  • Clio 1.2 Erratic running 19 Apr 2005 (Forum)
He has just been away for 2 weeks and had trouble getting it going when he came back, had to take the battery off a couple of times before it would start and run. At idle it occasionally misses, but a couple of times it just refuses to respond to the throttle, usually coming back after a moment or two.
  • Laguna Starting problems 1 Mar 2005 (Forum)
Jan 2005 - failing to start, apparently loose wire on unit. Feb 05 , appears slow to turn over engine, put this down to cold weather / old battery. Feb 05 - sometimes struggling to turn engine over , sometimes OK Mar 05 - as above, but then getting terrible screech as motor failes to engage. My fears are that it's taken the teeth off the ring gearor something.
  • Civic accident write-off value 9 Oct 2004 (Forum)
The insurer paid me at market value (£3500) but I intend to dispute the offer price given the car has always been serviced by dealer. In additon, cambelt & exhaust, battery & engine oil were changed 6 months and 1 month respectively. I believe they will sell it at a cheap price to a garage for repair and re-sell the car thereafter (as the car is not really that bad damaged beyond repair, it's beyond economical repair!).
  • rangerover 4.6hse 1995 elec fault ! 29 May 2004 (Forum)
i was driving to my mates, got out of the car, as i turned engine off the horn seemed to beep, thinking nothing of it i tried to arm the remote locking but it didnt work, as i wasnt going in i ignored it as it has done this before and i just thought it might be remote batteries! when i came back to the car i again tried the remote but still nothing, i got in the car and turned key, got a message as it started up saying alternator fault, i thought it was strange but more so as i noticed the head lights flashing with a mind of their own !
  • Diesel Punto - Glowplug control unit 22 May 2004 (Forum)
I will have to double check, as the unit is £77.08 with 3 days delivery quoted Have got an offer of NGK plugs for £8 each as against Bosch at £10 Just to crown things I went to my 309 to move it, before deciding whether to tax it while I repair the 405 and the battery read 9v. Hope I have just left the interior lights on or something
  • new car advice 8 Apr 2004 (Forum)
I have had it as new from a lease then bought it. Apart from bushes I haven't spent any money on repair except usual battery, cam belt (*1). It is a three door however with 2 kids and 1 on the way. I need something bigger. I am in the market for a replacement. I am think of either a mondeo or primera. Anyone have any views on what i could pick up 9-10k at auction?
  • Megane Alternator problem 12 Mar 2004 (Forum)
The RAC man came out and said it sounded like a worn alternator idler pulley - it could be driven a short distance to the garage for repair. Later that same day, with a loud clunk the car gave up the ghost - battery light on, power steering off etc. Clearly a related alternator problem. The next RAC man said that the drive pulley on the alternator had gone - the attaching bolt was loose and appeared to be extremely worn - it was clear that it had been like that for some time.
  • 1991 ford fiesta 1.1 starting problems 12 Jan 2004 (Forum)
Started fine up until Nov 2002 when car wouldnt start at all some mornings - but then some mornings ok. Seemed ok during day. Plenty of juice in battery and engine always turned over fine. Garage never could work out what problem was as could never find the fault but towing always seemed to start the car. Garage eventually replaced all possible problem parts they could think of and referred to Ford main dealers without anyone ever really ever finding out what problem was.

  • 306 d-turbo smoke 30 Nov 2003 (Forum)
Also it doesn't feel quite as quick as it once was... doesn't always have the same kick when the turbo cuts in but sometimes does. I've changed the glow plugs, done all the usuall oil and filter changes and it's just had a new battery. One odd thing I noticed was that one of the old glow plugs either had a build up of carbon around it or it had expanded (Swolen up) in one place. Imagine a pen with a ruber band wrapped around it several times and overlapping itself... well the outline of the plug was the same as the outline to that pen (Hope that makes sense) Cheers Jim
  • throttle position sensor voltage. 5 Aug 2003 (Forum)
t want to buy a new tps unnecessarily. Has anyone had a similar experience? (The car has single point injection. Voltage across the battery, and at the other sensors seems normal. The ECU has been tested OK and the car has had new plugs, leads, lambda sensor and secondhand coil. The Cat has also been recently replaced).
  • Caravan Gross Laden Weights 26 May 2003 (Forum)
Can anyone point me towards any regulations or laws which specify correct procedures ? Incidentally, at a third weighing after I had removed gas bottles, battery, stored water, bedding, drinks and clothes, my caravan was still some 10% over weight according to police calculations ! Regards Martin Scane
  • 306 Dturbo starting 17 May 2003 (Forum)
Not starting until the plug light has been off for a few seconds used to help reduce smoke. It has new plugs / battery at 50k at a Pug dealer and this helped a bit but now no matter how long I wait after the light goes out it pumps out loads of smoke. Can anyone help?. Could it be the cambelt replacement b4 I got it was done wrong?.
  • Yes, I know, I know (Clio) 3 Oct 2002 (Forum)
Oh and the AA patrol that dragged me in thought it was the starter motor; the garage got a new one, fitted it and burned it out taking the battery with it. Where do I stand with that? I'm not the happiest bunny today. Lee. PS - Yes, I know, I know I've been warned about Clios before. But it's only done 37k, properly serviced, didn't expect this!
  • Diesel heater plug bodge 3 Jan 2002 (Forum)
So, having tested the heater plugs on the Toyota and narrowed the problem down to one of the two control boxes, I simply bolted an old Lucas starter solenoid under the bonnet, ran a thick cable from the battery to the relay, then another cable to the heater plugs. The solenoid is operated by a push switch on the dash. To start from cold, push the switch and hold in for 10 seconds. Then turn the ignition key while still pushing the switch.
  • Peugeot 307 Glx 16V (2003) - Anti-pollution warning light 2 Apr 2024 (Forum)
I did a bit of online research and there was a youtube video which seemed to suggest that removing and cleaning the timing control solenoid valve might help, and also changing the 02 sensor. Any advice most welcome! (I am no mechanic but have changed the battery and lights myself in the past - so happy to get my hands dirty to an extent as long as it doesn't involve potentially electrocuting myself or taking the engine apart!).
  • Renault Kangoo 1.4 diesel 2012 - Van electrics went off whilst driving, engine was 3 Jan 2024 (Forum)
Hi hope to get some advice please, my van battery was flat over this winter so I purchased one of those power pack jump starts from amazon. It worked and got me going. Then two weeks after I was driving and electrics went off, engine was still running I wasn't far from home so managed to get it back home even though power steering went off.
  • BMW 323 - Bought car - misled ? Advice please 8 Jul 2023 (Forum)
The roof upholstery is in very poor condition, but was juat stated the interior needs a good clean. 2. Omitted The lack of a wing mirror 3.The lack of a battery to start the car. 4. A previous colour change. 5.A large hole present in the boot floor. However, I sent photos to a few independent restoration garages and they have pretty much declined to restore it as they say it's not financially viable and the costs would way exceed the value of the car.
  • Renault Clio - Fuel gauge incorrect 28 Aug 2022 (Forum)
In the past, I have been running low and I have but £10 in just to get me to a supermarket and the gauge doesn't move, so maybe this issue will be something similar and it will sort it self out. if I run the fuel tank low.   I have read about disconnecting the battery and it will reset everything, but need a code to set everything up.   Any thoughts   Regards and thanks for any help
  • Mazda 6 Tourer - 2.2d Auto - Cold Start Problem 6 Jan 2022 (Forum)
This now happens every time I start the car from cold. Once the car has been running and the engine is warm it starts fine. I thought is might be battery related, but I changed it about 2 weeks ago and I still have the issue. Any thoughts? I was thinking glow plugs or fuel pump. I was thinking injectors, but the car starts fine when warm which is the opposite of what I have read.
