Do you trust Dealer Franchises 23 Oct 2008 (Forum)
Two recent problems with my VW TDI and my answer would be no ! When my car was under warranty just over a year ago, it had a new turbo fitted because the old one was overboosting due to sticking variable vanes and a new CV boot because the old one had split. 6 months ago, the same CV joint started making the classic clicking/grinding noises which usually means it's time for a new one. -

Where’s the joy? 10 Jan 2021 (Forum)
With this in mind I started thinking about potential less sensible and potentially less reliable replacements for old “Terrance” the Toyota now that family car duties have been handed over to “Venus” the very capable Volvo. Wife to blame for car naming btw. The Toyota has been utterly dependable and drives without fault. -
Nissan Almera Tino 2.2 dCi - Poor fuel economy 6 Apr 2019 (Forum)
I have checked tyre pressures and the air filter cleanliness, the car has FSH and was only serviced 3000 miles ago. The fuel computer says 37mpg, and filling the tank and working it out the old fasioned way only confirms the computer is accurate! Even if I put the car in 6th at 60mph on the dual carriageway, and reset the computer it refuses to indicate a better average than 39mpg. -
Ford KA 1.3i Studio - Auxiliary Belt Noise? 21 Nov 2013 (Forum)
We have done about 200 miles in the new KA and its superb, accept for the presence of a Ticking/swishing noise comming from the engine which not present in our old car. I assumed the Auxiliary Belt was to blame so for the sake of £12 I replaced it with a reputable brand but the noise is still there and although low in volume annoys me! Some findings so far: 1) It is revs and not speed dependant 2) can be heard easiest when idelling or when driving with the windows down between close houses 3) when spraying water or WD40(old belt) there is no change 4) fluid levels all fine 5) turning the steering wheel or putting the rear demister on have no affect 6) I have PAS but no aircon 7) with the old belt removed all pullies/auxiliaries rotated smoothly 8) There is no sqealing or shirping whatsoever 9) No difference after warm up period I thought the tempo was more in line with the belt cycle rather than the engine speed so I counted 100 reptitions with the car idelling and timed myself. -
French reputation for rust .... no more 12 Feb 2004 (Forum)
Time was when French cars rightly had a terrible reputation for being prone to corrosion. As a case in point, I recall going on holiday in 1980 with a Belgian friend and his family, when we drove in their eighteen month old CX from Brussels to Saint Jean de Luz. -

BMW 3 Series Coupe - Getting specialist to check over car before I buy 27 Aug 2011 (Forum)
