City rover solo 2006 - city rover 2006 any good? 30 Dec 2017 (Forum)
Parts dont seem to be a problem with plenty consumables etc available from the web etc. The only thing they which is remotely rusty on the car is the fuel filler neck which can be bought as a kit for around 40 pounds, if this needs done in the future, Anyone know from experience their problems? -
Astra 1.3cdti - Astra 1.3cdti lack of boost 29 Oct 2017 (Forum)
HI All Have searched lots of forums but yet to find definitive answer. Had the oil, fuel and air filter changed and after it, after a low buzzing noise from boost solenoid, the turbo stopped boosting and car became sluggish (don't think it was limp mode) Read the codes and were to do with MAF and EGR. -
Engine power choice 10 May 2017 (Forum)
I remember having an underpowered Polo courtesy car and it felt quite disconcerting to put your foot down and literally get no response. Fuel consumption not a major priority as don't do big mileage. Any maintenance or other worries about going for the most powerful engine in a range? I suppose the car is more likley to come with large wheels and thin tyres so a firmer ride. -
Ford Transit 2.4TDDi 53 plate Jumbo 90 350 - engine pulls back at 3000 revs, 21 Jan 2017 (Forum)
Yet when in Neutral and static it happily goes way beyond 3000 revs,up to 5000 possibly. I have changed the fuel filter, and we had a new clutch fitted last year (solid to replace dmf). Also have had vehicle re chipped to improve performance and economy. First time it happened as we approached M40 and accelarating into position on inside lane. -
Independent assessment - mileage 17 Jun 2016 (Forum)
Hi, I wonder if anyone here can help me please. I bought a car recently from a dealership, and the fuel consumption is really appalling. I am considering a dispute through my credit card. Having spoken to them, they have asked that I get an indendent assessment done to identify the actual mpg the car is achieving. -
Kia Venga 1.4 isg - 3 months an owner and 2500 miles 3 May 2016 (Forum)
Bags of seating room in the back and adjustable rear seats too! 2 + 3 adults or 2 + 3 kids great and a good size boot. Fuel economy every bid as bad as on the Kia forums, about 30mpg urban and up to 38 going A12-A14 Colchester - Cambridge,Addenbrookes mostly dual carriageway. But, it is a sit up and beg brick airflow wise, but not concerned about mpg/ Where it excels is that during recent house renovations it has moved masses of stuff, bags of room in there! -
BMW 3 Series Touring - Buying a used BMW estate - Budget of £4,000 18 Apr 2016 (Forum)
With a £4,000.00 budget, any advice on what to go for would be much appreciated (mileage, fuel type, age, engine size). It will probably be doing around 10,000 miles per year but not a lot of motorway driving - going to be used for commuting 7 miles to work. Economy is more important than sheer power as my ragging days are over with a little one around now. -
VW Golf 1.4 TSI DSG MK VI 2009 - Performance & economy worse since dealer service 22 Mar 2016 (Forum)
It had a major service 2 weeks ago at the local VW dealer. Since then acceleration has felt stodgy and fuel consumption has got worse by about 8%. It feels like they've disturbed the timing, but they say they won't have done anything that would impact the timing. They say they'll carry out a diagnostic check to find the cause, but want to charge me £110.00 to do it. -
Ford S-Max 1.8 TDCI - S-Max 1.8 TDCI - Misfire under load. 3 Mar 2016 (Forum)
Under load the car misfire's and really struggles to rev. However, the really peculiar thing is that it is particularly bad when the fuel tank is full and becomes less noticeable/problematic as the tank empties. At about 1/4 tank full and less, the car drives near perfect. As an example, yesterday the car was driving near perfect (even when giving it lots of welly!) -
Crossovers 22 Feb 2016 (Forum)
What is driving this change, seeing as crossovers are typically: more expensive than the equivalent hatch/estate heavier, larger frontal area and higher rolling resistance, significantly increasing fuel consumption as well as being slower like for like. Higher Cof G meaning typically worse handling and stability Not any more space efficient inside. On the plus side, entry/exit easier for infirm and old folk, higher seating position giving a decent visibility. -

Citroen C3 Picasso. - Full size spare. - Citroen Assist 31 Jan 2016 (Forum)
Also, I notice that Citroen Assistence does not cover punctures, misfueling, running out of fuel and lockoutsb but I see from their website that Citroen offer to include this cover for an extra £20 a year. I was not offered this by the main dealer, and when I enquired he new nothing about it. -
MK1 Focus 2.0 Petrol versus MK5 Golf 2.0 diesel 6 Jan 2016 (Forum)
I am amazed at the torque difference on paper between the two (131 v 236 lb-ft), but the Golf is alot heavier (16%). Fuel economy and road tax are hugely better too. I have very briefly driven the Golf and was really impressed. I don't use motorways, but accasional A road higher speed cruising, mostly B roads. -
Volvo S80 (1998 - 2006) - 05 D5 diesel cutting out... 7 Dec 2015 (Forum)
If going slowly, it stalls, but restarts with a first turn of the ignition. Very unnerving!!. About 200 miles after a new fuel relay was put in by the Volvo main agent the problem occurred again 20 times in 100 miles, no trouble today although it blinked twice yesterday. No link to engine temperature, no sluggish forewarning just a shut down for a fraction of a second. -
Hea***/Limo as family car? 3 Dec 2015 (Forum)
I've been looking at cars up to around £5000, they seem in much better condition than the MPVs I've looked at in that price range. Is insurance usually much higher than a standard length car? How about fuel consumption? I've noticed some for them come with huge engines and others with more modest 2.4 engines. I'm not sure how these things are built, would there be any problem fitting a tow hitch to a limo? -
Ford Focus II (2004 - 2007) - 2006 1.8 Intermittent power loss & smoking 22 Oct 2015 (Forum)
I'm thinking blown turbo pipe, split pipe or similar? I think it started happening when i had tuning box on car which was connected to the fuel pressure switch. I have recently cleaned my maf and changed my air filter. Cheers -
Toyota Yaris - Horn not sounding 16 Oct 2015 (Forum)
The horn is still in situ as my first thought was that the horn might be missing as the mechanic has removed most part of the engine to replace intercooler and other parts as part of the TSB. Also they replaced he fuel filter at the same time. So above is the things the mechanic has carried out. Thanks for your reply. Perfect. -
Mini Clubman 57 Diesel - Mini Clubman not starting intermittent 1 Oct 2015 (Forum)
The car has been in the Mini garage for 2 weeks now and they can't get to the bottom of it. They thought it was water in the fuel, but this has been sorted, a full service carried out and the car still refuses to start, just turns over, but never quite kicks in. The dealer is so perplexed that they have sent a Puma Case (case study) to Mini HQ to try to get a boffin to get to the bottom of it. -
Volkswagen Golf V - Turbo replacement?! 9 Jun 2015 (Forum)
Car went back to them and I'm told that the engine had been remapped (black smoke solved) and had a fuel supply issue (hesitation solved).. I have my suspicions as to whether the car actually ever needed a turbo given it still had the same issue once "fixed" the first time.. They are unlikely to have my old turbo as it was replaced over 2 weeks ago now so I can't ask for it back for independent inspection - what would you do?! -
KIA Sedona 2009 - Engine Management Light 10 May 2015 (Forum)
So firstly, any ideas what the job might be? I suspect it might be something to do with poor quaity fuel and I advised her to start using Shell Nitro+ before she spent that money. Good advice??
