  After some investigation what seems to happened is that when I bought the car in Jan 2019 and taxed it with the new keepers slip, paying monthly by direct debit, and then it seems the seller didn’t send off his bit, and I didn’t realise I hadn’t received the new V5C. After 12 months the road tax didn’t renew, which I also didn’t realise. So my car has been untaxed since January 2021. So how should I proceed from here, I assume I’m going to be fined for not being taxed?

  I bought a car from my brother recently, but all the documents including the V5C are still in his name because he only sent the documents to the DVLA earlier today... I have an insurance policy that starts at midnight tonight, and I want to drive immediately so I need to get it taxed before then.

  Any car V5C registered in UK can be scrapped by a thief with a simple declaration of "no V5 available". The scrapyard, even an authorised vehicle dismantler, cannot verify via DVLA or police-related computer links if this is the owner or not, because there are none!

  DVLA infomred me there is a long gap between when the vehicle was last taxed and today (when I'm trying ot tax it!) Do I need to order a new V5C or can I wait until the dealer has posted the old log book off? Why is my vehicle not recognised by DVLA?

  When I went to the dealership and went throught the paperwork and paid the money suddenly they found that the car is manual and I refused to collect it. Got my money back and so on but a week later i got the V5C form for it. So the question is what do i do with this form? I owned the car for 5 minutes and never even touched it but now it looks like i need to transfer it to the dealer?

  What worries me is that the V5C has the name of the previous owner(the guy from the old ad), not the guys that I bought it from. I realise now that I should have checked that before buying, but I didn't. They said that I should text them my name and address and I'll get my V5C in the next 3 days.

  The car will be collected by an auctioneer company in a couple of weeks time.   I have been instructed by the credit card company to send the V5C in full to the auctioneers (not them) and to complete the yellow section 'Selling, transfering, or part exchanging to a motor trader'   It asks for date of sale in that section though (mandatory question) Should I just write today's date?

  We received a V5C (log book) through the post a couple of days ago. But we have not bought or sold a car for several years. We do not know the person who the V5C belongs to. The last registered keeper was nearby, so we went round and asked.

  I went with the cash last night to see the car and it looked and sounded good, but I had a query with the V5C and wanted to check it out before making an expensive mistake. The guy selling the car is not the registered keeper on the V5C and section 9 is missing. He claims that he bought the car 2 months ago from a friend for £1,000 but was unable to keep up with the insurance payments, was very sick and got made redundant and so has decided to sell it!

  There is a whole other tale to tell about collecting the scooter (myself and the solicitor spent an hour looking round his house for the 'ignition' key, couldnt find it, so I had to push it back to my church!), but my main reason for posting was discovering that the scooter has a V5C registration certificate!  I will be registering it in my name and at my address, but wanted to ask if there if any issues I need to be aware of. Luckily I dont need to worry about insurance but is there anything I need to be aware of?

  The first car I bought was an MGB which I'm now ready to sell. When I bought it, I asked the seller to fill in the section 9 part of the V5C (Notification of sale/transfer to the Motor trade) and send it off, and give me the rest of the log book. I've now realised that I can't tax the vehicle as the log book isn't in my name, and am also wondering how I can now sell the car i.e. where does the new owner sign and do I have to sign it somwhere?

  I traded in a Ford Ranger when purchasing the Tundra and the dealer also sent the V5C for the tundra and the details of the Rangers sale from its V5C at the same time. I waited a few weeks and when the notification slip indicating that the Ranger had been sold did not arrive, I contacted the DVLA who stated that the slip had already been sent to me and confirmed that the change of ownership had been recorded.

  I am aware I can visit my nearest VLO and renew there but that is only possible if I apply for a duplicate V5c at the same time at the cost of £25. All this is getting very frustrating and looks as though I shall be having to cough up £25 for a duplicate V5c plus the cost of a 60 mile round journey to the nearest DLO.

  There must be tens of thousands of 'identical' Focus estates out there. The DVLA know more about this car than I do: the V5C lists make / model / variant / version, together with a full set of exhaust emissions (sections V1 > V5). Is it really necessary for me to approach Ford for a covering letter, or is there an easier way of doing this?

  Car has 12k mileage and a main dealer service last September, all checks out on HPI.  Have noticed that the car was first registered in Sept 22, V5C then issued again in Dec 22. DVLA issues one previous owner.  So, effectively 2 owners to now. Doesn't look like it would be a pre-registration, so does this indicate a fleet car or perhaps lease?
