  New car sales increased in January 2017 with registrations of hybrid and electric cars significantly up.  A total of 174,564 new cars were registered in the UK in January 2017, the biggest rise year-on-year for 12 years.

  More than 130 new cars descend on English capital for London Motor Show 2017 28 Apr 2017 (News)
  More than 130 cars will be on display and the classic A110 name will return to London, with the launch of Alpine’s new mid-engine two-seater   sports car. Powered by a turbocharged 1.8-litre engine, the 250PS sports car weighs just 1080kg and is capable of covering 0-62mph in under five seconds.  The Aventador S will also be on display.

The event is a real-world test of current and future vehicle technology.  ZOE, Renault’s new 100% electric supermini won the categories of Most Energy Efficient Small Car and the Best Pure Electric Vehicle.  Kangoo Van Z.E. won the Most Energy Efficient Light Commercial Vehicle category.  Against a wide range of competition including fully electric, hybrid and hydrogen vehicles, ZOE won the overall RAC Future Car Challenge for a production car.

Over £2,000 Mercedes-Benz are having an interesting time at the moment, with a mass recall in the same year as the launch of some very exciting cars (the CLS springs to mind).

BCA’s star car, a beautifully restored 1988F Cortina 1600E in a shade of red no 1600E was ever originally painted sold for the estimated £8,800. Another 60’s car, this time a 7,000 mile 1969H Mini Cooper 1275S, originally owned by an associate of a famous East End ‘firm’ bit to a less than estimated £10,300.

  Ferraris were well represented at the 23 May sale too, with a 2009 F430 achieving the day’s second highest price of £247,500. The modern classic had covered just 85km and unusually was finished in grey with a red leather interior. Testarossas continued their upward price trend with a low-mileage 1989 model selling for £130,500 and the well-known yellow single ‘flying mirror’ car going for just over £95,000.
