"Anyone who gets their fuel paid for by the company is going to see another big tax increase on the 'benefit in kind' - an extra £182 for a higher-rate earner - with the threat of worse to come in future years.
Then there's the decision to end the 10 per cent company car tax rate on cars that produce under 120g/km of CO2. From April 2012, cars will have to produce under 100g/km to get the same break. That means an unexpected tax rise for anybody who has just signed a three-year lease on the back of a car's sub-120g/km performance."

We've always been soft targets, in fact a tax on benefit in kind which takes no account of that benefit (i.e. personal usage) sums it up, and IIRC the previous regime (both administrative and taxation) didn't care about the balance of personal versus business use either.
As for "free fuel", my company (with a very large fleet) phased that out 5 years ago as most people opted not to take it any more due to the tax, that particular benefit has been killed off, actually the purpose of the tax IIRC due to the perception that people with free fuel do unnecessary journeys and pay little regard to fuel economy ? C'est la vie.

Fuel card was always a heavily taxed "perk" so much so it became a "non perk".
Looks like I am leaving company car land behind at a good time.

Got another 18 months to do in mine before I can ditch the car, and fuel card.

I see no problem with the tax except they should pre warn people a few years in advance so tat they can change their purchasing decisions accordingly.
The thing that most bothers me regarding tax is that the proposed VED for last April did not start and for many people like myself this would have reduced the amount paid. Shame on you Darling and your bogus green taxes.

Given that the country's now spending £4 for every £3 taken in tax, I think car drivers are going to be paying a lot more over the next few years.
|
I also noticed that our wonderful and extremely popular PM pledged another £1.5Bn to the EU to fight climate change yesterday. I'm sure HMRC are already thinking of ways to increase taxation on the country's car driving climate criminals.

I actually swore at the TV when I saw this.

I actually swore at the TV when I saw this.
I did when they interviewed that woman representing the countries that would benefit who said it wasn't enough... If the money we send them both through Gov and Charites was used correctly they wouldn't be in such a mess... and its not as we have the money to spare at the moment... charity begins at home, and all that.
To keep a motoring note, perhaps they should only be allowed to use small cars, and be banned from making or using large ones...
