  • Fog madness 29 Jan 2008 (Forum)
Judging by the cars that overtook me in one 45 minute drive through some horrendous patches of fog, mostly going at twice my speed and with no lights on, the proliferation of automatic transmission, cruise control and automatic headlights leaves drivers of *certain large cars* comatose if not actually brain dead in fog.

Dear John I wish to change my BMW 318i automatic for a new car which I hope to keep for a number of years. My priorities are safety, comfort and of course reliability with reasonably good performance. I prefer an automatic and I have reduced my list to a choice between a Lexus IS200 and a VolvoS60 both 2 litre.

  • Hyundai ioniq - New Car & Automatic Transmission. 18 Mar 2018 (Forum)
Why did I choose the ioniq ?, Mainly for two reasons, I will save some money in tax, and it's an automatic, and of course it seems comfortable. This brings me on to my questions, many people have told me that once you drive an automatic, you will never go back to a manual, I must admit, when my i40 was having its clutch replaced I was given a Mazda 3 automatic for a week, as it was the only car available.

If only they came to the back room rather than asking VAG, sorry, HeyCar. - What small, automatic crossover would you recommend? We're looking to replace my wife's 2009 Nisan Qashqai with a more modern, nearly-new, small SUV automatic and would like to spend up to £15K. My wife only does around 3000 miles per annum.

  • Citroen C3 semi-automatic - Left-foot braking 26 Jan 2013 (Forum)
On this car (semi-automatic with an automated clutch), if you left-foot brake with the throttle open, there is an almighty thud from the transmission, the engine unwinds to idle (c. 1000 rpm) and refuses to answer the throttle pedal for a good 30 seconds.

  • Van with most reliable automatic transmission? 5 Sep 2011 (Forum)
I'm after a van to convert into a camper. Unfortunately it has to be automatic. This may not be entirely accurate, but from the sources I have read thus far. Vw t4's had chocolate box transmissions, the t5's took until 2005 to sort most problems out. 2005-2009 aren't any great shakes in smoothness of changes. the latest with dsg boxes are problematic and require strict maintenance and v expensive to fix.
