  Ok, it?s another one of those ?What car shall I get now?? times. Company car, to keep for 4 years. I have two small children, one is a babe in arms, the other a toddler. I do about 20k per annum. Space, practicality is important but I do like the way a 3 series drives which is why I have left it on the list?.

  Had engine management light come on did code read came up as p0420,=faulty cat,faulty lamda sensor or faulty wiring,local exhaust co removed exhaust found half the cat missing(internally)nissan want£800 for front cat,got aftermarket for£350 fitted with a mate(mechanic)engine light reset ,came on again,replaced lamda sensor can only get gen nissan£198 fitted another reset,light came on again,same code,had emmissions test done exactly same readings as last two mot"s,had test on lamda sensors on oscilliscope both switching fine,more cost,tried four garages,no one seems to want to know now as its no longer just a bolt on,even my local auto electrics co say they cant help,spent a fortune car now only worth about £2500 max trade in ,HELP ANYONE?

  Anyway, I'm sure this is not so, but just to confirm I do NOT have to take servicing at the local dealer to maintain the warranty do I? so long as the work s done to exact standards and parts by a VAT reg'd garage (or something along those lines). I also did this with the little Micra. I only purchased local (Sunderland) to use the 20% family discount.

• Mazda Mazda 6 (2002 - 2007) - 02 1.8 Fluid leaking from beneath the engine 28 Jun 2009 (Forum)
  m no technician and I can?t see where this leak originates from, but looking at the car from beneath (as well as I can) it?s running off behind the engine from three points; the exhaust, a small silver shield and a threaded boss. Although I assume that somewhere in the murky depths below the bonnet a hose is crying out to be replaced, I would be grateful for other, more knowledgeable opinions.

  If the fuse is ok it would appear that the fact the washer isn't working could be down to 4 things - washer or switch fault, electrical fault, kinked/blocked pipe. I can check the pipe to see if there is a blockage or it?s kinked but even if there was no water in the reservoir I would have expected to hear the washer pump trying to work, but ther is nothing to indiacate that it is trying Before considering the circuit or switch, is there anyway I can manually by pass the normal circuit to test the pump?

  To describe the sound its like a very light rattle, like a nut is shaking or something. Interestingly I used to get a similar sound from my 1998 (s reg) 1.25 fiesta that had done 92k miles - hence why I am a bit worried about this one. Would appreciate any advice. Thanks

  Reading diddy1234's thread about engine development testing got me thinking. Will a manufacturer ever build the perfect car? When looking at the car by car break downs I relealised how many manufacturers including the seemingly perfect Japanese, suffer faults and recalls with seemingly simple components.

  Hi Guys, I have a 1996 Escort 1.8 Turbo Diesel (50,000 miles) that?s really struggling to start in the cold mornings. Basically its taking to the 3rd or 4th attempt to get turning over fully and its very (engine bouncing out the bonnet stuff!) rough until I put in plenty of revs and let it idle for 20 seconds or so.

  Hi, I just bought a 2000 Volkswagen Passat 1.9 S TDI 90. The only problem, I think, is that the seatbelt/airbag light on the dash stays on. Now from the manual I know this light should flash for a few seconds when the key is inserted but it stays on all the time.

  I suppose though, if any more power were available in safe mode, some drivers would not get it fixed and just continue to drive it under reduced power. It just seems to be accepted that it`s `normal` to have cars that drop to a fraction of their normal power when a problem occurs with the emission system, with all the risk that entails in the outer lane of a motorway for example. Is it really true that an engine and systems are not robust enough to default to a stored map giving for example 75% power for a few minutes before dropping further in order to get safely out of harms way?

  I called into the dealer in Darton, Barnsley, S Yorks yesterday to be told 12 Colt CZCs had been shipped into Bristol and silver amongst them. He didnt know where they were bound for though so I doubt if mine will be there as I don't expect my CZC3 to be delivered to the Bury St Edmunds, Suffolk dealer until end of July.

  Anyway, one is getting a healthy 12V, the other shows between 6 and 9 volts ? upon plugging a good bulb the voltage goes down to zero. It?s as if any load on the circuit brings it down. Bulb-failure warning is lit up the whole time. The earths there are sound, I tested it with a new earth lead to a test bulb; the cabling is sound too. Problem is not the bulb, I have swapped in known-good bulbs I need to trace things back to the ?

  In a never-ending quest for fuel consumption and cheap tax, she's been considering the following: 107 1.0 Urban (with a/c), Clio Dci 80 Dynamique (old shape, again with a/c), Fiat Grande Punto 1.3 90 (6spd) Dynamic, Ford Fiesta Zetec-S TDCi and Citroen C3 HDi SX. I know its a varied list, and they all have their pro's and con's, but does anyone have experience of these in respect of higher-mileages? Are any particularly unrefined or uncomfortable on the motorway?

  {needs to be put in the subject header, see 2 separate sticky posts for info} A few days ago, while I was parked, some unspeakable person detached my n/s door mirror so it was hanging by its electrical cable when I returned to the vehicle. I can see the way the mirror is attached to the plastic bit fixed to the door - there is a metal tube, presumably spring-loaded, which acts as a pivot when you want to fold in the mirror and which engages with the fixed part and is locked in place with its cams and lugs.

  An arrangement to pay VED monthly would be useful, but expensive to put in place one assumes. My Xsara Picasso 1.8 perhaps is a s typical family car as one will find but i believe it's emissions of 187 in the new banding will suffer quite a jump. Your comments most welcome Mark W

  Sure, there are short slugs and long slugs, but there you are peeping out of the little breathing hole in the side, with that enormous raked windscreen, raked almost to the horizontal in front of you and you have to do the limbo to get in under it. There`s that long pedestrian friendly snout, out front, just aching for two antennae and eyeballs. Its no wonder people buy four wheel drives to get into a reasonable cabin with a more vertical windscreen and decent windows not reminiscent of the arrow slots in Barnard Castle.

  OK Guys (and girls) This could be an interesting thread. Some clutch changes are so easy - I remember Vauxhalls from the mid 80's, where you removed a cover, slid back the input shaft from the end of the gearbox, and changed your clutch. Engine didn't need to come out. I counted that 'Good' Wouldn't really count most rear wheels drives bad, because apart from P6 Rovers, you could just pull the box off after undoing gear lever, propshaft and support.

  After a good old clean of my cars interior, I discovered a button on the side of my car hidden away by the drivers seat. I know it?s the PIR sensor button, but I pressed it, ever since my alarm has been going off at random times,and other times it sits there quietly not making a peep. I know you can isolate the PIR if some one is in the car, and it arms once you lock with the fob, I have tried in vain to find out if there are ways to alter the sensitivity of the PIR so that it may stop it from randomly going off.
