I am looking for a earlyish turbo diesel one, are there any particular points to look out for on the test drive/inspection? Thanks.

Son is telling Mum that there will shortly be legislation a) Changing the age for a provisional licence from 17 to 18; and restricting learners to driving only with approved instructors, not practicing with parents etc. Does anyone know of any planned legislation?
  • Another planet 15 Feb 2002 (Forum)
I was looking through the local paper yesterday and saw an ad for a D reg metro, Bodywork in need of attention no MOT or tax £150 ono. In the real world I am having to drive 12 miles to a breaker which will take my old Nova without charging me £25 for the privilege.
  • Focus tailgate / abs problem 29 Jul 2001 (Forum)
Has anyone had or heard of any problems with the tailgate opening by itself whilst braking to a halt, or when stationary? Also I have had the ABS operate twice recently whilst driving slowly in dry conditions. The car is a Focus 1.8 estate V reg.
  • Dacia Duster - Which engine (turbo, non-turbo) for short runs? 18 Mar 2025 (Forum)
Hi I'm looking to buy Dacia Duster and I'm happy driving slowly; pottering around on the mountain roads where I live. With that out of the way, and if there's anyone listening who hasn't left the thread in disgust, I wondered if you could help with a few questions please?
  • Peace of change 24 May 2023 (Forum)
It never put a foot wrong, other than the high level rear brake light mysteriously unplugging itself. I’m used to stretching out the battery on the electric buses I drive daily, but it won’t suit her leaden right foot driving style. But she is happy and as quiet as her new car… for now. I will say that the Leaf is practical and nice to drive. It’s quiet, it rides well, grips decently and pulls strongly, and she’s managed to get a good deal from Cinch.
  • BMW 3 Series G21 - Car Sold With Safety Critical Tyres 22 May 2023 (Forum)
I sent them some photos, and they came back to say their service team had completed the standard approved-used checks before the sale and stuck to their line that the car was safe to drive. Needless to say, I do not agree, and having spent not an inconsiderable amount of ££ on a reasonably new BMW I did not expect any issues so soon. The risk of a blowout is playing on my mind. I don't drive it like I stole it (very often ;-) ), but the roads here are twisty and the potholes are terrible.
  • advice on speeding allegation 16 Jul 2021 (Forum)
In fact, ye can't even tell if it's a human or an animal driving. Can anyone please suggest how she should respond to the Single Justice Procedural Notice, which only allows the options of guilty and not-guilty, and doesn't allow for the GENUINE option of "don't know".
  • Testing a Corolla 3 Jul 2020 (Forum)
Platinum Toyota at Trowbridge couldn't have been more helpful.  I would want the estate, but was happy to drive the hatchback as long as it was a 2.0.  They booked me out for 3 hours which was easily enough. I took 2 and a bit hours and did about 80 miles, including a stretch of the M4. Very impressed with car and dealer.
  • Beware G5 Motors Ltd 18 Feb 2019 (Forum)
I was interested in buying a car they were selling and during an initial telephone conversation they told me I could of course test drive the car. I then exchanged email correspondence with them, explaining that I had a very long way to travel so needed to agree a price beforehand, and that if the car was as described then I would make payment and drive the vehicle away.
  • Ford confirms fire-breathing Ranger Raptor pickup for UK 7 Sep 2018 (Forum)
The Ranger Raptor is powered by a new twin-turbo 2.0 diesel engine that puts out 210bhp and 500NM of torque. It will go on sale in Britain next summer. The engine drives the pick-up through the same ten-speed automatic gearbox (  Vi Khang  )as its American equivalent, the Ford F-150 Raptor. To ensure optimum performance in any conditions, drivers have six different modes – two for on-road use, and four for off-road driving.
  • Car pulls left then right then straight etc... 8 Aug 2018 (Forum)
The car is all good alignment wise according to the printout everything in the green, only thing it doesnt show is the caster, but i have a feeling it is okay because my car does drive straight sometimes. It isnt tyre wear or tyre pull as it isn't a constant and varies too much i believe for it to be tyre related, all tyres are set to the door frame recommendations. So the issue basically is the car can drive perfectly straight but a decent bump on the road can through it out, sometimes it will want to pull left.... other times it will want to steer to the right, and other times i can hold the steering wheel dead centre and it will go pretty much straight.
  • Kia Venga 1.6 2012 - Best way to drive a torque converter auto 2 Jun 2018 (Forum)
I've had my Venga 1.6 2012 since February and this may be a numpty question but can anyone suggest the "correct" way to drive a TC automatic. Let me explain: I understand how a TC box works and specifically on the Kia it uses a Torque Converter mated to a 4 speed gearbox using standard planetary gea***t. The gear selector has 1, 2 and D.
  • Hyundai ioniq - New Car & Automatic Transmission. 18 Mar 2018 (Forum)
, Mainly for two reasons, I will save some money in tax, and it's an automatic, and of course it seems comfortable. This brings me on to my questions, many people have told me that once you drive an automatic, you will never go back to a manual, I must admit, when my i40 was having its clutch replaced I was given a Mazda 3 automatic for a week, as it was the only car available. I thought it was very easy and relaxing to drive with an auto box.
  • Trying the Jaguar E-Pace 17 Mar 2018 (Forum)
I got an invitation to a Jaguar driving event to introduce the E-Pace - before I'd ordered the Audi, but I thought it would be fun to go along anyway, as it was not far from home, at Thruxton.  It was a very well-organised event, which included a road drive, a track session and a 'dynamic' session involving parking, skidpan and slalom testing.
  • VW Golf 1.4 TSI - Small claims court, private car sale 17 Oct 2017 (Forum)
They couldn`t find the problem and they began to mention having the timing chain replaced (to the tune of £1500, as a questimate) which "may" solve the problem, failing that there are no other obvious causes and they would have to strip the engine down to find out what`s going on. It`s sat on my drive now unused because I don`t trust it, I don`t particularly want to drive it, it`s just useless to me, and I have no more money to carry out these major repairs. This is starting to make me ill......................

  • VW Golf MK6 2.0 TDI GT Clutch Slip 28 Jun 2017 (Forum)
I know I might be jumping the gun a bit but don't want to go to the dealer unarmed if they say it's my fault.  We're both good drivers, I drive for a living and have done several advanced courses and my wife drives nice and steady. We did 180k in our last MK4 TDI with no issues and have covered 100s of thousands of miles in our cars without clutch issues.
