed for access to open doors etc. Other people on the estate have hedges defining boundaries. -
fiesta 1.4 tdci zetec 2008 - ongoing idle problem 5 Aug 2014 (Forum)
Hi there iv got a 2008 fiesta 1.4 tdci f6ja engine... ever since iv had this car its had a slight judder when idleing its only slight buts its noticable also iv recently had an air con service as it was out of gas but when I turned it on my revs was very erratic up and down as if it was exaggerating the idle problem... iv already had my injectors seals done and my injectors checked they are fine iv also changed my oil and replaced my air filter... recently had a diagnostic done and showed up my maf sensor was not working so iv replaced that and check the wiring all is in order but problem still persists... the car itself drives fine and pulls away through the gears no problem but I do get a bit of hesitation when driving slow in low gears so now im swaying towards the fuel delivery... any ideas and has anyone came across this before? -

Vauxhall/Astra - Astra 1.6 non starter 3 Nov 2013 (Forum)
Hi, I have a 2006 Astra 1.6 petrol. I was driving it for a couple months with the engine electronics light (car with spanner) illuminated on the dashboard. I got the fault codes cleared but the light came back. Because it didn't affect performance I continued to drive and intended to get it looked at in next service. -
Vauxhall Astra 1.4 VVT 100PS 2012 MODEL(Brand New) Low MPG / Sale of goods Act 19 Oct 2013 (Forum)
We purchased a Brand New Vauxhall Astra at the end of last year (2011) The combined MPG figure quoted was 51 (expected about 35) Upon driving the car the average has been around 25 mpg. Comparing this to other cars I have driven (That reflects driving style and local elements) I consider this unacceptable. Example - 2003 Jag XJ8 4.2 (Av 21.7 mpg) 300c (Av25 mpg) and my wifes Nissian Quashai 1.6 petrol (Av 31 mpg) I reported the low mpg to the dealer within 72 hours of purchase and again 2 month after. -
Taxis in Brussels 11 Oct 2013 (Forum)
That said, quite a number are customised by the manufacturer as taxis with price read-outs on the rear view mirror etc. why do MB and VAG continue to churn out diesel taxis if they aren't really designed for urban driving? I must pay tribute though to the engineering of Mercedes Benz. The taxi SWMBO and I took to Brussels airport to catch the early flight home was driven by Mad Max who went through at least a set of brake pads, a clutch and a gearbox in his attempt to get out of rush hour Brussels nearly killing several pedestrians/cyclists in the process and a driving style that would have destroyed most other car makes. -
HJ Real Insurance Initiative 21 Sep 2013 (Forum)
As with the "real mpg" initiative, I think there's a very subjective feel to it, as (similar to the mpg one not including driving style and the type of driving you do [town, motorways, etc], which can often account for a large variation in mpg on cars) it does not include the following:- Whether you use the vehicle for business purposes (either travelling to meetings, etc, or [more importantly] as a tradeperson [which supposedly bumps up the premium A LOT more]); What your excesses (both compulsary and voluntary) are - this obviously can make a huge difference to the headline price, which at the moment is the only one the survey goes by; Any "add-ons" to the policy, such as medical, legal and breakdown cover, which people might forget to remove (if they are given what they are on the policy document); Whether payment is one annual charge or in installments, which can increase the cost by more than 10% if memory serves. -

Audi A4 Avant or Mazda 6/Saab 9.3 - Audi A4 Avant or Mazda 6/Saab 9.3 family car 28 May 2013 (Forum)
Hi everyone, I'm looking for an big family car or an estate within a budget of just £4000. It needs to have a boot big enough for associated luggage for my business.I'm currently driving an Audi A3, 3 doors, 1.9, 09 so I would like something similar in terms of driving experience. I was looking at Audi A4 Avant 1.8 and Mazda 6 2.o petrol but I'm not really sure. I'm not bothered about fuel consumption as I do low mileage and I plan to keep the next car only for few years. -
Ford Fiesta LX - Fiesta LX (2002) opinions for commuting? 15 May 2013 (Forum)
Does anyone on here have any views or experience of the Fiesta 1.4 LX and what it's like to drive fur commuting? Reason I ask is that my R reg 306 is on its last legs, though its lasted well and a friend has said about their 2002 Fiesta LX - it's a 1.4 petrol engine with 42k on the clock, good condition, MOT and recent service etc. -
Citroen Saxo - Head gasket 24 Sep 2012 (Forum)
b) If so, is it normal to only last 18 months? c) Would I have done serious damage driving the 10 miles after coolant light came on? d) Any rough ideas as to how much it will cost to repair? I might add that it was a private sale from an elderly gentleman who seemed genuine but would I have any recourse to the garage that replaced the cam belt? -
SEAT Altea XL - Steering noise 24 Jul 2012 (Forum)
Today I realised that the noise was occurring whenever I turn the steering wheel. It's noticeable only at low speeds. The car otherwise drives as well as ever, and normally. Can anyone suggest the cause of the noise? Can anyone say whether it woould be risky to the car or me to drive it to Edinburgh, where I have to be soon, to take the matter up with Arnold Clark SEAT, or should I have it seen to here in London?
