  • Ford Fiesta - Missing spare key and broken fog light glass 3 Jul 2019 (Forum)
Problems are: - no spare key - front passenger fog light is missing glass (bulb and unit are present) One friend has advised that the dealer should sort these, under Consumer Rights Act the car is not the quality it should be.  And that with the missing glass, the car is not road worthy. If this is the case, how best is it to raise with the dealer and find a resolution?
  • VW Golf 1.6 FSE - Small claims-consuer rights act 2015 advice 13 Jul 2019 (Forum)
Does this affect our case? I don;t think the consumer rights act is actually void in this case? We aren't asking them to reimburse the repairs we've already had done, just for them to exercise our right to repair for the problems that are still present, and have been more or less since we bought the car.

Hi. Just for information. I bought an 06 plate VW Passat 2.0 turbo sports. It looks and drive nice. Except within 1 week I found out the last stamp in...
  • Sale of Goods Act etc etc 3 Jun 2009 (Forum)
There has been a bit of discussion recently in the press about an EU Directive which, in countries where adopted (apparenly most of the rest of Europe) gives consumers 2yrs guarantee on stuff they buy. UK Government has said it's a bit irrelevant here as SOGA etc gives people rights for up to 6 years (5 in Scotland). So, how come this doesn't appear to apply to cars?
  • SEAT Alhambra - Short Term Right to Reject help 8 Jun 2022 (Forum)
Citizens advice advised me that as I paid cash (bank transfer) for the car they do not believe that the dealer can charge me a weekly rental fee, but they will not specify where in the act that this is listed as that constitutes legal advice. I've tried searching through the consumer rights act and cannot find reference to the weekly rental charge, but am worried I am missing something. Looking through forums and google it looks like they can charge a weekly rental fee if I had purchased the car via finance, but as I paid cash this should not apply.
  • The Right to Repair Campaign 31 Jul 2007 (Forum)
This will put main dealers in complete control of much repair work. The independent sector accross the EU has started a 'Right to Repair' campaign to fight this trend. An article on how it can affect consumers is here: http://www.r2rc.co.uk/home/images/r2rc/right%20to%20repair%20under%20threat.pdf The Right to Repair Campaign has a website at: www.r2rc.co.uk I would urge BR's to read this.
  • Consumer law -previous owners not as car ad stated 13 May 2023 (Forum)
This may sound a petty query, but.... We are rejecting the car under 'short term right to reject', as it is not fit for purpose, and was sold in an unsafe condition.  Work promised and supposedly done on the car hasn't happened, and when I asked for an invoice showing the work done at the dealers premises, all I got was: "No, I don't have those"  We want to be correct when quoting consumer law when presenting our full case (which includes misleading statements in ads) and would like to be sure if the above query about previous owners can be added to the case.
  • Monitor returned under warranty damaged in transit 6 Jan 2023 (Forum)
I'm not at all certain of getting anything back from this, but thought I ought to at least explore any options. If anyone has any advice, ideally with references to appropriate bits of consumer rights legislation, then that would be very much appreciated.
  • Insurance by instalments -read the small print 14 Jun 2008 (Forum)
This is approaching the rates for Mafia loan-sharking operations (and the small print also helpfully points out "you have no right to cancel this agreement under the Consumer Credit Act 1974 " ) A quick internet search found him a lower premium and an instalment scheme with a reasonable interest charge but I wonder how many people are innumerate enough to sign up for finance at 65.30%?
  • Volkswagen - Consumer Rights Act 8 Jul 2017 (Forum)
In mid October 2015, I took delivery of a brand new VW, from a distant VW dealer, financed on a  VW Solutions PCP. It was, and still is, intended...
  • I've been had. 30 Jun 2008 (Forum)
Bougt it Nov 07 {typo corrected} from a specialist LPG dealer in {deleted - naming the location is as good as naming/shaming as it wouldn't take a rocket scientist to work out who you're referring to} - do I have any consumer rights left?
  • Future oil prices 13 Mar 2007 (Forum)
If this picture is right, we have consumed a quarter of the 4 trillion barrels of accessible oil and we are only 25 years away from reaching the point we will have consumed half of it." Demand growth from Asia is going to remain strong for 10 to 15 years and supply growth is going to be difficult.

  • ECU repaired and failed 7 days later - any advice 18 Jun 2010 (Forum)
I've been told that the ECU has failed and will almost definitely need a new one. What rights do I have as a consumer?  I paid £300 for the original repair which has failed a week later. Any advice?
  • Mk3 Golf GTI : Broken ECU 9 Mar 2004 (Forum)
I took it back to the formentioned reptutable garage and the problem has now turned out to be a knackered ECU, which they are wanting the best part of £1500 to replace...parts and labour My question is, do I have any rights as a consumer to question/claim the garage as liable for the damage as what WAS an intermittent fault is now a permanent one?
  • Dealer making it difficult for me to get car fixed 3 Jul 2020 (Forum)
They also confirmed that there is a clear Consumer Rights Act situation. I offered to connect the dealer with my local garage for a call to give the technical explanation on what is required and why. However the dealer is now saying I have to get the car to them for the fix.
  • Bought used car last week, engine light on two days ago 5 Apr 2016 (Forum)
I understand that the Consumer Rights Act, as of Oct 2015, gives a right to reject the vehicle within 30 days of purchase for a full refund if it is not fit for purpose or it is not as described or if it is not of satisfactory quality.
  • MG TF - Used car warranty - what are my rights? 16 May 2012 (Forum)
Having carefully checked the wording of their terms & conditions I would have been reluctant to take out a warranty that was so  prejudiced against the consumer.  Does anybody have any advice to offer on my rights?
