Honda/Mercedes - Another which car thread. 30 Aug 2017 (Forum)
The clutch in my 08 civic has packed in and I've been informed it's likely the DMF, including Labour that's around £1000 The car is probably worth a tad over 2k so I've been advised to get rid as it is and buy another car. I've narrowed it down to the following 3 cars; 9th gen civic, accord or a c-class. -
Hyundai Tucson CRTD 2007 - Garage should have advised crank sensor replacemen 4 Oct 2016 (Forum)
Had the clutch and DMF replaced a month ago. The car went in on the back of a recovery vehicle because after filling up with fuel and then a short journey, it would not start. Apparently, at the garage, the mechanic got it started after repeated attempts on the starter and diagnosed that perhaps I had let the fuel get too low. -
Audi A4 1.9 TDI - Rough Idle 14 Jul 2012 (Forum)
There are no faults showing on the diagnostics and the injectors are all working well within spec. They say it may be a DMF issue but that this is unlikely because there are no other symptoms. It does not smoothe out when the clutch is depressed and there are no knocks when pulling away or stopping the engine. They also say it may be the head wiring loom. -
Ford Focus - 52 Ford Focus Tdci intermittent starting 25 Feb 2012 (Forum)
If I then switch the engine off and fire it up again its starts fine, I've recently replaced the glow plugs with Bosch items and replaced the starter motor after a noisy warm start problem. I feared this was the dreaded DMF however the starter motor thankfully fixed this. Also I've noticed when I switch the ignition off the fuel gauge rests ar halfway regardless of how much fuel is in there instead of returning to the stop. -
Newbie, please be gentle with me! 11 Jan 2012 (Forum)
I tend to agree with your general scepticism about modern diesels, if the all round cost is taken into account, I'm not sure they're any cheaper to run than a petrol equivalent, people need to look beyond the mpg figure and maybe include the potential dpf,dmf or turbo replacement cost, just to give themselves a few sleepless nights. The recent post by sirionman was very interesting, I must agree with him that owning an asian car is in my opinion a good choice. -
PSA Diesels - 1.6 or 2.0 more reliable? 23 Nov 2011 (Forum)
I tend to hear more horror stories about the 1.6 than the 2.0. e.g. the sludging up issue - repetitive turbo failures caused by EGRs etc. Both have DMF and DPF but is one generally more troublesome than the other? Opinions and personal experiences welcomed....... -
Musa - Lancia 25 Sep 2011 (Forum)
On the plus side it did prove economical. I wonder if these engines are devoid of all the seemingly bad features of dmf, dpf etc and are closer to the old style of diesels and as such are a better long term bet? -
Vw Golf mk4 150pd - New engine 30 May 2011 (Forum)
Has had all sorts of intermittent judders all of which self -resolved with no faults found on diagnostics. New clutch at 120k and dmf at 130k - was running fine a that time. Engine now sounds gruesome. On my independent mechanic's advice got local dealer to have a look. dealer recommends not running it at all to avoid catastrophic failure. -
'03 focus tdci estate zetec - Focus '03 TDCI non-start 6 Oct 2010 (Forum)
My local garage have no idea and want to start changing random things on spec which i refuse to do. The self test mode shows no stored codes and there were no nasty knocking noises (DMF) prior to this fault occuring, If anyone has any suggestions i would be very grateful, Many thanks Ian -
volkswagen golf tdi 2.0 140 2005 - Clutch pedal intermittently drops 25 Nov 2020 (Forum)
I can just about release the clutch to change gear when this happens. I have a Sachs single plate clutch for 7 years after the DMF gave out.. Usually the signs that this is going to happen are a partial drop of the pedal and when pressing the accelerator in gear while driving causes it to rise up a bit. Previous back street garage claimed to have sorted it about 3 times by replacing master cylinder, messing with linkage etc but I was never entirely convinced. -
Hyundai ix35 - ix35 Stick or twist? 26 Nov 2018 (Forum)
New Mazda 3 is out as will only take 50kg on roof. Any suggestions - do I just run the ix35 into the ground or am I asking for DPF/DMF trouble here in the next few years? Thanks in advance -
2.0 TSI Scirocco 2011 - 4 times, still not fixed warranty running out! 23 Mar 2017 (Forum)
Currently with Harlow VW - Heard the noise, they have replaced an injector and want to give the car back tomorrow. I'm not convinced at all that it can be an injector, i think it's a DMF as the noise goes away once put in gear. My warranty is running out very soon and i am wondering where i stand with an unresolved claim when out of warranty. As i told them about it last year will they still help me? -
BerlingoBerlingo Multispace 1.6Hdi Manual - Rattle/Knock when switching off 3 Nov 2012 (Forum)
Wouldnt have thought that this lightweight cover would cause this in any case. I have a slight concern that it may be DMF related? Could it be the case, even though the fault is not constant? Engine: (cover) Test drive the car. -
Diesel or petrol... can't seem to decide 26 Jan 2012 (Forum)
My thinking was that a diesel would be the answer to my prayers (fuel cost wise) but I'm being scared off Mondeo diesels with stories about the DMF and turbo problems. I have driven a Rover 220 SDi before and never had a problem with the engine components (always electrical). The coolant cap was left off for quite a while and it didn;t miss a beat.
