Citroen C3 Picasso. - Full size spare. - Citroen Assist - D P Dance

I have just purchased a new Citroen C3 Picasso and, as I drive too and from Spain twice a year, opted for a full size spare wheel. It was with some irritation therefore that I discovered that it did not fit into the recess where the skinny spare sits. This is not a problem on the outward journey, but coming home it takes up space urgently required for rioja.

Also, I notice that Citroen Assistence does not cover punctures, misfueling, running out of fuel and lockoutsb but I see from their website that Citroen offer to include this cover for an extra £20 a year. I was not offered this by the main dealer, and when I enquired he new nothing about it.

Does anyone know if Citroen Assistance + is still being offered, and if not how I can get puncture cover added on.

If you can't drive a car without insurance for mis fueling & running out of fuel & punctures your better getting the train.

I think that you have missed the point, but I am not surprised, anyone who confuses "you're" and "your" is not likely to have thought things through too assiduously.

Roadside assistance should be just that, not cherrypicking those services which it provides.

Changing a wheel is no longer the doddle it used to be. Wheels and tyres have become much heavier, wheels are tightened to a far higher degree, many cars are only supplied with aerosoles of goo which do not solve all tyre related problems, it is simply impossible for many elderly people and some women to change a wheel. It is a sine qua non that roadside assistance covers this. I do not know why you cannot see this!

Now, do you have anything worthwhile to contribute to this discussion?

The Citroen site refers people interested in Citroen AssistancePlus to their dealer - so, yes it does seem to be available, and it looks as if it is purchased via the dealer.

The spare wheel comes with a jack and a wheel brace a simple device with the use of your foot you can loosen the nuts, you don't need a torque wrench.

Fair point if your disabled possibly you can't do it.

As for roadside assistance AA offer european cover but they all seem to have a get out which is chargable should you do it.!

I've paid the extra for the plus package on my previous Citroen C2 as well as the same offering from Peugeot on my previous and current 207 (all owned from new).

The administration of it is handled by the extended warranty company PSA use. Try calling 0870 752 7050. Have checked and that number is listed in the literature for my '11 207 and my sisters '11 C1.

In my experience its worth it for the piece of mind, especially as for me the majority of my commute is along the M65 which in parts, is unlit.

Hope this helps

Time was that cars came with proper spare wheels, a decent wheel-brace, and reasonably robust jack. Modern cars now seem to have comedy space-saver spares (if that), and absurdly flimsy wheel-braces and jacks. I carry a good 'ole spider, scissor jack and proper spare, courtesy of Fleabay ....

Chapeau if you can manage that.

I'm a physically fit bloke but only 5feet 9 and under 10 stones. Can usually manage to shift wheel nuts by jumping on a long tommy bar but a toolkit wheelbrace would more likley give me a hernia then move a air tightened nut.

My wife or daughter wouldn't have a chance.

the Citroen website says the following:

"While the Citroën Assistance programme aims to provide you peace of mind motoring, it only provides assistance in relation to manufacturer based or mechanical faults on your Citroën.

It does not provide assistance for certain non-vehicle faults such as:

• The use of incorrect fuel, or lack of fuel

Wheel changes, punctured tyres

• Instances where keys have been locked inside the vehicle, lost or stolen.

• Road Traffic Accidents"

Their position is, if you have a puncture, no spare wheel and the tin of gunge won't temporarily repair the tyre, call the AA.

Even though punctures are not as common as they were, the only way to feel secure is to have a spare wheel in the boot. And hopefully there is space in the boot for a least a space-saver wheel and tyre.

Go to Halfords and buy one of their £10 extending wheel braces. Best thing ever, allows anyone to loosen nuts that defeat the mild-steel brace supplied with cars. They have two ended sockets so will fit the 4 common sizes of nuts.

I've one in my car, and bought one for the OH, and one for my parents. They've all used them, and found them fantastic.

What are aerosoles? Are they alternatives to Doc Marten Airwairs? Do they give your car more grip or, perhaps, improve ride comfort?

"Aerosoles" - most BMW and Audi drivers I come across.

Almost managed a mild titter re. Aerosoles :-)

It does seem to me that Audi is the new BMW. How long do people think this has been the case? I always used to think they were just a nicer version of VW and a bit classy in some cases. But they are now seen as a bit of a hooligans car...unless I'm seeing all the wrong way now.

Have to observe that the facility to call a contractor out to change a wheel is an essential in some cases...mainly I'm thinking of your Mrs. (or daughter etc)...and especially if in a dangerous spot. Furthermore we all know that none of us (except those with a death wish, perhaps) would even dream about changing a wheel on the hard shoulder without the security of a big recovery/breakdown truck lit up like a Christmas Tree behind us.

And it wouldn't be right not to finish off by saying how regrettable it is that we're so often offered a tin of goo instead of a spare (even if it's only a spacesaver).

Citroen Assist in it's simplest form only covers faults with the Citroen car, not issues outside of Citroen's control, such as everything you listed. Generally, it is recommened you do not attempt to change a tyre and the side of a motorway anyway.

Get proper cover and call the professionals.
