  • Tesla - Ghost in the machine - overnight software updates. 23 Nov 2020 (Forum)
"For May, it was as if there was a ghost in the machine when his car — a Tesla Model S — was tugged towards the middle of a narrow road as he hugged the verge to avoid oncoming traffic. It was a feature that May, 57, did not know that his car had acquired until the drama on a Wiltshire country lane.

I had an eye test at a certain High s opticians and was not pleased with the results (mostly because it seemed hey were more interested in selling me tailored varifocals at buy 1 get 1 free prices, so asked my cousin who is a retired specialist opthamologist for advice.
  • Kia Sportage - Kia Sportage vs Mitsubishi Eclipse Cross 29 Oct 2020 (Forum)
The other one that was reasonably comfortable and seems to have a lot of tech is the zkia Sportage GT Line S. It would either be the petrol version or the mild hybrid. I felt the engine on this one was noisier than I'm used to, but I've read the mild hybrid is quieter. Does anyone have first hand experience of that?
  • Mazda CX-5 - Tyre Replacement 7 Aug 2020 (Forum)
I think they have all been on since the car was new, so have done 13,000 miles. Thirdly, do I need to match the tyre(s)? It’s a Toyo tyre the Mazdas come with. Fourthly, how much should I be paying in total? If I go with the Toyo, it looks like they are between £90 and £120 per tyre. Would appreciate any insight.
  • Land Rover Range Rover 'Classic' (1970 - 1995) - 88 3.5 cutting out 30 Jul 2019 (Forum)
The question is, is this a fault that is familiar to anyone, and can someone suggest which component(s) to change first (and where they are)? Oh, one other point! there is a cold start injector on the plenum chamber. When I had starting problems a couple of years ago (finally traced to unclean connector on the ECU) someone on here told me to disconnect it.
  • any - insurance logic - two drivers - three prices. 24 Jul 2019 (Forum)
I recently asked my insurers what effect changing the second driver would have. It upped the price from a retired ex PSV Ambulance driver with unblemished record, to a mid 50's woman with one record of a hit years ago. It upped the price by maybe £20 in £200 ish. So I said well what if I didn't have a second driver? that upped the price by maybe £10. neither ladies live at the same address and have their own car.
  • Merc A Class Key Fob Woes 1 Apr 2019 (Forum)
Happy Sunday All... Any advice much appreciated. Just recharged the battery on an early A Class ('98 S plate A160), and having what appears to be a relatively common issue with the key fob and immobiliser. The battery has been completely flat for some weeks, now recharged without issue. The key fob however now fails to operate at all.
  • Ford Fiesta - Insurance repair - reasonable time? 21 Feb 2019 (Forum)
I haven't had an insurance repair before so, a bit new to me: not concerned if the garage say "It will be another "X" week(s)" or say something a bit more concrete - I am just concerned that the latest is a little open ended, while understanding they need to check things out, at what point could it be said "Surely that's long enough"

  • BMW 120D MSPORTS - MOT pass but should be fail? 5 Oct 2018 (Forum)
The garage has looked over the car and informed me that it hasn't been recently serviced a s told  and is actually 7000 miles over it's service due date, some other minor things, that I expected, nothing's perfect.  However, more worryingly, the car has a rear shock absorber that's failed, I've been informed that the front and rear wheel bearings have failed and the 'directional' tyres we're on the wrong way round, 1 tyre contains a split, all fail points on an MOT and they said they wouldn't have passed the car.
  • Which non-Diesel Taxi car to buy? 23 Jul 2018 (Forum)

  • BMW 4 Series - Terrified when given lift 3 Jun 2018 (Forum)
I was recently given a lift by a colleague. He was going to M&S, said do you want a lift, so I said yes as I needed to pick up something for lunch. He has a BMW 4 series, and he claims it does 0-60 mph in 4 seconds. Anyway, we were on a dual carriageway at the Fareham junction south of the M27, and he accelerated very rapidly, then went round a filter lane at an incredible speed before joining the M27.
  • Chrysler Voyager (2004 - 2008) - 05 2.8 audio system 3 Feb 2018 (Forum)
I have located the amplifier and checked power supply i have 2x permanent 12v feeds, 2x battery negative and 1x ignition switch feed which are working fine. i have tried to trace the speaker wires from head unit back to the amp but i have no continuity (the colour coding is the same front and rear). i have tried to follow wiring through vehicle it appears to run down the n/s of vehicle and dissapears behind the dash, do the speaker wires go through another module in between head unit and amp. Also on the head unit there is a grey/yellow wire which is energised when head unit is powered up this wire is a power output according to the sticker on the radio but i cant find that wire at the amp where does it go?
  • Swerving to avoid a crash (theoretical) 17 Aug 2017 (Forum)
The country lane is about 3 cars wide and knowing that you've braked as hard as you can and do not have hope of stopping and there is a high hedge and no open ground to your left, are you meant to avoid the accident by swerving around car 1's front end and risk crashing into car 2, or are you meant to deliberately crash into the side of car 1 knowing you'll both be badly hurt (and that you or car 1 could still end up in the path of car 2)?
  • Renault Megane 07 reg - Selling advice needed 5 May 2017 (Forum)
It is in perfect condition mechanically and has really low mileage (26,000) as it used to be my grandads and I've only had it for about 18 months. Problem is my grandad was still driving well in to his 80's and he's knocked it about a fair bit. A large dent on drivers door, scratches on wing mirrors, bad scrapes along bumper etc. I want to get a good price so I can buy a decent replacement so I need to either get the body work sorted and then sell for a decent price or sell it for cheaper and do nothing about the body work.

  • Nail In Tyre & Other Issues 12 Sep 2016 (Forum)
Yesterday son called round with his 1yo Sandero. Had picked up twisted/bent 4" nail in r/o/s tyre. He borrowed my car overnight and this morning took his to local trusted tyre indy. (No warning light from TPMS). They pulled nail out. It had gone horizontally (IYSWIM) through the (plenty of) tyre tread, no puncture, no air loss.
  • Ford Focus Estate - Ford Focus 1.6 2006 Instrument Cluster Fault 4 May 2016 (Forum)
I see Ford Focus instrument clusters come to us everyday, both Mk1 and Mk2's for various problems! Mk1 Ford Focus clocks are common for being completely dead or have dials dropping out. Mk2 Focus clocks have more issues such as the car failing to start or going into limp mode as well as the problem I had with warning lights flashing and dials dropping out.

  • Jaguar XF - Review - 3.0D 22 May 2015 (Forum)
I was lucky enough to get a new car almost 3 weeks ago - a beautiful Jaguar XF 3.0D Premium Luxury. I had an S Type a few years back but the XF is nothing like the Jags of old.  This is pure class and modern technology which actually works.  I tried a number of different cars before chosing the Jag.
