  • Mitsubishi - perforation 25 Dec 2007 (Forum)
My regular car is a 2001 Mitsubishi Shogun Pinin - the baby Shogun, which works very well in London, being short , high , tough and automatic . there has been a rust blister developing for some time on the door , tight on where the window frame starts , it is about 50 mm diameter and growing . My question is : the car had a 6 year anti perforation warantee .
  • British cards in French petrol pumps 22 Oct 2007 (Forum)
I also found when heading back from the UK a couple of months ago that the Esso station just outside the ferry port in Cherbourg also takes UK cards in the automatic pumps. Hope this helps when planning next year's hols...
  • Pressure washer -what to look for when buying one 21 Oct 2007 (Forum)
Now i have a new car it will be nice to wash it now and then. Due to a stuck on aerial on the roof automatic car washes are out where they use roller brushes. Could use a hand wash places. I can't stand for long sponging the car myself. My eldest is 12 so she can't reach the high area. Toying with the idea of buying a pressure washer to wash the car with.
  • Volkswagen Golf II (1983 - 1992) - clutch cable adjustment 19 Oct 2007 (Forum)
I changed the clutch cable on my Golf Mk2 a few months back and thought that would do the job, but I am finding that the clutch is automatically adjusting itself - only it is not meant to as it's supposed to be a manual adjustment. It is adjusted by turning a nut along a bolt to tighten or slacken the cable, but the nut seems to be making its own way along the bolt over a period of weeks (more like the bolt pulling itself back and the nut winding down along the bolt).
  • Mazda Mazda 6 (2002 - 2007) - AWD -Chance to buy a neighbour's car 28 Aug 2007 (Forum)
Neighbour is buying a new Mazda CX7 and has for sale his 4 yr old Mazda 6 Sport4 - AWD 2.3 automatic estate car with 20K mls. They are almost as rare as hen's teeth - does any BR have one / had experience of in the past. If you have the TS2 model this must be similar apart from the 4WD - what are your experiences.
  • audi a4 tdi oil mist showing. 15 Apr 2007 (Forum)
Taken cover off and it appears to come from the fuel intake manifold (high level), what I assume is the automatic choke. Black object with linkage arm adjusting butterfly.). I removed the large diameter intake, just behind butterfly (crosses over top of engine coming from some sort of cooling/heating radiator) removing half circular spring clip first, fine oil is present inside tube.
  • Aircon efficiency over time 13 Apr 2007 (Forum)
I have a MK V Golf with 'climatic' semi-automatic Aircon and at this time of the year, often become paranoid as to whether it is working at its most efficient. I have read that one can expect the system to lose gas at up to at least 10% per annum which means that after 2.5 years use, mine could be down by at least 25%?
  • Advice on what to go for? 30 Mar 2007 (Forum)
The scenario is:- My Father, due to a medical matter, is having to change from a manual to an automatic. He currently drives an X-Type diesel which he is very, very happy with, budget is about 7-8k. Due to now limited mobility the mileage he will be doing is low, but he does not want to buy a 2nd hand starship!!!
  • New Jag two door model due? 7 Feb 2007 (Forum)
I haven't read of any new Jag two door model due in the new future, the XK having made its bow, but out this morning on the Fosse Way near Halford I'm sure I saw a disguised Jag belting along the other way. Automatic gearbox and distinctive V8 working overtime, strong winter sunlight picked out enough of the radiator grille mesh through the black ducktape and fabric to say "Jag". Of course manufacturers have fun using each other's design cues, but the badge was round too.
  • Freelander fuel comsumption 22 Dec 2006 (Forum)
What Car lists this car in manual form as having a combined fuel consumption figure of 37.2mpg. Allowing for mine being an automatic, am I right to be disappointed? Do any other owners have figures of their own? Johnny
  • V70 or Mondeo tdci 23 Nov 2006 (Forum)
I drive a Mondeo 2003 tdci 115bhp . I have been offered a V70 on a 51 plate but its a 2.4 petrol the 130 bhp model and an automatic . I really like the look and drive of the Volvo but how worse off will i be financially . In recent times diesel is slightly more expensive that petrol plus diesel servicing is a lot shorter than the petrol .
  • Peugeot 406 auxillary belt tensioner 14 Oct 2006 (Forum)
I orginally thought it was the timing belt tensioner bearings, but on closer inspection it seems to be the auxillary belt automatic tensioner pulley - the bearings are shot. I can actually see the pully jumping about as it ticks over and chatters. They Heynes manual does not show how to change this. I loosened the bolt that I think is holding it to the block.
  • Mondeo 2003 instrument cluster bulb 28 Sep 2006 (Forum)
Two comes back to life after a hit to the dashboard and one wouldn't - I think it is just time to change all of them. I guess the automatic lights switching the bulbs on and off many times a day doesn't help their life span! On this current model Mondeo, how do you take off the surround of the instrument cluster to get to the back to change the bulbs?
  • Any auto trans bods in the house? 22 Mar 2006 (Forum)
Hi all, I'm planning a bit of an odd ball project and need your thoughts on a potential transmission problem. To outline the project, I have a 2.2 litre front wheel drive Renault Espace automatic, to which I am planning to mid mount a 4 litre Jag engine and auto box, driving a rear axle. (That's as well as the front engine, not instead of!) I can sort most of the problems with running both ends together, but where I'm going to come unstuck is when in economy mode and just running on the front engine, the rear trans is going to cook its clutches.
  • Best 4x4 to buy 7 Mar 2006 (Forum)
I'll be using it every day for taking the kids to school and shopping but we use my husband's car at weekends. It has to be automatic and have air conditioning and a hook for my hand bag. Economy doesn't matter as I don't do many miles, but it has to be very strong as two people in cars have driven into the front of my Range Rover since I got it.
  • Celica cabriolet 4wheel steer - Spares ? 6 Mar 2006 (Forum)
Again most of the later shape cabrios seem to be Jap imports - are they much different to UK spec cars and what is the spares situation like ? I almost certainly want an automatic car BTW..... is the auto box a good one ? Generally are these celica cabriolets a good buy (reliable with reasonable riunning costs) or should one be looking at a european brand. (audi, vw, merc) Many thanks everyone !
  • Hyundai diesel engine query 1 Feb 2006 (Forum)
The tread on the smoking A4 TDi got me thinking. Our Trajet is the diesel automatic. When starting from cold, espcially in cold weather, the car pumps out a lots of white smoke, which eventually disappears as the car warms up. Is this simply condensation? It is also quite sluggish for the first 1/2 mile or so.
  • Hybrids update 13 Nov 2005 (Forum)
Recently I overheard a Toyota Prius owner in a car park telling an interested passer by that it did 60 mpg. I think hybrids will initially replace automatics, since they do the same thing - they provide a gearless, clutchess drive. Autos and hybrid transmissions are both costlier than manual gearboxes but whereas the conventional planetary + torque converter auto uses more fuel than a manual, the hybrid uses much less except in most conditions.
  • FWD & Caravan & Mud - How to get grip. 20 Aug 2005 (Forum)
Yes, I know, brave indeed to mention the "caravan" word on this website, but I need some help. I have a fwd car automatic car. It's usually okay when it gets a bit slippery as it has a winter mode which locks the car in to a higher gear when it gets slippery. However I'm going to start towing a caravan and reckon that a wet muddy grass field, courtesy of our exceptional summer may be too much.
  • Pierburg 2E3 carb stalling 22 Jan 2005 (Forum)
It has always been excellent but now has an annoying problem. It starts fine and runs well on the automatic choke for about 3 to 5 minutes. Then when you stop at lights you hear the engine speed drop and it tends to stall at idling. When the engine is warmed up (i.e a few minutes later) it idles very well.
