  • Any - Greatest Living Yorkshireman? 3 Nov 2014 (Forum)
At least I haven't seen any Yorkshire spammers selling k******s or pay day loans on the forum, so here's a proper topic! The PM has communicated with Geoffrey Boycott, following the later individual's comments regarding William Haig as being the P.M's choice.
  • Ford Fiesta 02 reg - To scrap or not to scrap? 2 Oct 2014 (Forum)
I dont have home assistance and so I would have to somehow try and get it to a garage but have also been quoted £100 as a scrap price and i'm not sure whether it is worth the effort to save it given it's probably a big repair required (I would have to borrow the money for repairs in that case). Thoughts on potential fault/s and cost would be appreciated. I do need a car to get the kids about but I am coping on the bus this week so I can probably live without one for a while if I have to Thanks in advance Kevin
  • Used Car MArket - current state ? 15 Sep 2014 (Forum)
I am making the assumption that  people are really feeling the pinch so only selling vehicles when they have to ie. if theres an issue. (I'm certainly in thisposition..) I'm also in S London just inside M25 and there is hardly anything local  unless you want a Ford or Vauxhall (I dont) What are other peoples experiences. ? I had thought withthe new reg-chhange in Septemebr there would be more p-ex's coming onto the market, but if anything ther are less vehicles appearing on autotrader that catch my interest..
  • Vauxhall Monterey transmission judder 26 Apr 2014 (Forum)
Levels carefully checked. No change. Propshaft examined by garage (and me). No obvious signs of wear at all. UJ?s and splines greased, again probably for the first time! No change. Back axle oil drained and refilled. Whine greatly reduced. Vibration remains. Transfer box drained and refilled. No change.. With auto in Drive, handbrake on and footbrake applied, applying gentle revs does NOT cause any judder.

  • DSG Transmissions 8 Jun 2013 (Forum)
I'm sticking with the devil I know - by the time DSGs, and CVTs come to that, have proved their very long-term reliablity the only vehicle I'll need will be the hea-r-s-e (stupid censor software) !
  • Vauxhall Astra 1998 1.6L auto - Problems with transmission (I think..) 27 Apr 2013 (Forum)
Hi   I have a 1998/9 (S reg) Vauxhall Astra, 1.6L, automatic gearbox. It's in really nice condition, only 46,000 genuine miles on the clock, and is now beginning to give me trouble. I'd like to know if it's worth repairing or not, or at least what's likely to be wrong with it.
  • Ford Focus - Vibration wobble under load 16 Apr 2013 (Forum)
HI can any one help, had my mk1 focus for 12 years 83,000 milesnow and the last two years it has a fault thats geting slowly worse. the car only vibrates/wobbles under load 45mph+. no vibration through the steering but is felt through the whole car. the more weight is in the car and the more load it is under it gets worse. as soon as the throttle is release the vibration goes. i have had new tyres fitted, another two wheels fitted as found buckles in them. wheels balanced and tracking done, o/s drive shaft changed, new front disc and pads but alas its still there. the only thing i have noticed is when the near side front wheel is jacked up and the car is run at any speed in any gear and the brakes are applied the vibration comes apparant. if i put it in 1st 10mph with foot on throttle also on brake and  go as slow as i can it feels like something like thuding.. as soon as i release the brake the thuding stops, it doesn't do this when i do this on the drivers side. could it be drive shaft cv joints, final drive or gear box. any help please its driving me nuts!
  • Peugeot 307 SW - Buying 2nd Hand Diesel - Appreciate mileage advice 1 Mar 2013 (Forum)
Is this sort of thing acceptable if it does have a full service history?  http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/2004-54Plate-PEUGEOT-307-SW-S-HDI-DIESEL-/300867747672?pt=Automobiles_UK&hash=item460d1d7f58&_uhb=1
  • Volkswagen Golf IV TDI - Golf TDI shopping Dilemas 1 Mar 2013 (Forum)
So is this a good plan on fuel costs (12,000 a year mostly country lanes or motorway)? Is buying a mint S Reg 180K IV with proper service history, and recent cambelt for £1500 too risky on other big stuff going wrong? test drove it yesterday, and it sounded and felt very smooth. Somthing newer and less miles a better bet?
  • Ford Fiesta (1995 - 1999) - 98 1.4 Multiple misfire under load 23 Jan 2013 (Forum)
I've already tried a few things but I'm struggling to figure out what is causing my S reg fiesta 1.4 v16 zetec to misfire and hesitate under acceleration and could do with some help. Thanks in advance! The car seems a bit sluggish all the time but the misfire is especially evident under heavy acceleration such as on an uphill motorway approach slip road.
  • Peugeot 306 (1993 - 2001) - 1998 1.4 Mad Electrics and Cutting out 11 Jan 2013 (Forum)
Help! I've read though a few threads and know 306's are renown for there electrical problems but would appreciate any advice on the following. Its a 1998, 306, 1.4 petrol. On starting the other morning I drove away and could feel a misfire, a short distance later the temperature, fuel, rev and speed gauges started dancing all over the place, I had the lights on, and they went out, and eventually she cut out completely.
  • I miss my diesel! 23 Aug 2012 (Forum)
My diesel at home is a Ford S-Max 2.0 TDCi with 6sp slushbox auto. 140bhp.  It pulls a large heavy car with a surprising amount of verve and the wave of torque is marvellous coming up a hill on the motorway.  I didn't buy that engine for economy or driveability; simply because the only petrol auto was a dreadful 2.3 iron lump that no-one wanted.
  • Any - Next car - undecided between petrol or diesel 23 Jan 2012 (Forum)
I am looking at DPF free models as don't really want to fork out 1k at around 100k (will be buying 2nd hand with around 60-80k on the clock) I've had a few problems with my mazda 6 so want to move to a Jap brand with minimal/no European influence as reliability is incredibly important. The current shortlist: Honda civic (old model) with the 1.7cdti OR the type-s with the 2.0 i-vtec Honda Accord with the 2.2 cdti OR with the 2.0 i-vtec Mazda 3 sport which has the 2.0 MZR engine When buying I will be looking for FSH (evidence of cambelt change with 1.7cdti).
  • Peugeot 406 HDI (99 onwards) - ABS fault - ABS sensor 5 Dec 2011 (Forum)
Have checked sensor continuity and output (with a digital multimeter from the ABS unit multiplug) Three of them read 1.6Kohm and produce up to 0.5 volts AC rms, depending on the speed at which I spin the relevant jacked up wheel. One of them (rear n/s wheel, read from pins 8 & 9) reads open circuit (no continuity) and no output (as expected) when the ABS fault light is on, but reads as the other three when fault clears. An open circuit / no output reading could nean the sensor is genuinly open circuit or there is a break in one of the two leads that feed it.
  • Rover 75 - Rover 75 Turbo Failure Dispute 20 Sep 2011 (Forum)
I'm out about  £850 (not to mention a ruined holiday) and if the turbo failure was caused by negligence on the part of the UK garage I’d like the chance to get some or all of it back. (I have both the u/s turbo and the old filter unit). Can you advise if lack of servicing the PCV filter can cause turbo failure. If this is so, some references would be very helpful.
  • Nissan Micra K11 - Nissan Micra not firing 20 Sep 2011 (Forum)
I've only recently passed my driving test (31st March) but am on my third car already (none have been in an accident I might add!) which is a Nissan Micra (S reg 1 litre) All was good until the other night when it was brought to my attention that my tail lights had gone. Simple fix or so I thought. It turned out that the fuse had gone and in the process some wiring had burned through.
  • VW Golf - 2002 1.9TDi - PD - Air conditioning not working..... 3 Sep 2011 (Forum)
If a 12V feed is supplied to the compressor the system then works perfectly well and gets cold very quickly. The control unit is located behind the front bumper on the N/S. There are three permanent live fused feeds plus one ignition fused feed to the control unit which are present and correct. The control unit has a good earth. There is a 12V feed from the A/C switch at the control unit.
  • Ford Galaxy - Brakes fault finding master cylinder calipers 4 Aug 2011 (Forum)
Does anyone have any general advice on all this?  Is it worth replacing the seals, or should I replace the whole caliper(s)? Could the master cylinder operate at a different pressure? (It is "supposed" to be the correct one... despite the different dimension mentioned above). Thanks in advance!!!!
