Juggernauts & now Road Trains ? 11 Sep 2005 (Forum)
If you happen to drive a low powered car with poor acceleration, the overtaking times are going to be doubled and could lead to even more accidents. As fuel prices rise to their unacceptable level, hauliers will push for their introduction to reduce their unit costs, but it ends up with additional taxation on the already over taxed motorist. -
Ultrasonic Petrol Injector cleaning 8 Sep 2005 (Forum)
Certainly I remember carburettors used to get gummed up with dirt and petrol residues. Dirt should no longer be a problem with good quality fuel filters, but do injectors still suffer from residue build up? My car has done almost 140k miles now and I've recently cleaned out the turbo/intercooler/intake system which has made it run a lot better. -
Astra 1.7dti running very badly 1 Sep 2005 (Forum)
The only thing that clears it is to either dip the clutch and roll, or accellerate out of it. Adding to this, overall accelleration is poor and fuel consumption is well up - no black smoke though. Timing belt changed recently, but i know from experience that one tooth out on the pump will really show itself!. Would this be the case if the valve timing was out?????.. -

306 1.4 petrol won't start when warm 19 Aug 2005 (Forum)
There is a petrol smell when turning over, while it refuses to start. First instinct is immobiliser, but would the ECU continue to pump fuel into the engine? Second thought therefore is a sticky ignition relay, but why would this be temperature related? Third thought is cold-start-valve/regulator-thingy, but why would it suddenly work when ignition turned back off and on? -
ford focus instrument panel going awol 10 Aug 2005 (Forum)
The problem i am having is that i could be sitting there doing 40 when all of a sudden the rev counter, speedo, fuel gage, temp gage start going mad ie going from 0-140 empty and full. there is no difference in wat the engine is going sounds fine. I was told that there could be a serge in power coming from the alternator which i have changed and this has made no difference wat so ever. is there anyone else who has had this problem and if so how did u correct this. thanks neil. -
honda immobiliser problem 26 Jul 2005 (Forum)
Has anyone had any experience of these? I believe the immob. is wired into the ignition, alternator and fuel pump. How difficult is it to overide the immob? It looks as if you can renew the immob. socket if only they made the spares still. I saw a similar arrangement on a VW Golf. Cheers.Any help appreciated. -
Citroen ZX Diesel Injectors 25 May 2005 (Forum)
I have tried some Millers injector cleaner, but this hasn't sorted the problem out. The car has been recently serviced, and has had all the usual items replaced (fuel filter, oil filter) etc. I suspect the injectors are due for changing - I have read that they usually need changing between 60,000 and 80,000 miles. My car has done about 93k. Does this sound like an injector problem? -
BMW 330D - rattle 24 Apr 2005 (Forum)
Hi, I've got a 330D SE saloon. 5 months old - 14,000 miles - :)) It really is the perfect combination of power, torque and fuel economy......... From brand new the car has suffered from a slight metallic rattling noise at tickover - you can only just hear it inside the car - but is quite audible outside the car. Increasing the throttle even a tad makes the noise go away. -
98 Ford Fiesta MK4 1.3 Encore 19 Apr 2005 (Forum)
At the moment I have two mains problems with it. 1)The engine dies at full revs when driving and I have to lift off slightly to get power back. Does anyone know what this is - a fuel problem or HT lead? 2) It needs a new clutch. I have got the new plates for it but have realised that this is beyond my capability! How much will I be looking at roughly to have this job done at a local garage ? -
Vauxhall Corsa 96 1.4i engine fault lamp 30 Mar 2005 (Forum)
Hi all, About 2 weeks ago my (fairly) reliable Corsa started to display the fault lamp on the dash. The code reads 28 which is 'Fuel pump relay contact problem.' I went to the dealer and picked up a new relay, and replaced the old one. The fault light went away, but I experienced slightly jerky deceleration and cruising around 2k/rpm. -
Automatic Choke Problems (Fiesta) 23 Mar 2005 (Forum)
Whilst the car starts OK, as soon as you put any stress on the engine it really dies, hardly accelerates until eventually enough fuel gets through and off she goes. There's clearly a number of things that it could be, could people outline for me what they might be and how easily they can be resolved, Thanks in advance for all your help, John -
Company Car Tax Guide 8 Mar 2005 (Forum)
I havent had a company car since the law was changed basing it on price & co2. I am expecting to cover 20,000 miles per year and will also have a fuel card. Question ; I need to do my homework to ensure the extra tax I will pay will still be less than the reidual value loss and other costs associated with owning my own car. Does anyone know of any good web sites or guides I can use to calculate the best options based on my personal circumstances? -
Rover 416 Tourer 26 Feb 2005 (Forum)
Normally I would suspect a collapsed catalyst causing running problems but the car starts, idles and runs as it did when it was new albeit apart from the bad fuel consumption. Just wondering if anyone out there with a Rover 416 has experienced the same problems and if so what has caused the drop in consumption? Thanks in advance Andrew -
Turning the screw on Insurance 24 Feb 2005 (Forum)
If they want it to be 100 per cent foolproof why not implement third party State Insurance through a levy on fuel? I believe that was done by one of the states in Oz. Note that there is an EMail address to vent your dislike????? DVD -
Peugeot 106 Diesel starting problem 1 Jan 2005 (Forum)
The glow plugs were all replaced about 3 months ago, and the battery is nearly new, so I don't think these can be the problem. I have checked for air in the fuel lines, so this is not the problem either - help please! also, can anyone recommend a good diesel specialist in the Reading/Berkshire area? I don't know an awful lot about Diesel engines and don't want to get ripped off. -
200k Mondeo 19 Nov 2004 (Forum)
It apparently has Full srvice history, and the cambelt was changed at 190k. Firstly, would a Mondeo be a suitable replacement for my Focus, I realise the fuel costs would be higher, but things like heated mirrors and a heated screen would be nice at 6.30 on a Winter's morning. Also, any opinions on a Mondeo with this mileage - will it be due for expensive repairs or imminent failures? -
More Pierburg 2E2 woes 16 Nov 2004 (Forum)
Well unsurprisingly it has shedloads of problems, the most serious being a blocked idle jet on the dreaded pierburg 2E2 carb (I think). It won't idle at all, needs plenty of throttle to keep it running. I have replaced the fuel and air filter but I went for an inspection of the carb and it was nasty dirty in there. What is the best way to go about troubleshooting/solving this problem? Please don't call Weber on me yet - not ready to pony up £160+VAT on one! -
Poor benighted motorists! 7 Nov 2004 (Forum)
"British drivers suffer the most congested roads and the highest tax burdens in Europe, says a report out today. ...while drivers pay £42billion in tax, only £6.7billion was spent on the roads last year. On fuel alone UK drivers pay the highest tax rate in Europe - more than 75p in every pound spent on unleaded. ...'We pay the highest taxes yet have the most congested roads. The Department of Transport said it had given local authorities powers to ease congestion by introducing pay-as-you-drive charges." -
Daewoo Matiz ignition problems 27 Oct 2004 (Forum)
I took off the distributor cap and rotor arm (eventually) they are in pretty bad condition, i cleaned up the arm and cap, put them back and tried it again, but still wont start. I have checked that fuel is comong through, and it is. There is a spark, but its a weak one, and intermitant, looking on other forums, it could be a magnetic sensor that sends a signal to the coil?????????? This could also be a problem.
