Mazda 2 - Creaking sound from steering wheel or column - kitefield

Hi, should I be worried about a creaking noise when parking? It only happens when I turn the steering wheel, when I am manouevring my car, a Mazda 2 Sport, in and out of a parking space, so is something to do with the steering. The car is 2.5 years old and has only done about 6000 miles, so surely nothing should have worn out yet? Thanks.

If you turn the wheel when the car isn't moving (as some do when manouevring) this puts great strain on all of the system and its joints, which could explain the creaking.

If you only turn the wheel when moving, maybe the top bush or one of the linkage joints needs looking at.
