  • I need a new medium family car 13 Jun 2010 (Forum)
I hate buying cars, but the 13yo Rover 216 I'm driving at the moment is on its last legs so I've got to bite the bullet. Some additional boot space over the Rover would be useful, but there's only a small space on the drive, so a large family car won't fit, so a Focus/Golf, etc it is .
  • Extended warranty 12 Jun 2010 (Forum)
have you suffered a breakdown caller? have you wasted the AA & RAC's time? no sorry i have not! well drive it into the ground and hopefully if it goes you will not be held responsible if you kill someone, when the wheel locks up and you hit some one head-on. Thats what i like about this warranty " NOTHING" This company actually needs to be taken to the High court in strand London to change the law, because this warranty is actually encouraging people with a low IQ to drive around with a faulty car to destruction and may find themselves doing life in prison.
  • 02 Daewoo Nubira 1.6 Estate - Too much oil - Can I save my engine?! 7 Apr 2010 (Forum)
Is it beyond the point of saving and would I need to get a mechanic to come to the car rather than me drive it to them and do any more damage?
  • Finally bought my Mondeo 21 Sep 2009 (Forum)
I took the 1 week driveaway insurance, which was pretty painless and doesn't seem to have any catches. I'm enjoying driving it at the moment. It seems a smooth ride and the handling seems good, but I am far from being an expert on these matters because this is my first car. Still getting used to handling a bigger car than the driving school Corsa!
  • Honda - New honda jazz 1.2 vtec vs Honda jazz 1.4dsi 5 Jun 2009 (Forum)
I got a honda jazz on a o3 plate a 1.4 dsi, and the car went to the dealers for its annual service, they lent me a mark 2 jazz a 1.2 vtec se. My impression of driving the mk2 is that engine wise it got a similar performance to the 1.4 idsi, when driving in local area the old jazz is more drivable due to its higher torque under 3000 revs, on the motor way the new vtec comes on its own when you go above 3000 rpm it tends to go a bit more faster.
  • A new car for my Mother 13 Mar 2009 (Forum)
and I see parking sensors and comfort extras as essential. A good working DAB radio for BBC R7 plays whilst driving from Southend to Oxford the long way on local roads would be welcome. Any other suggestions or thoughts? Thanks, Simon
  • Citroen C4 Picasso 5-st (2007 - ) - Seduced by Picasso 23 Nov 2008 (Forum)
I rather liked the EGS system, coupled with the 2.0L Hdi engine. It is also the only time my wife has actually enthused over a test drive, rather than say "it's a car in'it"? I had a C4 hatchback before the Saab and was very pleased with it, so.....why am I waking up in a cold sweat each day? I have read the reviews about it not being as sharp to drive as the S-Max or the Scenic, but I am 52 and not driving in a F1 race.
  • Ford Mondeo III (2000 - 2007) - 01 2.0 Noise from rear brake(s) 23 Jun 2008 (Forum)
Also sometimes, the noise continues slightly for a couple of seconds, albeit at a lesser volume when taking up the drive again. As if something is sticking at very low speed I guess. I'm concerned about it as I need the car for a photography shoot on Mon/Tues next week which will involve several hundred miles of driving and really do not want to get caught out.
  • Ford Mondeo II (1996 - 2000) - 2.5 V6 Auto - Auto cooling system? 15 Mar 2008 (Forum)
Me again! Mondeo cooling systems, why do they drive me mad?! My 2.5 V6 Auto is not overheating at the moment! Yay! However, when in traffic recently (a long jam!), there was a puff of steam (and a spurt of hot water) from the front of the bonnet, as the engine temp had warmed to the middle of the temp gauge and the fans had cut in.
  • Volvo V70/XC70 (2000 - 2007) - Cambelt change - D5 163Bhp (2002 yr) 13 Oct 2007 (Forum)
But as I've done about 7k over the mileage the cambelt should have been changed at I have been recommended not to drive the car unless required, which is a bit of a problem as I was planning on going away this weekend, and putting another 500 miles on it. The car is 5 years old, and I'd be happy to go away except for this cambelt and Volvo telling me not to drive it.
  • Audi A4 (1995 - 2000) - 99 Avant auto B5 Tdi - engine vibes through body 25 Sep 2007 (Forum)
So, it seems there is some coupling of the engine to the bodywork in some way, particularly when the drive-train is driving the engine. I reckoned it could be engine mounts, exhaust mounts or routing, or similar. I took it along to my local independent Audi specialist for them to diagnose the problem, but, having spent a half-day looking at the car, they have informed me that they are not sure what the cause is.
  • 'unsafe' car purchased - Advice needed 7 Jun 2007 (Forum)
She decided to take the car to a small local garage to get the car checked. After taking the car out for a test drive the owner of the garage agreed that there was something seriously wrong with the car as there was no feeling at the front end and also said it was the worst BMW he had ever driven. When they put the car up on the ramps they were shocked to find the front bushes were very soft and a bolt was also missing (not sure of the full details) They concluded that the car was not safe to drive and she should take it back to the garage it was purchased from right away to get it repaired.
  • Lane Discipline & Other Rants 28 May 2007 (Forum)
Since you pulled out in front of me, you'll be the one to blame, and I might have to clean your paint off my metalwork. What else really annoys you when driving? Oh - one other thing. During my trip I saw a car on the hard shoulder with a nasty dent in the back with a traffic officer parked behind him. Shortly ahead I noticed another car driving very erratically, and coincidentally with a matching dent in his front bumper.
  • 1998 Cinquecento SX cuts out 25 May 2007 (Forum)
Sometimes after running like that for a while the red injector fault warning light goes out and the car is Ok. Sometimes when driving (after a 10 min. stop) the car cuts out altogether and you have to put your foot flat on the accelerator to get it going again and the red injector fault light comes on, otherwise it will just eventually stop.
  • Lane discipline - a dying art? 31 Aug 2006 (Forum)
Not much fun when you have 120 miles to drive, and have already covered 360 miles that day (not all driven by me I add). It's clear that the 5-lane stretch of the M25 round by Heathrow will be wasted, to get a true 5-lane you would have to go up to a physical 8-lane layout.....
  • C-Max impressions 24 Feb 2006 (Forum)
As mentioned in another thread I have been driving a C-Max 1.6 TDCi Zetec for a few days. Generally very easy to drive and impressively flexible for a 1.6 ltr diesel even five up though has a lot less ultimate urge than the 2.0. The electrically assisted steering is interesting, the Sport setting makes it feel responsive on the back roads though nervous in a straight line above 50 mph, the Standard setting is ideal though the Comfort setting would certainly help the elderly or slight with parking.
  • How do we protect young drivers? 14 Sep 2005 (Forum)
My question is, how do we protect them? Is our test too easy? Are we preparing people to pass a test rather than drive a car? I just feel it is so sad, and after having to send home some of my part time staff who were at school with today's victim, I feel we should be doing something extra, But what? Don't want to be too specific but today's casualty was driving a group1/2 car that the majority of the BR would probably have recommended as a first car.
  • Focus TDCi smoke problems 25 Aug 2005 (Forum)
The power also seems very lacking before 2,000 rpm, but that's about right on this engine from the very little that I remember of driving it, isn't it? Any help appreciated! Blue
  • Ford Focus - Exhausted 28 Apr 2005 (Forum)
Hello all, Not so much a question just a story. Get in the car before, drive off out of the estate and I think to myself, "running a little rough today". Get onto a main road, open her up....nothing. Second gear, running like a tractor. Very odd. Carry on for 10 seconds and as the road inclines, the car...declines.
  • rover 216 cutting out & erratic idling 12 Dec 2004 (Forum)
On the motorway this morning it was holding a steady 60-65mph with my foot off the throtle, pressing the clutch pedal revealed that it was idling at just below 3000 rpm. Often when driving at 30 in 5th I can feel the car trying to accelerate as it is idling too fast. On a damp misty morning the other day it cut out about 5 times during a journey of about 40 mins. One of these was when I was driving down a hill.
