  • Mazda Mazda 6 (2002 - 2007) - 05 2.0 Black smoke/knocking noise 2 Feb 2010 (Forum)
I have owned my Mazda 6 Diesel TS2 (136) for approx 18 months now with 140,000m on the clock. First problem I encountered was the dreaded diesel pump change which I have just finished paying for (£1500 in total) but now I have a new fault and was just trying to find some advise or previous experience on this as I have trawled the internet and still non the wiser (i am a woman though!)
  • Troubled conscience 14 May 2005 (Forum)
Did I wait until the new plastic domestic oil tank arrives? Er, no, I added it to the 40 litres of diesel already in my car's fuel tank. But, I have a feeling that I need to pay some fuel duty on this. Anyone know if there is a precedent for this?
  • Vauxhall Tigra - Help Cleaning Hydraulic Roof Pump Sludge 30 Aug 2024 (Forum)
I have bought a pump from a junkyard which has black sludge in the fluid reservoir. It is metal clamped onto the pump unit itself, cannot be removed for cleaning. The hole for topping up oil is tiny and indented into the bottle making it difficult to empty properly.
  • Make your own bio-fuel 19 May 2006 (Forum)
In todays Daily Telegraph London Property Section was a short article that included how to turn cooking oil into bio-fuel for diesel engines. Sorry there is no link, so I have retyped it. Make your own bio-fuel All you need is a 45 gallon oil drum painted black and with a tap down the side, a large saucepan, a large sieve, some J-cloths and white spirit.
  • "Flushing oil" BMW 325 TD 22 Apr 2004 (Forum)
Hi....... i'm new here and have searched for info and read a few of the oil related threads before launching in and posting a question. I have just purchased a very abused BMW 325 TD 94 (L) 134,000 mls. the oil is very black and has that gritty feel when rubbed between finger and thumb.
  • Ford Mondeo III (2000 - 2007) - 00 2.0 diesel Heater / Engine Issues 16 Dec 2009 (Forum)
Now my temp gauge has started to fluctuate. Possibly because I opened the cooling system reservoir last night and some black oily stuff spilled out a little. Not sure if this is normal??? Could someone make some suggestions? Please note that upon checking my oil with dipstick it was very low so plan on topping this up in a bit.....
  • Oil pressure light - Shogun 10 Jun 2010 (Forum)
I appear to have an oil starvation problem with my 2002 Shogun 3.2 diesel. At first it only occurred if I went straight onto a motorway after a cold start. (I live 2 miles from the motorway, so it was not completely cold).

  • jumpy/smoky F. fiesta, injector leak? 2 Feb 2007 (Forum)
opened up the bonnet, around the right injector there is a lot of dark soot (lost for the correct description, it's not oil, but black stuff on the metal) i've been reading, alot, what i've found so far is that dark smoke is too rich air mixture....i know the air filter is due a change, would that by itself be enough to cause the problems?
  • Vauxhall Corsa C (2000 - 2006) - 02 1.0 Oil and performance problems - HELP! 14 Apr 2008 (Forum)
There is a distinct dip in power when starting off almost to the point of it stalling if you do not keep the revs up and it now sounds like my blinking diesel Vectra. There is no power when driving and it takes a long time to accelarate up to 55-60. I took the rocker cover off for a look and the entire inside was a mess, there was a serious build-up of black clay gunge everywhere including in between the camshafts and it sounds as though the top end of the engine is being starved of oil.
  • Previa Diesel Turbo or not! 24 Jul 2006 (Forum)
This fault is intermittent, I am not using any oil and not pouring black smoke out of the exhaust, even when the fault is occurring. When the fault is not happening the engine pulls fine and revs cleanly throughout the range. This fault does not appear until the engine is up to temperature and during warm up it revs cleanly.

  • Volkswagen - White smoke from oil filler cap and dipstick 20 May 2018 (Forum)
Can someone here please give me detail about what seems to cause smoke from the oil filler cap and/or oil dipstick in VAG TDI engines (1998-present, newer TDI's, the less noisey ones than you get in my VW polo and Mrk3 Golfs). I would like to kno what any type of smoke from oil filler cap and/or dipstick means (white, blue, black etc).
