Extended warranty, urgent help 2 Sep 2019 (Forum)
ME appears to be offering a better cover as far as I can tell but the quote was about 30% more expensive. Spoke with both lots of sales both were equally good. No diagnosis charges. I know that tyres, brakes were and tear not included nor are light bulbs or battery and exhaust but everything else I can think of is. Searching Google I noted that this site spoke highly of WD up until a few years ago. -
Retail Parks with black tyre marks 22 Jul 2019 (Forum)
There is another post on here about a car with three brake replacements..... I have been to a couple of retail parks in my area. I was shocked to see the state of their car parks covered as they were covered with black tyre marks. It looked unsightly. -
Is this right time to buy a Saab 93? 18 Apr 2019 (Forum)
I was wonder if it would be a possible to find parts like the suspension system for a example wishbone, spring, Brake system calliper, servo, and the steering system rack and etc in the next 10 years. I was think of to buy and keep for the least 10 years what you think? -
Suzuki Jimny - 2019 Jimny 17 Mar 2019 (Forum)
Even on standard road/summer tyres, the traction is phenomenal - even when you think it won’t go any further, just hold a steady 1500/2000rpm and it’ll usually find grip by braking individual wheels. Inside, it’s a big step forward from the previous car, with good connectivity, climate control, heated seats etc. The only thing I can’t comment upon is it’s on road performance, as I simply haven’t driven it far enough. -
Smart motorways, variable speed cams 1 May 2018 (Forum)
As I drive along a m/way, as I approach variable speed signs, lets say I was doing 70mph in a 70 zone and close to the cams the cams switch on, or change from a higher speed limit to a lower one. As I'm quite close, it would be dangerous to slam on the brakes to slow down to 60/50/40/etc. My question is, what is, if any grace period from cams changing to a lower speed and driver crossing at higher speed. IMO, it should be at 7/10 seconds as I find it worrying as I approach these cams and they can constantly change. -
Vehicle security 22 Dec 2017 (Forum)
He was new to crooklocks and had forgotten that he had put it on. He’d also put it around the brake pedal instead of the clutch. -
Dangerous driving 6 Sep 2017 (Forum)
After a while I realised that there was a car on my side of the road coming towards me at high speed, and I braked sharply. I just missed the car which pulled in to the other side in time. It had two small lights on the front which were alternately flashing. Would this be an unmarked police car? He overtook on double white lines. -
Vauxhall Corsa - Corsa laid up 12 mths, discs rusty 5 Sep 2017 (Forum)
Hi all, my son's Vauxhall Corsa C has been SORN for 12 mths (laid up with 6mths MOT and fully drivable) and has the usual rust on discs. Its booked for an MOT next Tuesday. Do I just drive it round the back roads until the brakes are quiet and the rust is scrubbed off prior to MOT or should I be replacing pads, shoes and taking discs off and cleaning them? I'm kind of thinking I'll be lambasted for suggesting the above yet realistically isnt this what everyone does?! -
Any - Tyres 5 Apr 2017 (Forum)
Looking down the options most of the mid-range options are worse rated than C/C and even the premium ones are only B for wet grip and usually the same or worse for fuel economy. So I know everyone always says "don't scrimp on tyres and brakes" but is a C/B rated premium tyre for example, worth almost double a C/C rated tyre? -
Ford Focus Estate Ghia 2002 - side lights and tail lights all not working 12 Jan 2017 (Forum)
They work OK if I turn the lights to park, but when driving if I switch on the lights nothing at all from any of them, the dipped and full beam headlights are ok, front and rear fogs are ok, as are the brakes and indicators. I've checked the fuses (every one in both fuse boxes) and all are ok. Anyone have any thoughts on causes or solutions? -
BMW 3 Series - [URGENT] Used BMW 320i warranty query 23 Dec 2016 (Forum)
The warranty includes (As claimed by the dealer): No claims limit which covers ABS, air conditioning, braking system, casings, central locking, circuit boards, clutch, cooling systems, differential and drive line, ECU, engine, fuel systems, gearbox, steering, suspension, turbo and wheel bearings I am wondering whether or not it is worth paying for the warranty? -
Most battered car you've seen running 16 Nov 2016 (Forum)
Average mileage of the taxis was 500,000km, and most having at least an engine warning light showing. Dashboard light bingo winner was EML, brake, service and oil. No cheating by listing cars already in the scrappy - most scrappys would have turned away some of these! -
Vauxhall Astra G Petrol (1998 - 2004) - 98 1.6 Flickering Lights 20 Oct 2016 (Forum)
I'm still trying to figure out if there is anything that happens while driving that makes this worse i.e. accelerating, braking, cornering etc. The lights never go out they only flicker. The drive belt on the alternator is tight enough and the battery seems to be ok. The car was off the road and unused for a few months before I got it and the previous owner had not experienced this problem. -
Hyundai i10 - mot fail on wheel bearing 29 Sep 2016 (Forum)
Just off to some advice please my Hyundai i10 has just failed its MOT on the following nearside front Front wheel bearing has excessive play (2.5.A.3c) the car has only done 20000 miles in this time from new, I jacked up the wheel and there is a ot of movement at 3 o'clock and 9 o'clock and 6 o'clock and 12 o'clock, when I press the brakes the movement stops, therefore I'm guessing the MOT diagnostics is correct, also could it be the actual hub that's failed also bit surprised it's fails at such a low mileage and no mention of it last year, any thoughts please -
colt/c1/argo/107 - mitsubishi colt vs toyota aygo/c1/107 11 Apr 2016 (Forum)
From what i can tell the argo family from the car reliablity index has electrical and cooling and heating issues, but i have also read the clutch needs a bigger one and the brake discs go more frequently, these are easy fixes for the home mechanic. The colt on the other hand looks like the electrical, fuel system and suspension and axle seems to be quite high on repairs? Regards jon -
Any - Oldest original exhaust? 18 Mar 2016 (Forum)
Fortunately my indy was able to weld them back for a tenner and achieve yet another pass with no advisories (apart from the brake fluid, oil, coolant and belts ;-). I am amazed that a bog standard Ford exhaust can last so long. It doesn't seem long since the T**** vans were rattling around the counties with parts carefully engineered to expire about a month after the 3yr guarantee. -
Toyota Yaris - Toyota Yaris Engine Light Stretched Timing Chain 22 Feb 2016 (Forum)
The orange engine light popped up on the dash, I was already on the way to the mechanic to grease my brakes. He ran a diagnosis on the car and the code read stretched timing chain. Now my understanding is that it's pretty rare for this to happen, but if the chain snaps I'm in for a huge bill! So I'm wondering, would jump starting the car cause the computer to go a bit mad and throw this code up? -
All - Fog light anomalies 22 Feb 2015 (Forum)
Oh yes... talking of headlights, why do we see so many blown bulbs on cars of today, including tail lights and brake lights. There appears to be no enforcement on our roads. Number plates completely obscured in filth is another common and illegal sight. -

Hyundai i10 2014 - Handbrake holding 11 Aug 2014 (Forum)
Nice car but the handbrake won't hold enough to stop the car rolling completely on our (estimated) 1 in 10 driveway. I have tried getting the extra notch by pressing the foot brake home with the engine running, while pulling up the handbrake (about six notches in all), but this is still not enough. The car has been back to the supplier who certifies all is normal.
