  • Driving in Amsterdam 28 Jan 2008 (Forum)
Apparently they have to write down the time immediately they pick up a passenger to monitor their driving hours. Two things struck me: Traffic Police and enforcement are still a priority in Holland (unlike the UK) That?s a hell of a fine! That will take plenty of working off. Dan
  • Drive Safely - Country roads 10 Apr 2007 (Forum)
The roads especially in the past 2 years have been littered with road safety signs simply because everyone from the cities go there in their sports cars and high performance bikes. I was glad to see no reckless driving - this is improving year on year but a message needs to go to the normal everyday drivers to take car on the narrow and twisty roads. Too many drivers dont drive with care on these roads, e.g. they dont break the limits but the real killer literally is going too fast around blind bends.
  • Why is my exhaust black? 28 Mar 2006 (Forum)
Three petrol cars in the family. 1. Subaru Forester XT - does about 10,000 miles a year of mixed driving. 2. Subaru Forester (old shape) - does about 6,000 miles a year of mainly suburban driving, but some motorway work. 3. Suzuki Wagon R+ - does about 4,000 miles per year of suburban driving. So, the Subarus have black exhausts.
  • Truck Driving 1 Dec 2004 (Forum)
Hi to No Do$h, I totally agree with every word you said about wagon driving, i too am also a artic driver (heavy haulage up to 80 tonnes) with a few moans about your average car driver who do not realise what is involved with driving a artic. I think that the car test should have a Lgv realisation module added to the test, so that some car drivers will have half a clue as to positioning on a roundabout when approaching a artic.
  • Left hand drive in UK 24 Nov 2004 (Forum)
Both are standard in France, where admittedly they are more use. However, the other aspect of the equation is whether it is easier/safer to use a left hand drive car in the UK than to use a right hand drive car in France. I have coped with the latter and had no problems for a good many years. Almost always with a passenger whose view of the road ahead was certainly of value at times.
  • Honda CRV 23 Oct 2003 (Forum)
I took a new CRV i-VTEC SE Sport manual for a test drive this morning and was very impressed with the driving experience - nice gearchange, good ride, reasonable steering and, of course, the elevated driving position. All in all it is very easy to drive with lots of space and a good boot.
  • Hiring a car in Spain? Get a Kangoo 15 Jul 2003 (Forum)
Although I have never owned one, I did have one as a hire car once in Spain where they proliferate in agricultural areas, as many people will have noticed. The one I had was a very easygoing car to drive. Anyway left hand drive cars feel more natural to drive, I think. And by the way, when I arrived in Spain all I had done was book and pay for a basic sized car through Hertz rentals. They asked me where I was going and I told them ?
  • Insurance- car not owned 11 Jun 2003 (Forum)
Does it really mean that? If so, it would mean that I could drive another insured car only if I were entitled to on that car?s policy. Also I could go and buy and drive home (via a pre-booked MOT if not taxed) an uninsured car, provided legal ownership was transferred only at the end of the journey.
  • Passat TDI Cam Belt 7 Jun 2003 (Forum)
I had negotiated a good price (£7995) for the car and it is everything that I ever wanted. The test drive was a dream and the engine purred. Unfortunately, I can drive cars, but no nothing at ALL about the mechanics of them. I am aware that cam belt breakage is major although I am hoping that as the car wasn't running at the time, damage may be minimal.
  • Drinking and Driving 30 May 2003 (Forum)
I rang the police and gave them the registration No. but I can\'t understand that in this day and age and with the education we get people still drink and drive putting everyones life in danger. Luckily for me I know where they work so on Monday morning I will pay them a visit and get an apology providing the driver has not been arrested.
  • Pay as you go insurance 15 Mar 2003 (Forum)
Heard a piece on the radio earlier this week about pay as you go insurance, ie the more you drive the more you pay. Was wondering what the BR thought on this. It is a scheme that Norwich Union are considering (I am sure that there was mention of this a few years back) where they install a Black Box to see how far you drive and at what time of the day.
  • Ford Focul 1.6 2009 - noisy whinning sound when reving engine and when d 20 Apr 2025 (Forum)

  • Citroen C3 Picasso - Driving with no freon gas and AC switched off 25 May 2023 (Forum)

  • 37 MPH ? 23 Apr 2022 (Forum)
How do you come up with a max speed of 37 MPH for your self driving car.  Apparently it will be coming into law that you can read a book or watch TV in a self driving car.  Experiment to go live on a single lane of a motorway.  I hope the driver gets to finish the TV programme before something happens.

  • 55 Vivaro 1.9 - Brakes 26 Mar 2016 (Forum)
When driving at no particular time or distance the brakes start to gradually operate on their own. Having pulled over and waited 10 or 15 mins it clears itself. Or sometimes while driving, lifting the peddle slightly with my left foot sometimes clears it.
