  • Servicing my car 15 Dec 2004 (Forum)
I can't help thinking I'm just paying for nothing really and i'd be better off just changing the oil every 5k miles - coolant etc is the Ford 'long life' stuff that apparently never needs changing, it had new plugs at the last service, etc etc. Hopefully, when I finish with my car, it will be at least 7-8 years old, and obviously will still be high mileage so will the FFSH even make any difference at resale time? What do you chaps think?
  • Another accident thread 23 Jun 2003 (Forum)
One is an uninsured 40ish woman, the other is an insured 19 year old guy. The woman claims £40 per day for the loss of her car, plus for the damage to her car. There are no claims for personal injury or anything and she is prosecuted for driving without insurance.
  • Is Duratec HE engine reliable? 10 Apr 2003 (Forum)
There must surely now be some that have covered high mileages. Is there anything to check for on these cars other than the items listed in 'car-by-car breakdown'? A final query - does anyone know if it is possible to get a discount for 'no p/ex' off the Ford Direct prices, or are they pretty much 'fixed' like 'car supermarket' prices?
  • Rear window heater damaged on new car 6 Nov 2002 (Forum)
I assume that when they were preparing the car they ripped off the old VW dealer sticker and replaced it with their own sticker, damaging the heater element in the process. I know there used to be a sticker in this position because it left an imprint on the screen which is clearly visible when the screen is misty.
  • Golf brake failure 27 Jan 2002 (Forum)
The car is not 3 years old with 52K miles on the clock so it will go back to the dealers and I hope it will be fixed under warranty. Any backroomers with experience of brake failure on Golfs or other VWs?
  • Renault Laguna II - Renault - You couldn't make it up! 13 Sep 2020 (Forum)
All this in spite of Renault having a policy of supplying spares for vehicles up to 10 years old. Keep in mind that the newest cars affected by this problem are still only 6 years old and you see that it's not a particularly satisfactory situation. Going back to the person I know with such a vehicle, their particular plight is as follows.
  • third letter 19 Oct 2006 (Forum)
I am an old person and was accompanied on the occasion in question by my four-year-old granddaughter. "I would like to point out the further inconvenience of unwittingly using a defective meter which then fails to refund the money inserted.
  • Mazda 2 - Used car advice, been standing 30 Sep 2022 (Forum)
This has been a very slight (carpark) bump and the bumper has not even been cracked. There is no accident damage and the car is 100% HPI and Data checked clear and you are more than welcome to carry out your own Hpi and Data checks  for your own peace of mind.   Overall in my opinion this is a good genuine little car in very good condition for a 9 year old car that's done nearly 95000 miles.
  • Suzuki Vitara 1.4 - All wheel drive 20 Apr 2023 (Forum)
Prices remain high with 3-4 year old models costing around £15k which was what I paid for my 2018 Golf at a year old. Hard to come to terms with especially as her current Mazda 3 is OK albeit a bit gutless on hills.
  • Mercedes-Benz E350 CDi - Gosh it's fast! 29 Feb 2016 (Forum)
In fact just with a slight flex of my big toe I was doing almost 90mph up an incline before I realised how fast I was going. Ooops!  Sound like a big kid rather than a 51 year old....Also remarkably economical for such a large and fast car. I'll take 41mpg anytime.  That's as good as the 899cc turbo triple in the Captur currently waiting patiently in the drive for its next ride.
  • Hyundai Santa Fe 2004 2.7 CDX Petrol Auto - Running a used Santa Fe 2.7 petrol auto 27 Dec 2014 (Forum)
I replaced our old Nissan Terrano r3mR Auto 2.7 Diesel with a used 2004 Santa FE and have had the vehicle for about 18 months now. It was reasonably cheap at £1800 with 6 months tax and had 79,000 miles on the clock.
  • Motoring to the tip - what rubbish? 1 Jun 2009 (Forum)
I was trundling to theTip, this Sunday AM - listening to the rat tat tat of the direct injection diesel and with a truly massive old CRT television in the back. (Of the little Punto car based van- that is) Dang! arrived an hour too soon so rolled up onto the motorway to blow out the cobwebs and grab a coffee. Set off again and WHAM the TV did a double flip to land face down in the load bay - serves it right I thought for failing in the first Summer heat of a yesterday evening.
  • Honda - Anyone own a Civic type S? 4 Oct 2007 (Forum)
Having sold my Defender prior to my extended backpacking holiday in sunny California, I am now looking for a car. During my 5 months of ownership, the 12 year old Defender was faultless, but totally unsuitable for all intended purposes, but I had an itch to own one since my teens and it proved a pain free experience.
  • Mondeo or 9-3? 20 Mar 2006 (Forum)
I'm just about to start a new job and have been sent the company car list. There are just 18 vehicles on it, 12 of which are Ford. This is in stark contrast to my old company who would let you have whatever you liked as long as you were prepared to pay for anything over your allowance.
  • About to buy a new Volvo? 30 Jun 2005 (Forum)
If I had been able to use this scheme above as well I would have got a further £1,283 off (7.5%) and £500 for the metallic paint i.e saving a further £1,783. This would have made a £22,000 car £15,317 new, from a dealer with 3 year warranty, free RAC cover, etc. You will not find a 1 year old Diesel S60 at a dealer for anything like as cheap, and this makes it a terrific bargain for those of you considering a BMW 3, Merc C Class, Audi A4 or even a Volvo S40!
  • EV versus PHEV 5 Oct 2020 (Forum)
As some of you know, I'm building a shortlist, in a fairly unhurried way, of possible replacements next spring for my Audi Q2 which will be three years old next April. (In answer to the reasonable suggestion 'keep the Q2 long-term' - I'm not convinced about the reliabilty of VAG cars over 3 years old, although it's been impeccable so far; and also it would be good to do one's bit for the environment, even if a very small bit.)
  • A quandary, third car or not? 25 May 2018 (Forum)
Help me with a quandary, oh knowledgeable BRers. SWMBO drives a 3 year old Sorento diesel Auto. We own it outright, it's now done 45 k miles. Bought at <2k miles and 6 months old. Her mileage has increased from 15k/yr to now nearer 20k and whilst considering its size and weight the Sorento will do 35-37 mpg on a run, day to day its  nearer 30-32.

  • Peugeot 207 VTI Support - Advice needed on Peugeout 207 VTI Sport 14 Mar 2011 (Forum)
As it only has 5845 miles on the clock I didn't think that I need to take it for a test drive!!! Managed to get the price down to 9181 (with £100 p/x on my old Escort. I was so impressed we put down a deposit of £500, to pay the balance when I pick the car up (cash sale). But it won't be ready for collection for two week (a bit rash I now know).   Over the weekend I been surfing the net and seen loads of post on various sites about problems with Peugeot 207 and horror stories about reliability (especially the de-pollution problem) as well as the appalling after sales service that Peugeot provide.
  • Party Transport Policies 22 Apr 2005 (Forum)
This will make driving through Milton Keynes much more fun. All speed cameras will be abolished and replaced by a new device fitted to your cars which will automatically slow down to the speed limit when driven though an infra-red beam. This will also apply to police cars; their device will be set to 5 mph though built up areas. Traffic wardens will be re-named Dick Turpin because, let?
