  I have had the timing belt done, new water pump, new coolant, oil and filters all replaced in the last 3 months. Car was running like new. However now after leaving the car stood overnight or for more than 6-7 hours so the engine is cold, it seems to hesitate after you pull away most noticably in second gear between 2000-3000rpm this only last for a few minutes and once things get warm the car runs fine.

  Hello, I have a Ford Mondeo Ghia 2001 Petrol Manual. I had started to run low on oil - my oil was still above the min level on the dip stick. I stopped at a Shell Garage and bought oil and topped the oil up. The car run fine for the rest of the day. However the next day after driving the car for around 15 minutes the car became sluggish.

  Recently bought a 2005 Jag X-Type 2.0lt diesel estate, now the motor is under warranty but a bit of technical info would be appreciated. It has on at least four occasions started up as though it was running on three cylinders usually after it has run for an hour or so, and when it has done this the engine warning light has also come on, with the ignition turned off then restarted it all clears are every thing appears back to normal, as I said it has done this at least four times in the last two weeks.

  Hi All I have a little Pug 106 1.1XN 1993 which when cold starts first time and runs very well however after about 10 mins (ie when its hot) it then starts to cut out, then dies totally and cannot be restarted. I removed one of the plugs when its hot and there was NO spark? This model has a carb and not fuel injection.

  I'm considering a new S-Max and on paper the 2.2 TDCi looks like a good option next to the 2.0 TDCi (very similar running costs but a good bit more peformance). Just wondered if anyone had any real world experience of this engine in the S-Max, good or bad (I've seen the thread about the dodgy mapping - did a fix for this ever emerge?)

  It's a brilliant car, which as done 37,000 miles in the past two years, and which gives me up to 55mpg on a run. However, I'm conscious of the fact that servicing and repairs are expensive, and as I'll be doing much reduced mileage (a run to the supermarket once a week and occasional outings) I'm wondering if it will pay me to sell the car and buy something that will cost me less in the long run and put the sale/purchase balance towards my retirement fund.

  03 model done 35,000 owned for last 2 years never mis fueled.On sunday i noticed engine race a bit for 4-5 secs on depressing clutch showing 1500 revs.Yesterday parked car in town came back twenty mins later would not start.Tried relocking car unlocking and trying again seemed like going to start then just cranked over, then heater light would start to flash not going to start.Returned to car half hour later with mates car to tow home,starts first time no flashing heater light runs perfect.Couple of runs last night everything fine,Started first turn this morning couple of runs no problems parked at friends for ten mins car wont start any suggestions.Car has run perfect for last 2 years not chipped and no after market alarm. please help dont know where to start!!!

  Most lights that were on at the time blew plus a few fuses. The fuses, battery and alternator have been changed, but the car now will not run. The engine turns over, fires and runs for about 3-5 secs then cuts out. When the ignition is turned on you can hear the fuel pump running and after the engine dies the fuel pump still appears to be going.

  He said they all do it, it is weird, but don't be worried!!! This is surely wrong. Nothing in the manual says beware of the sound of running water. I don't expect this kind of fob off from a dealership and need advice from other Clio owners to find out if this is indeed the case or if this salesman just full of BS?

  Starting Problem - Ford Mondeo Ghia X Hatch 1996 (old body) 1.8TD Symptoms a) Cold starts - Engine turns over, starts but runs roughly at ~400 rpm as if only 2 cylinders are firing for a few seconds, then picks up and runs normally. However sometimes the engine cold starts perfectly ie fires on the first turn and runs normally immediately.

  Which petrol engine will have better MPG when driving on the motorway -  between a small engine that runs with 70 mph at 3,500 rpm and a larger one that runs with the same speed  but with 2000 rpm?  Hypothetically, the conditions are the same.  The only difference is the engine.
