Engine management light is also on and off intermittant I removed the gear stick gator and managed to retrieve a small piece of white plastic which as obviously broken off from somewhere near the top of the lever.
  • Volkswagen Polo 1.4 FSi 53 Reg - Vw Polo 1.4 FSi cutting out/idling problem 14 Feb 2015 (Forum)
Hello, had this car about 7-8 months now. 2 months ago it started cutting out when when coming to a stop at a junction, the only dash light that would come on was the battery light. Sometimes you could rescue the car by giving it some revs, sometimes now.    Got the problem sorted for a good few weeks (replaced a fuel injector and NOx sensor). However, the problem started again less than two weeks ago.
  • Peugeot 1007 - Peugeot 1007 Dead Locked 17 Sep 2014 (Forum)
Hi. I have a 2005 Peugeot 1007 that is dead locked possibly with a dead battery. The key will not electrically or manually open the doors. I have seen suggestions that you can jack the car up to remove the engine cover and connect jump leads to the starter motor to start it or get the electrics working and open the doors.
  • VW Polo Classic Formel C (1986) - Cutting Out 10 May 2014 (Forum)
He has stripped the Pierburg Carb and renewed the gaskets. Servicing has been done etc. Battery is new.  It starts well and quickly, but I consider it now too danfgerous to drive. Last repair done by  Vw Agents on the Carb took over a month cost £300+ and broke dowmn within two weeks.
  • Peugeot 307 sw 136bhp 06 model - Key Fob stopped working when in ignition. 3 Nov 2013 (Forum)
On turning the key in the ignition an audible alarm sounded and the engine would not start the car. It still worked the remote locking but not in the ignition. I was told the key fob battery might need changing so i changed it, but no different. I have also tried reprogramming the key fob but it is still the same. As luck had it I tried the spare and the car started so I stuck with that one, it doesn't work the central locking but I can live with that.
  • Vauxhall 2.2 SRI ON A 53 PLATE - STARTING ISSUES 3 Nov 2013 (Forum)
All i get is a little clicking noise from the glove box area ( car wont even turn over) and the car and spanner on the dash flashes. i've changed the battery and had a diognostic on it which shows up immobiliser codes. The strange part of this problem is, It does eventually start ( after anything from 10 mins to a hour of trying, depending on the weather) and if the car has been run for a while or been heated enough by the sun the problem goes away untill the car has been left standing for a while or over night and cooled down again.
  • ford focus 2005 1.6 TDCI - crankshaft pulley replaced, came off again.. help! 1 Jul 2013 (Forum)
about 6 weeks ago we replaced the crankshaft pulley, yesterday i drove down the road and heard a clunk and the battery light came on, got the car home again, the crankshaft pulley bolt and belt had come off and were sitting on the underside engine cover thing, put it all back together again and started the engine but noticed the bolt was undoing itself again, so took it apart again, checked everything, all seemed fine, put back on tried to start the engine again and now it won't start, the crankshaft pulley is turning and the bolt does not appear to be undoing (hard to tell with the engine not actually starting) but cannot get it to start now.. my partner has done all work and is flummoxed, any help would be much appreciated, many thanks in advance
  • Mercedes E200 - 1998 - Air conditioning 5 Jun 2013 (Forum)
The non-Mercedes pump has recently been replaced, but the aircon engineer then burnt out the box by Autosystem (assumed to be the control box?)  The aircon engineer had not disconnected the battery when working on the aircon wiring)!  This box is housed in the passenger foot-well.   I need help please either 1. Sourcing a replacement Autosystem control box or 2. Finding someone who can repair said Autosystem control box or 3 .
  • Jaguar X-Type 2005 - Problems Starting 9 Oct 2012 (Forum)
Apparently it will be a major stripping down the car job to replace this but he says he isn't 100% certain its this so I don't want to go down that route unless really necessary some people are suggesting it could be an electrical problem as sometimes its perfectly fine then others nothing. The battery has been tested and is fine. Any suggestions welcome.
  • Skoda Fabia 1.2 70 HP engine - Electrical fault 27 Aug 2012 (Forum)
I called RAC and the service man could not find anything on the diagnostic system, he went through all fuses and connection and still coul not find anything, but the fault is still present.  only way to eleiminate it was to disconnect the battery. Am now awaiting transport to garage. Has anybody experienced a similar scenario? Any idea about the cause? (I suspect the PCB in the car is a ault.
  • Peugeot 306 XT (1998) - Jekyll/Hyde 306 stalling disorder 29 May 2012 (Forum)
The car was recently serviced but I seriously doubt the quality of the workmanship but what I can confirm is that the battery is strong. Thanks in advance!
  • Mercedes E270CDI - Ticking Like Clock ....when engine on and off??? 15 Feb 2012 (Forum)
Last night the car made the same noise when switched off and parked on my drive. I've unplugged the battery to stop it. Could it be related to the car alarm? At times when ticking there is also a muted occasional blast of alarm siren! Would be so grateful for any advice as i don't want to worry my Dad at the moment.
  • Renault Clio I Diesel - What should i sell my Renault Clio 54 reg for? 15 Sep 2011 (Forum)
We were going to get this fixed recently however when we went to drive it to the garage we realised the battery had gone dead as we'd left it to long and we haven't got round to doing anything since (i know this is very silly of us). It doesn't have a valid mot it passed the last one fine though and it's sorn at the mo as were not using it.
  • Renault Clio II - 1999 Renault Clio 1.2 Starting Problems 2 May 2011 (Forum)
I am having a problem where by sometimes it will fire others it won't, it will just turn over. It can take upto six times to start the car and I don't want to kill the battery. I now start my car with my foot fully down on the clutch and accelerator, I am just scared  that I will flood it, yet it seems to work. I have treated it with redex incase there was a block in the fuel lines and it was serviced only 2 months ago with new plugs and filters.

  • Kia Cee'd - Door locks on modern cars 4 Apr 2011 (Forum)
So, I am wondering how many other modern cars have this unhelpful design feature.  As long as the battery is not dead and that there are no electronic gremlins, this is fine, but I'd rather have a system that allows me into the car irrespective of what might be wrong with its electrics.
  • Any - Hybrid cars 27 Jan 2011 (Forum)
Am I right in saying that none of these can be charged from a charging point like a full electric car? If that is the case, then the batteries fitted to the hybrid car are always charged by the engine and therefore by petrol or diesel. This is a much more expensive way of charging than from the mains, especially with the spiralling fuel costs.
  • 2007 Mazda 5 - Electric window switches not working on driver's d 11 Jan 2011 (Forum)
Car has not been used for a couple of days. It was very cold this morning. When i tried to start the car it struggled. It felt like the battery was flat, dashboard lights went off, the engine turned sluggishly, then started. When the engine was started the needles on the speedo and rev dials turned clockwise to read maximum speed/revs then settled back to zero then went back to normal.
  • 95 Ford Escort 55 1.8 (non-turbo) diesel - 95 ford escort 55 lost power and not starting 6 Nov 2010 (Forum)
I pushed it home but couldn't start it. I took off the starter and had it reconditioned. Made no difference. I recharged the battery. The dash lights come on when I turn the key bet there's nothing from the engine when I try to start it. I had put on a new alternator about 2 months ago and everything was fine until last week.
  • Hyundai i10 1.2 comfort - Starting problems on my new car 4 Oct 2010 (Forum)
Have taken the car to the dealer and they say the battery is OK and at 14.2volts. They say, if the problem persists bring it back for another check. This sounds like a nightmare scenario. Its sad that I have to go through this with a new car. What are my options to resolve this problem quickly with my new car without being caught up in this vicious cycle of "back and forth" to the dealer.
