Just wondering what the pro and cons are owning a white colour car? I was looking at a car, which is about 10 year old. Intend to own for many years......
  • GordenBennet - clean chassis 13 Aug 2016 (Forum)
GB, I know you're not a lover of rusty underparts on cars. I happened to be browsing a particular thread on SubaruForester.org and couldn't help noticing how clean the guy's car was underneath. Click on thumbnail photos. OK it was only six years old compared to my eleven year old, but he did comment further down the thread that the roads aren't salted in Northern inland Sweden.
  • Audi A4 - Cars coming off lease 11 Mar 2011 (Forum)
In the old days when I had a company car I would change it when a new plate came out, and a whole load of us done that as well. Snob value with a new plate.... So I am now interested in buying a 3 or 4 year old Audi A4 and was expecting to see a fair few coming back from lease or finance companies but I have not seen that many.

  • Peugeot 206CC 1 Jun 2007 (Forum)
The car would be used for short journies, mainly one up, but occasionally Mrs mare and I and a 8 and 6 year old will use it to go to the beach etc. I will probably keep my old Almera for work, and we're replacing the C3 with a Mitsubishis Grandis to get the vital sixth seat.
  • Buying ex-armed forces car - advice? 4 Sep 2005 (Forum)
Ok, seen a used sports hatch, year old and its been owned by a soldier in Germany, its UK supplied and mileage is a little high for a year old but its resonably priced. Serviced in Germany I believe. Is it risky buying ex-armed forces?

  • Stolen when in for warranty work! 3 Sep 2003 (Forum)
Hi, This is an ongoing story, so I won't name any names - yet. My mother bought a one year old Renault Scenic after many years of driving old heaps. Unfortunately, the car had a small problem with the rear wiper which required warranty work at another Renault dealer. So, here's the bad news.

  • The cheapest way to own and run a family car 24 May 2017 (Forum)
An analytical friend disclosed to me ( you know--the way they do!) that the cheapest car ownership is to buy a three/four year old car car, keep it for 8 or so years then sell it for peanuts., He says he stops servicing it after 5 years of his ownerwship,  years ,( apart from MOT,  annual  oil change and anything essential).
  • any - ANPR checks 27 Mar 2011 (Forum)
Just reading about a "police operation" involving dvla and vosa, which saw over 400 vehicles stopped in a couple of weeks  here in west wales and 48 no insurance, 70 no licence, 10 driving under the influence of alcohol and some with no mot, that's more than 25% of cars stopped, Just wondering how many were crushed after 14 days when fines/ved not paid or insurance documents or MOT not produced. That's a lot of cars! As one of those poor people who need a car and pay my insurance/ved/mot etc and keep my car roadworthy, i don't feel sorry for those losing there cars, and apparently there were some 3-4 year old cars in the mix, not exactly old bangers!
  • Vauxhall Vectra B - faulty new parts 4 Jul 2010 (Forum)

  • Honda Legend (2006 - ) - Suggestions for a car to spoil myself with 30 Jul 2009 (Forum)
I've been looking at replacing my sensible family car with a 2 year old (or thereabouts) luxury car - its my version of a 40year old sports car but I'm too sensible for my own good - I've looked at all of the obvious things and am starting to scratch my head - I've got £20k to spend but can push it.
  • Cars for tall families 24 Jul 2009 (Forum)
In most cases my wife (who is 6ft) sits in the passenger seat, but on the odd occasion has to sit behind me - which is not particularly comfortable. Given that our 5 month old baby is already the size of a "normal" 1 year old, the likelihood is that he is also going to be on the lofty side. This has already shown to be a potential problem. The rear facing baby seat is only recommended for use by up to 9 month olds, but he may well be too big for it by then - and we are "not allowed" to put him in a forward facing seat (which would fit) until he's 9 months old....

  • Annual European Breakdown Cover 29 Jun 2006 (Forum)
I have just renewed my annual European Breakdown cover with WorldWide Travel Insurance Services Ltd. , but it's a Green Flag Policy - yes, good old Green Flag and I couldn't find anything wrong with it at £69 - bargain.. £69 is the cost for a whole year (max 45 days any one trip) for a car less than 10 years old.
  • Oxford to Oxford in a Morris Oxford. 26 Jul 2005 (Forum)
On the 5th May 2004, Tim Nicholson and Joanne Bowlt, set off from Oxford, England, to drive to Oxford, New Zealand, in a fifty year old Morris Oxford. Our local news channel (Central News) reported that the round trip has now been completed and the car never once broke down. Not bad for a 50 yr old motor. http://www.oxford2oxford.co.uk/

  • Buying at auction 29 Oct 2002 (Forum)
I am thinking about buying an Ex Daily Rental Ford Focus 1.6/1.8 Zetec at auction next week. I visited a similar auction in September and these cars were selling for between £7750 - £8300 (between 6 months to a year old). Anybody got any idea of what sort of price should I be looking to pay for a six month old Focus Zetec with 10K on the clock?
