Honda Accord UK (2003 - 2008) - 06 2.2 CDTi Diesel tuning 31 Jan 2010 (Forum)
I'm not very clued up on these but I heard you should stay away from those chips you buy as they just increase the fuel mixture which is bad for the cat and other parts. Any advice on whether tuning will make a real difference and also good companies to deal with would be recommended :) Thanks! -
Supermarket petrol, is it rubbish? [Read Only] 3 Jan 2010 (Forum)
I have heard a great many folk who stay far away from supermarket petrol because they believe it is nowhere near as good as Shell or BP, etc. What do you guys think? Would I get better MPG with non-supermarket fuel? I've had my car from new and 99% of the time it gets filled up at Sainsbury's or Morrisons. On my car the filler cap has BP branding on it, and on my friend's Rover 45 there is some Shell branding somewhere in the engine bay. -
Peugeot 307 (2001 - 2007) - 02 2.0 Electrical fault on dash board 31 Dec 2009 (Forum)
Need some help please, My 307 hdi has developed a strange habit of both the rev counter and speedo needles plus the temp and fuel gauge needles returning to start positions whilst driving, then within a few seconds returning back to correct readings. As soon as this happens the red stop light comes on and of course goes off when the needles return to reading correctly. -
Labour government rips off company car drivers 12 Dec 2009 (Forum)
http://www.autocar.co.uk/blogs/anythinggoes/archive/2009/12/10/motorists-mugged-by-the-government.aspx "Anyone who gets their fuel paid for by the company is going to see another big tax increase on the 'benefit in kind' - an extra £182 for a higher-rate earner - with the threat of worse to come in future years. Then there's the decision to end the 10 per cent company car tax rate on cars that produce under 120g/km of CO2. -
`Big Cheese` tyre places, `Spanked` by internet? 8 Dec 2009 (Forum)
Next day, `Big Cheese` company rolls up in a big fitted out van and supplies and fits the tyres. ;) They had to pay fuel to send the van out to me and couldn`t put the usual `environmental disposal` on a bill, cos it was all inclusive including future free puncture repairs with the `Internet tyre Suppliers`. So what`s really the profit margin on these things and are large `tin palace` tyre fitters very much `the old business model`? -
Rover 200 (1995 - 1999) - 97 1.4 unable to start the engine 18 Nov 2009 (Forum)
Hi, I have a Rover 214, 1997. Basically it wont start. I've changed the fuel filter, spark plugs, ht leads, crank sensor and nothing makes any difference. it varies from not starting at all to starting then cutting out after a few seconds. I've had 3 different people look at it. one suggested the ecu, we got a second hand one but made no difference. someone from the garage said a new ecu is no good unless you have immobiliser box and key fob to match. -
Chrysler Voyager (1997 - 2001) - 98 2.5 Non Start 11 Oct 2009 (Forum)
Hi, A friend has a voyager and sometimes it doesnt start, he tells me he used to bang the dash and then sumtimes the the car would normally start, now the car will not start. He has told me the fuel gauge and trip meter sometimes do not work and also that he can hear a relay clicking type sound. I have not seen the car myself yet but am thinking of removing the dials and checking the connetions. -
ex police or ex council???? 17 Aug 2009 (Forum)
i would like an ex bt one as i know how very well they are looked after and they are quite low milage BUT they only have the 85hp diesel, sluggish and noisy. then i saw people are selling ex cop and council 2.3 dual fuel petrol/lpg. my dilema is do i: get an ex plod one that has been lugging mutts around and used as a mobile battering ram with 120,000 on the clock for under 3K? OR do i get an ex council one with 40K on the clock for an extra grand? -
BMW Z4 (2003 - 2009) - Does life get any better? 12 Aug 2009 (Forum)
Hi all, Not much point to this post other than to say that despite all of the Gatsos, high fuel prices and petty law enforcement there are still occasional moments of greatness in this country, today I finally got to take my dad's Z4 for a short (third party insured only, hence careful) drive. -
Renault Clio II (2001 - 2007) - 02 1.1 Intermittant Stalling Problem 5 Aug 2009 (Forum)
(Starts Ok but when you get to end of the forecourt and slow down it stalls -not every time though!). We use branded petrol and the garage have changed the wriring loom and checked all the fuel system. Garage have had the car back twice and spookily the fault is not apparent when they have it so can't suss out the problem. Apparently there are no fault codes showing up. Anyone out there got any ideas please? -
USA flydrive - car choice 24 Jul 2009 (Forum)
Don't know what the difference in mpg would be though. I'm tempted to upgrade, and take a chance on the fuel bills - is that wise? Cheers F -
Ford Mondeo III (2000 - 2007) - Risks of buying high mileage TDCI 21 Jul 2009 (Forum)
However, looking through threads on here and elsewhere, it seems there are lot of complaints about the reliability of these engines even beyond a fairly modest mileage. All the horror stories about injectors, fuel pumps and DMFs are starting to put me off. My question is whether the abundance of these stories is down to a genuine reliability problem with the car or simply because of the large numbers of them on the road. -
Ford Mondeo III (2000 - 2007) - 02 2.0 Diesel non starting 13 May 2009 (Forum)
hi there .. looking for some help (AKA pointing in the right direction) my 02 plate mondeo diesel cut out on me last week and ever since has been a git to start when warm .. cold starting was ok until i fitted a new fuel filter as i was lead to believe that could have been the problem... on refitting the new unit the car will now not start at all ... turns over fine and all electrics seem ok ...(no dash warning lights appearing) i am now begining to wonder if the original engine cut out was a symptom of something more serious... -
Diesel economy from cold 5 May 2009 (Forum)
Me and my better half are still getting used to the joys of a diesel but one interesting finding came up in conversation the other night. To be honest we are trying to outdo each other on fuel economy (average per tank) Where we live is not far from a main motorway that we both use. When I travel on this road there is more traffic so the car spends more time warming up in traffic before motorway speeds are used. -
Renault Megane II (2002 - 2008) - 2002 1.9 dci poor m.p.g. on trip computer 22 Mar 2009 (Forum)
At first the m.p.g was good (41-63). But now my trip computer is only showing (28-49) urban - extra-urban.its had a full service (air, fuel filter ex..). The service light came on at one point ,it turned out to be a faulty glow plug so replaced all 4.I spoke to a mechanic and he said ,because the servive light came on the car maybe running in SAFE MODE and may need resetting.... -

Identifying old car parts! 3 Mar 2009 (Forum)
I've got a box of fuel pumps in the garage from various old cars that were left over from a business. They're pretty much all marked up AC Delco exchange service but checking a few of the numbers they don't come up in google or on ac delco's own site. -
Mercedes Benz - 04 2.1 Engine wont rev 21 Feb 2009 (Forum)
The engine wont rev above 3000 rpm even in neutral The air filter looks new and I've put some injector treatment in the fuel and it hasn't made any difference. The van seems to produce plenty of power at low revs but looses it above 2500 rpm. This equates to about 60-65 mph full-tonk. Not very good. Any ideas where I should be looking next? -
Ford Focus (1998 - 2004) - 99 1.6 Electrical failures 15 Feb 2009 (Forum)
I have a focus that is starting to have a few issues. The fuel gauge takes from between 10 - 30 seconds to register after the engine has started - it used to be instant. The aircon button on the dash has stopped working. The heated rear windscreen button no longer comes on, it flicks briefly and their is a click from the central fuesbox. -
