• Audi A4 (1995 - 2000) - 98 1.6 Alarm problems 2 May 2009 (Forum)
  I have check the windows, they are all closed, I have checked the footwells, they are all dry, I have replaced the car battery. the alarm goes off for about 30 seconds then stops, the indicators continue to flash, I tried pushing the internal de-activator button, but that didn't do anything. anyone please, any help or ideas?

  Engine has been difficult to start recently but when it does everything runs fine and it will start and stop for the rest of the day but like most of us doesn't like mornings. I have proved fuel to injector pump and battery is fully charged, fuel is getting to cylinders as when it does start there is an environmentally damaging cloud out the back end initially. Engine is definately free to turn and will do on attempting to start - it sounds as if it wants to fire but won't.

  and it's been ok since then. anyone have any thoughts on what may have caused this 'temporary' problem? in case it comes back...... I had to take the battery off to recharge, when it was very cold. could be relevant?? maybe something in engine management s/ware reset? AGS.

  fourthly the little red light which i assume is something to do with alarm is on all the time. fifhtly my radiator fan came on permanantly which drained the battery so i had to remove the fuse when i stopped but now the fan doesnt come on. i have checked all the fuses and checked the wires from the column ... helppppp..

  I have read other similar posts and replies on here and have tried everything (I think), new glow plugs, glow plug relay and all cabling checked and ok, new battery, new starter motor, new fuel filter housing and it is still the same!! Has anyone please got any other suggestions (apart from setting fire to it!). Any help greatly appreciated.

  The alternator warning light comes on when you switch the ignition on & goes off when the engine is running (i.e. just what it should do) but checking it more thoroughly with a voltmete in the cigar socket, the battery voltage gradually drops over several days and (unlike my other car & every other one I?ve tested) doesn?t shoot up to 14V whilst the alternator is running. I?m thinking ?alternator relay? but perhaps there are other possibilities (hopefully even a fallen off wire).

  We now have a constant 14.4 volts and the idling is perfect and light output stable BUT I still see 25v AC at the battery? Any thoughts?

  Seeing as it happened so many times this morning, I was able to check the warning lights, and apart from oil, handbrake and battery (obviously all on until engine starts and car is moving), the fuel light (it has more than half a tank at present) was the only other light. So then any ideas? It runs fine once eventually started, but as it took so long to start this morning, i'm guessing it may not start many more times...

  The ABS light on the dash started flickering about a week ago, not staying on for any determinate time before going off again, sometimes happening once a journey, or every five secs. Then we were out and the Ignition/Battery warning light came on while driving and stayed on. We tried turning all non-essential electrics off but to no avail. I also noticed that the headlights, on dipped beam, seem to get dim/bright as you rev the accelerator.

  The car is completely dry inside and in the boot. a) The Remote C/L doesn't work, I have fitted new batteries into both keys but still nothing. b) The front doors, boot lock and fuel flap work ok from the key however both the rear doors don't lock on the C/L system. I currently am having to use the manual over ride which is a pain.

  the problem ive got is the other night i took my keys out of the ignition and my front wipers carried on and the only way they can stop is for me to take the fuse for it out. ive tried disconnecting the battery but when i reconnect it they just carry on and as i say the only way they stp is if i take the fuse out from below the stearing wheel. ive also tried the fuses under the bonnet with noluck and ive looked under the carpet under the footwell because slomeone said they sometimes get et but they are bone dry.

  Hi My alarm seems to have reprogrammed itself, and the fob does not turn it off anymore. I've fitted new batteries to the fob, with no difference. When I unlock the door of the car with the key, the alarm goes off and only resets when I turn the key in the ignition - A pain for the neighbours at 0430 when I go to work!

  hi hope someone can help.last week i cleaned the engine bay with a power washer,next morning started car as usual,started up for a minute but did not sound good..then cut out,tried again no luck,thought i could smell something burning so disconected battery,no fuses blown but under fuse box there was a few wires making contact with each other,seperated these and taped them up correctly. however i am not getting power to the glow plugs,and the strange thing is the glow plug light on the dash is staying on permentlely but fuel light beside it is going out after a few seconds like the glow plug light should,anyone know where i should start looking for the problem?

  Hi, i've just bought a 2000 Volvo V70 T5 Auto (Late shape one) from auction. When I first had the car, the battery was flat and I jumped start it and it started at first turn. Then on the dashboard, the Brake warning light, Traction control light ,ABS light and ENGINE light stay on and it says "brake system failure" on the trip computer.

  First of all this has been an ongoing problem that seems to be getting worse and Seat claim that nothing is wrong with the car. The problem has been occurring since I changed my battery over. The engine does not turn over without me giving lots of throttle, and when it does eventually turn over it cuts out straight away. I have to keep my foot on the throttle to keep the engine turning over.

  Also I'm not positive about this but does the SE have a 12V cigar lighter type socket too.. wolud be very useful for me.. charging photo equipment batteries etc while travelling. I used to be a mechanic years ago, so although things have changed a lot since I'm confident in doing most work inc electrics properly (using quality connectors if necessary) with proper wiring advice.

  My phone is Bluetooth compatible, and I've used it with Bluetooth headsets, which frankly are useless due to their short battery life. so I'm interested in some of the plug and go systems on the market. I don't want a full installed kit, as I intend to swap it between 2 cars, so the 12V lighter ones are of interest. Does anyone have any experience of these and can they tell me what's out there in terms of manufacturers and models?

  Partner has replaced it with a MINI and its not likely to move any time soon. Its a 1997 P reg with 119,800 miles on the clock. Its been sat since xmas and now the battery is flat and the interior is starting to go mouldy (steering wheel, seat belts, boot etc..). Shall I sell, or how can I look after it until I may need it again. Fingers crossed I wil have a job some distance away and the plan was to use the 214 for a few days a week (400 miles) to save my current daily car from any more deprecication (until my 6months are up and start recieving car allowance) If its left in the garage what can i do to stop it going rotton inside and out and what tips to keep it ok until I use it again??

  Unforunately I haven't got the right equipment otherwise I'd read the fault again myself to double check. Secondly, can the light be reset manually or does it require a code reader? Would leaving the battery off for a few hours sort it? Thanks for your time. -------------- Mike Farrow

  after a month or so, the problem arrised again and eventualy the engine stopped all together, it will turn over but it wont fire. ive checked the fuel line and theres fuel getting as far as the single point injection unit. after there theres nothing at all. could it be the 's.p.i' or something to do with the 'e.c.u'? or could it be the battery? i would be very thankfull if any one could help or advise me on this matter as my legs are realy hurting from having to walk everywhere. thankyou. mufcpeter@hotmail.com
