  • Which comfortable small car for long and short trips? 16 Aug 2010 (Ask HJ)
I would like a small car, maybe new or newish. I cover two main journeys - to London (about 80 miles round trip) and to Dorset (about 180 miles round trip)...
  • Ford Focus II (2004 - 2007) - 07 1.8 Hesitating/Stumbling Zetec TDCI now fixed! 10 Oct 2009 (Forum)
We bought my wife a Ford Focus some months ago and love the car apart from it's tendancy to stumble and hesitate. This is most noticable when pulling away or when slowing down, dropping into 2nd and then trying to increase speed once more. Car was still under warranty and had covered 30k miles when we bought it.
  • Car has vanished into thin air! 29 Jul 2007 (Forum)
I find it hard to believe the car has been stolen (who would nick a 13 year 405? with a knackered engine?) and I'm worried that there's been some sort of admin error and the car is sitting in a yard racking up a massive storage charge.
  • New CAT needed at only 16months old 20 May 2005 (Forum)
But, I would have thought that a Cat, whatever the make of car, should not fail after only just over a year and 11,000 miles. Car serviced to schedule, only ever use Shell/proper petrol. End result - £350 plus fitting and a real feeling of caveat emptor. Still like the car though.
  • Garages - am I being paranoid? 15 Mar 2005 (Forum)
Wife took car into main dealers for scheduled servicing on the Wednesday. On the previous Sunday I went around checking the car, marking the oil filter etc, checking wiper blades front and rear which were all in perfect condition.
  • Pre-Registered v. Nearly New 14 Sep 2004 (Forum)
Hello Everyone Fairly soon, I plan to change my 4 year old Vectra CDX DTI. I bought it pre-registered from a car supermarket at £8000 under list and its covered 90,000 fairly trouble free miles. Though I would like a 'premium' car, my budget would only buy a car a few years old, particularly if I want a similar specification (leather, climate etc).
  • Best Car - Worst Car 23 Mar 2004 (Forum)
Similar threads have been run in the distant past, but now we have some new members, I thought it may be a good idea to kick this one off. Starting with me Best cars I ever owned: Renault 11 GTL 3 Door 1985MY. Reliable, solid, drove well, covered over 40,000 miles in it 5 years. Citroen 2.0 16v Xantia VSX. Excellent drive, very fast and comfortable. I was sorry to see it go.
  • Warranty transfer to new owner - problem 12 Nov 2003 (Forum)
The dealer now wants 2 hours labour to do the inspection at my cost. When I asked what if anything was found, would it be covered under warranty, the dealer says "we'll cross that bridge when we come to it". I'm not happy about this open ended agreement but want to keep my buyer happy. Car is booked in on Thursday for the check.
  • Mondeo TDCI 19 Oct 2003 (Forum)
This starting situation doesn't improve on each starting attempt since. I take the car to the main ford dealer and tell them the problems. I collect the car at the end of the day being told everything is fixed and the car would still not start, even outside the dealership!! I go back into the service reception and a technician comes out to see for himself that the car doesn't fire up on the trun of the key.
