  • Another what to buy 5 Dec 2018 (Forum)
I do find I am sitting quite low in the corsa, I have arthritis and I tend to 'roll' out of the car, I did have a look at the Fabia and found the driving position to be higher than the Corsa, Do any members of this forum have any good or bad experiences of either the C3 or the Fabia, or should I be looking at a small SUV, for example the Ingis or S-Cross from Suzuki?

  • Audi A1 - Do I need new rear tyres? 18 May 2018 (Forum)
Hello all I hope you can help me! I have 4 x 215/45R16 90V Bridgestone Turanza T001's on my 2015 Audi A1, which has done just over 22,000 miles. The front tyres are approaching the legal minimum, so I am looking at getting these replaced within the next week or two. The rear tyres, on the other hand, have 5.5 mm of tread left, however, as you can see from the attached photos, ever since I have owned the car (bought used nearly 2 years ago), there have been cracks visible in the grooves.
  • Time for a rethink on junction design? 6 Dec 2017 (Forum)
Having watched a few "UK Bad Drivers" videos recently, a lot of the accidents occur when a driver at a junction turns right across the path of a car (or bike)  s/he hasn't seen in time. It is invariably the fault of the driver turning right, but it always seems to happen straight after the light has gone green. The brains of hassled, tired, under-stress drivers are wired "green for go", and this instinct seems to override the "watch out for oncoming cars" circuit.
  • Audi A6 / A3 - Nearly new cars 16 Aug 2017 (Forum)
My budget is around £25k (will take out a loan @ 2.8% but have the means to settle it if things take a turn for the worse). Now, I can find a fair number of petrol A3's in a good spec for this budget ('66' plate onwards) or I can go the 'luxury' route and plump for an A6 in 3.0 diesel format. http://www.autotrader.co.uk/classified/advert/201708017931430 http://www.autotrader.co.uk/classified/advert/201703183415908 I know they are two very different cars but the A6 seems a lot of car for the money.

  • FIAT Panda 2011 Dynamic Petrol 1.2 manual - Timing Belt /Water pump replacement kit 20 Aug 2016 (Forum)
Does anyone know if there is a genuine Fiat kit for the above including tensioners pump etc or are the kits available separately? If so is there a recomended retail price for the kit(s)? Is there a book time available for both jobs together or do the individual jobs book times not duplicate work? I've had such widely varying costs quoted by Fiat dealers in various locations within 50 miles (from £220 for both Timing Belt and Water pump change to £450 for the Timing belt change alone (parts and labour including VAT) with extra cost for the water pump!
  • Selling old SORNed car: should I tax & insure? 22 May 2016 (Forum)
It's about 15 years old, but runs fine and has MOT until September.  I think it's worth around £500 (it's a 2000 reg 3 litre Jaguar S-Type auto if that makes any difference). I want to sell it to reclaim the space on my drive.  I'm wondering if it's worth spending the money to tax and insure it, or whether I'd be better off selling it as a SORN.
  • Volvo V40 Cross Country 1.6 diesel lux model - Buying and financing used car 24 Jan 2016 (Forum)
Have been offered £750 if I trade Beetle in.  Would plan to take bank loan for £7500  ( can get 3.3% apr with m&s bank repayments £218 X 36months and pay the rest with savings using a credit card to hand over some of deposit so I have the extra security that using a credit offers and paying off the card before I incur any credit card interest charges.
  • Porsche Boxster - Warning lights on dash after fitting a fuse 12 Jan 2016 (Forum)
As I understand it he hasn't started the car - simply turned the ignition to the first position.  Car is a 2006 Boxster S.
  • Volvo V50 (2004 - ) - 2.0d - any good, and a few questions? 11 Oct 2015 (Forum)
We've done the discussion to death, and a diesel it will be. AFAIK, this is the same PSA/Ford engine as used in the new Mondeo / S-Max / Focus, and the Pug 307/407. Is that correct? I know a few people with high mileage examples of these engines (in different cars) that have had no issues at all, so if it is the same engine, I'm happy.
  • MINI cooper 2005 - Grinding sound from 2005 MINI cooper 24 Sep 2015 (Forum)
The performance of my car is not affected, and my gear box shifting and clutch feel fine. I have been to a garage who have replaced my gearbox bearings, O/S drive shaft, and Diff (costing me £800!).  The garage also replaced my gearbox with a reconditioned one (at no extra cost), but still the sound remains. The sound does not occur when the car is out of gear, ONLY when under load.
  • Citroen Jumpy, Peugeot Despatch, Fiat Scudo - What is a reasonable mileage for a van based MPV? 18 Apr 2015 (Forum)
Hello, Well as the Dacia plan did not work (part self employed and new rules for financing) we are now saving up for a used MPV. Seeing plenty of the S-Max/5008/Mazda 5 around (all in the same ball park pricewise but most going over 100,000 miles) but maybe considering a larger van based MPV for business use as well as a family bus. Had a Jumpy as an interim emergency hire car last year and was not too bad really, pretty car like just brand new and everything was a little stiff and BIG!
  • Used car depreciation. 4 Feb 2015 (Forum)
The problem with the second option is that I don't know if it is a viable one or not. What price will the used updated Mazda 3's be in about a year's time. If it's much more than £10,000 then I may as well just try to get a decent car now.  So my question is how much do you think used 2014 Mazda 3s will be in about a year's time bearing in mind the cheapest now are around £14,000 with very low mileage?
  • Mazda 2 2006/07 1.4 Petrol - Any good? 25 Jan 2015 (Forum)
According to HJ review it's an OK car - nothing stunning but better than the Ford Fiesta on which it shares a number of components and the chassis. Question - any owners out there care to comment on Mazda 2's from 2006/07 in 1.4 petrol guise? I would prefer an automatic but HJ says they can go wrong and manual is a better option.  Any views on this? Not looking to replace Polo for a few months so no rush and would hope prices have dropped to £2.5k when I eventually take the plunge.
  • Golf or Civic.. 20 Nov 2014 (Forum)
Excellent condition at £5k - being sold by a mate who i know has looked after it. ** The other is a Honda Civic Type-S GT 2.2 Diesel - 82k miles, again, excellent condition @ £4700 - though it's a private sale. Can anyone offer any advice between the two? I don't do too many miles per year (around 8k) so wasn't really looking at a diesel, but they're both very good deals so looking to hopefully go with one of them.

  • Jeep Cherokee CRD KJ - ABS Light and brakelight on dash 10 Jul 2014 (Forum)
Hi , I am trying to fix the ABS on the above jeep , front bearing replaced including abs sensor as it was s/h it was better to include the abs this way and was guaranteed and resolved the bearing issue it had . The sensor has a resistance of .624 ohms and the rear sensor on the diff is also .625 or as near, this I thought was needing replaced as there is no speedo reading .
  • A-M Spring Concours @ Ragley Hall 20 May 2014 (Forum)
What a delight to wander amongst so many desirable examples in glorious conditions, etc., etc., apart from that new(ish) Rapide S! The Works Team had one on display on their pitch. What an ugly mutt that is from the outside, although the interior is simply sublime. Was it modelled entirely on the Panamera? Certainly looks that way.
