  • Dynamic indicators 17 Mar 2024 (Forum)
I am assuming Audi were the first manufacturer to use these in the uk but I may be wrong. Also, I am aware that there were similar indicators and brake lights used in the US decades ago but these used filament lamps. I am really referring to the current LED type.
  • Illegal E bikes 9 Oct 2023 (Forum)
Cardiff has had a recent purge on e-bikes using its pedestrian shopping centre,  These are e-bikes with throttles capable of exceeding the speed limit imposed by law.  They confiscated 17 bikes many with faulty brakes worth some £22k. This was part of an operation whereby 1300 users were spoken to  70% were riding illegally. If this is just one small city the countrywide problem must be considerable and no news yet on a policy by Gov on e-bikes and scooters.
  • n/a - Tyre wear pollution 1,000 times worse than exhaust 8 Jun 2023 (Forum)
Pollution from tyre wear can be 1,000 times worse than what comes out of a car’s exhaust, Emissions Analytics has found. Harmful particle matter from tyres – and also brakes – is a very serious and growing environmental problem, one that is being exacerbated by the increasing popularity of large, heavy vehicles such as SUVs, and growing demand for electric vehicles, which are heavier than standard cars because of their batteries.
  • The early days of motor racing 26 Dec 2022 (Forum)
Usually run over very long distances compared to most modern motor racing, there is one point where the commentator mentions an unusually short 23 mile lap!. Tyres narrower than on some current bicycles, braking would be primitive at best, ineffectual, and quite possibly only on the rear wheels!.
  • Motoring quirks and bloopers in films 31 Oct 2021 (Forum)
Recently watched 'How it ends' (it's on netflix) and a relatively modern saloon screeches along a tarmac bridge when he jams on the brakes...  Or the big american v8s in Narcos Mexico that have the vehicle sound dubbed over making them sound like 4 pot diesels from the late 90s, seriously did the person doing that know nothing?!
  • Vauxhall Astra - 5th gear questio 25 Jan 2021 (Forum)
Apologise if in wrong thread Car:Vauxhall Astra 2010 (diesel, 6 gears) Ive just bought the car and noticed when i put it into 5th and let the speed decline on its own or if i brake and end up at 30mph the car will try and speed its self back up to 40 without me touching the pedals. Is this normal? Every other gear seems to work fine, cruise controll is off 100% the car just trys to speed its self up.
  • Scrappage schemes and Bangernomics 23 Sep 2018 (Forum)
We have a 16 year old car that only does a couple of thousand miles a year but is very handy for runiing to the tip and carting grubby grandchildren about.  It is one owner and never failed an MoT but has just cost me £500 for brakes and an electrical sensor too. On the one hand that is probably not too bad for a year's motoring but I feel the end may be nigh! Does anyone in the trade know of a likely return of scrappage schemes?
  • Nissan Micra K12 2004 - Strange Indicator fault 18 Apr 2016 (Forum)
I have a 04 Nissan Micra and have noticed that my right indicator quite often blinks faster than normal, this especially happens whilst using the brake at the same time. Also, when I am entering a motorway and building up speed the car starts to loose power when I switch on the right indicator on - it goes back to normal once I turn the indicator off.
  • Ford Mondeo ST220 - Idle / tick over speed 28 Jun 2015 (Forum)
Car continues to run @ this tick over rate as if on cruise control so for example, you cannot do 30 mph in 6th gear without constant braking. Temporary solution is to pull over and switch off via the key, re-start and the idle / tick over speed immediately returns to normal @ 800 revs. Any ideas on what's causing this please?
  • Jaguar XJ8 - ECM change 11 Jun 2015 (Forum)
Hi, My 2000 (W) Jaguar XJ8 3.2 won't come out of Park unless manually operated and then the brake lights do not work. I've replaced the switch on the pedal cluster with a brand new unit and also the rotary switch on the gearbox but the problem still exists. If I disconnect the battery for 24 hours or more, the problem seems to fix itself but soon returns leading me to think I have an ECM problem.

  • Renault scenic 3 - Air filter 24 Jan 2015 (Forum)
To remove air filter you must remove the brake flued top up,container not compleatly but just the bolts holding it on, then the seal from one side to other, the thing that it's bolted to actually pulls forwards and out then you can access the air filter box easy.
  • Ford focus hatchback 2001 - Rear tailgate wiring loom 16 Jun 2014 (Forum)
Hi I have recently found that the rear. Centre brake light, the heated rear windscreen and the boot release catch which is pressed from the dashboard have all stopped working. Upon inspection after opening the tailgate I discovered the wiring loom had some broken wires,my question is it an easy job to cut back the exposed wires and join up again also will I have to disconnect the battery before tackling the job.
  • Volvo S70/V70 (1996 - 2000) - 98 2.5 ABS Pedal judder. 30 May 2014 (Forum)
My V70 Cross Country All Wheel Drive is playing up, when driving a buzzing ABS noise comes from the pedal area without even touching it, if you brake lightly the ABS activates every time and makes the pedal vibrate and click as if ABS is needed, which it is not! Have fitted two ABS control modules (six plug type ABS/TRAC units) and cleared any fault codes to no avail, still does it!!!
  • Suzuki Ignis Sport - Ordering car parts on the Internet 5 Mar 2014 (Forum)
My 10 y-old car is being MOTed tomorrow and I may need to order new discs & brake pads. Last time they needed replacing, the garage (dealer) charged me a fortune for them and, since I may not keep the car very long (even if it passes), I 'd like to order them on the Net, I'm sure they'd be much cheaper.
  • Rear light in Ford Focus 14 Feb 2013 (Forum)
Hello, I have a  1.6 2003  Ford Focus and the rear light is not working, the brake light does work. I took the bulb out and took it to a car spares shop, they tested the bulb and both filaments work. I checked inside the bulb housing and it is completely dry, I made sure the connections on the buld and where it connects to are clean, dry and corrosion free.
  • Traffic Light Cameras 23 Aug 2012 (Forum)
Hi, I'm pretty sure I got zapped tonight by a traffic light camera. It was one of those split second decisions as to whether to brake firmly or to carry on. On this occasion, I obviously made the wrong decision. I wasn't over the speed limit, btw, and I had already slowed down in anticipation of lights, but at the time it just seemed more sensible to go through rather than stop.
  • EU tyre labelling regulations 3 Jul 2012 (Forum)

I've cleaned the iacv which seemed to make matters slightly worse I can't hear any hissing from the manifold area may check the tps when it's a bit dryer cheers
  • Skoda Octavia 2010 1.6 diesel - Removing DPF 28 Dec 2011 (Forum)
It is now beginning to have a rumbling gearbox, but it has always had a tendency to have a stutter on the power delivery, and tends to lose power slightly intermittently (as if the brakes have been lightly applied), and fuel consumption has gradually dropped. I was thinking of removing the DPF and turning off the pressure sensors etc. Anyone any experience of this, and the supply of a DPF "can" so I can refit the original if necessary.
