  • Lumpy, rusting Micra 22 Feb 2004 (Forum)
It reminded me of my old Mini which was like this - is this a common fault and due to the fuel injection programming, as I have heard? Is there any way around this?
  • Advice on bodywork & MOT 10 Feb 2004 (Forum)
Somebody told me that you can put tape over any sharp protruding edges, is this true? I know I could fork out for a new wing, but on a car of this age it simply isn't worth the expense. Thanks RM
  • Anyone managed to knacker an alloy 3 Feb 2004 (Forum)
17.00 pulling out of dodgy football club carpark, tyre doesnt feel too healthy, pull into side road, squeeze into narrow space between two cars, miss judge kerb, bosh. Quite a few effs and the like, check tyre, sure enough, flat as a pancake, new alloy now in worse nick than the old one. Pants! And we lost!. Straight to the pub when I got home, 2 hours late due to poxy space saving wheel and 50mph max speed warning !!
  • Insurance - heard it all before 24 Nov 2003 (Forum)
I was reading a few postings in the archives and seeing as I have nothing to do, felt I would have a moan. Yes ok....an 18 year old lad isn't going to get the cheapest insurance but can someone please tell me that to isnure a £2000 (ish) car with third party ONLY (no fire or theft...yes that's right if it gets nicked, it's gone) it's just under 2 and a half grand?
  • Educate me. 30 Oct 2003 (Forum)
I do have an ONC in electronic engineering from when I left school in 1989(which really needs a good brush up), but talking to my old tutors from that collage, they didn't know of any off the tops of their heads. thanks for all responces in advance
  • Fiat Uno Radio Wiring 20 Sep 2003 (Forum)
Hello, i'm putting my old radio into a friends fiat uno for him but i'm having a bit of trouble. When i took his original radio out it was clear the connections wouldn't fit into the new radio so i went off to halfords to a get an adaptor.
  • S40 vs. C5 vs. Mercedes C Class 29 Aug 2003 (Forum)
Although I love the car, due to personal reasons, it is for sale now and would be grateful if you could let me know what would be a realistic price for a quick sale either from a dealer (Mercedes or third party?) or private sale.
  • Minis everywhere 19 Aug 2003 (Forum)
A sight to behold.....20 or 30 in a row on the small country lanes around where I live. Brought back memories of learning to drive in a Mini (WHW 474T where are you?). My 3.5 year old daughter loved watching and counting them. I hope the 10000+ participants enjoyed it...I was simply a bystander and not involved at all. Any backroomers there? Ian ps the only car I saw stuck broken down at the side of the road was a brand new 03 reg BMW MINI!
  • Should i get a tracker? 28 Jul 2003 (Forum)
The other argument that i will more than likely get my car back if it gets nicked - i'm not sure i'd want it back! If it does get nicked & i don't get it back, i was looking at the financial implecations. Apart from the insurance excess, i should be pretty much covered.
  • Buying a Focus 16 Jul 2003 (Forum)
My wife's N reg Fiesta will soon need replacing. Our initial thoughts were to maybe get a sports car, but then, practical thinking took over and a Ford Focus looks like a sensible bet. Our local Ford main dealer has a nice 02 one year old Focus 1.6 Ghia (10,000 mls) for £9995. This looks slightly high compared with a book dealer value of about £9300.
  • Engine running away 24 Jun 2003 (Forum)
I have a 18 month old Ford Ka and the engine has started to accelerate unexpectedly. When I brake to walking pace and then change down to second, on releasing the clutch the car accelerates away. I have to keep my foot on the brake when in a 30 zone to avoid speeding.
  • Aircon blowing hot and cold 9 Apr 2003 (Forum)
The Merc garage had a look but say they couldn't find anything wrong, I reckon they just started the car and because it worked for them at that point they ignored the issue... Any advice appreciated... TIA mike
  • Ticking Fiesta 27 Feb 2003 (Forum)
I have a 1 year old Fiesta with the 1.3 iron age engine which has covered 5,000 miles. The first thing I noticed when driving was a ticking / tapping noise at mid to high range revs. The decal on the rocker cover illustrates that the exhaust valve tappet clearance be set at 0.5mm, the handbook suggests 0.3mm.
  • Good mid-sized auto diesel 11 Feb 2003 (Forum)
Quite like a diesel Skoda Octavia Auto I was in as a taxi but perhaps a bit better than that? I'm thinking of either looking brand new or perhaps up to a year old (certainly worthwhile with the repmobiles from trade-sales.co.uk) but *not* a Vauxhall. Dan J
  • Fiat Brava 31 Jan 2003 (Forum)
SWMBO is getting a new car and last weekend we saw some Brava's in GTC in the most gross mauve colour I have ever seen. She loved them, also teh styler, which again didn't impress me. Still, it's her money so I will just go along with her choice.
  • Clatter on Nissan 1.6 at 3-4,000 rpm 13 Nov 2002 (Forum)
Only used to occur in the first two miles after a cold start, and was really loud. Now it has thankfully gone away. I got the car at 20k miles, 16 months old. iit happened with the oil Reg Vardy had serviced it with, and also with castrol Magnatec when I changed it. It disappeared shortly after I put in 5w-40 fully synthetic, but this could be a coincidence I suppose.
  • The search continues ... 18 Apr 2002 (Forum)
Bye bye Citroen Saxo (too much like the AX). Bye bye Hyundai Coupe and Ford Puma (no room in the back). Bye bye Citroen Xsara (old man's car, according to Madame). Bye bye ancient Porche 911 (not got the bottle or the wallet AND no room in the back). The short list now reads Peugeot 206 1.4HDi as a good compromise on looks, accomodation, driving position, equipment and economy.
  • Early Rover 214 injection 22 Feb 2002 (Forum)
A retired ex-colleague of mine has an early 'F' reg Rover 214 which his wife uses. The car is his ex company vehicle, has covered 57k miles and is immaculate. He has recently encountered some difficulty with his injection system and has been told by the Rover dealers in Slough, that they no longer have diagnostic equipment suitable for such an old vehicle!
  • Malta 21 Feb 2002 (Forum)
The tourist's rental vehicle of choice? I suggest a skip lorry. There, I feel better now, thank you MT PS My 13 year old son has today demonstrated a complete lack of mechanical sympathy when testing the "jeep" off-road...........so just like his Dad then!
  • Don't Try This At Home.. 13 Dec 2001 (Forum)
It's not the switch (removing it makes no difference), so at the moment I have removed the fuse. Moral: don't mess with the electrics of any modern car unless you know what you're doing. Andy (PS Any Honda experts out there tell me where the problem might be?)
