renault clio 1.2 2002 petrol 80k - Clio Intermittently cutting out and not starting 18 Aug 2011 (Forum)
Its now picking and choosing when its going to fire, if at all and even more worryingly decides to cut out (as if its stalled) whilst driving. I must admit i know nothing about cars apart from never to buy a clio or renault of any sort ever again. As i mentioned, my garage is fab but i get the impression that even they're a bit baffled, especially as when they just came to look at it it worked fine. They recently came back to see the car and have now witnessed the fault. -
Renault Clio - Car rental company charging for damage 30 Jun 2010 (Forum)
There is a photocopy of my receipt with Hertz and my signature and the print of my credit card There is a close-up picture of the registration plate of the car which is the same as the one on the receipt There is a close up of a polished bonnet of a renault car but once again you cannot see the registration number At no point is the scratch of the car shown on the car with the number plate in evidence! I returned the car at the right time in the right place on the 5th June 2010 however the Hertz Incident Report Form is dated 11th June 2010 but there is no date, time, location on the incident report form and no signature of renter .They have also written NONE where question 8 LIABILITY Do you consider yourself to blame? -
Renault Clio 1 Petrol (1991 - 1998) - 1997 1.2 high idle and rough 31 Dec 2008 (Forum)
When reseting the ECU it last for 5-10 minutes of driving before idleing too high. I took it to Renault to get a diagnostic check - no faults on the ECU but cos it was idleing high they disconnected the battery to reset it and that fixed it. Of course by the time I got home it was idleing too high again! -
Renault Espace (1997 - 2002) - 1999 2.2 diesel dealer/brakes problem 6 Feb 2008 (Forum)
hello all, i am writing this for a work colleague who is having this problem with his local renault dealer / brakes, on his car so please bear with me if i get a few details wrong, he has asked me to point out that he is not out to rip-off the dealer, more so he wants to avoid being ripped off by the dealer for what could be un-neccessary work, his wife had a minor fender-bender (ran into back of another car) resulting in some minor insurance claim work being undertaken at his local dealrership. as far as i can remember the work was around the bumper and cooling fan bearing, but i'm not 100% positive on that. -
my 'what car'question 7 Oct 2002 (Forum)
The financially-challenged thing means that I also have to take other factors into consideration – first obviously this Astra will demand more road tax than my Renault, but has anyone any idea what the difference in insurance might be? Have taken a few online quotes, and at the moment they seem a lot higher than I’ve been paying so far on my Renault. I know that the fact that it’s diesel cuts some costs – at least I think so, am currently conducting a completely non-scientific experiment to see how much the fuel-cost difference is between my 1.1 petrol, and my 1.7 diesel – at the moment they seem to be vying neck-and-neck. -
Looking for a new car suitable for 3 kids 7 Apr 2021 (Forum)
I currently drive a 2015 Renault Clio which I bought used in 2017, and it was fine for when we were a family of 4 (2 kids), but now we have a 3rd on the way and the Clio is way too cramped I’m going to admit I know very little about cars, so all I can say really is that I’d like a nice spacious 5 seater car for about 10k (used, on finance). -
My indicators and windscreen wipers start on their own - what's the issue? 2 Oct 2017 (Ask HJ)
I have a Renault Clio MkII. The indicators and windscreen wipers start on their own. They also go at different speeds than they should. -
The rise of the b****y ute/pick-up truck 7 Nov 2016 (Forum)
The stupidly named Fullback (nearly as bad as Defender), essentially a Mitsubishi L300, will be joined by Renault's version of the Nissan Navara. Then Mercedes introduce their posh version, basically a pimped up, plush Nissan. The rise of the leviathan SUV is bad enough. Now we have to endure more vehicles bigger than the owners need that they're usually incapable of driving properly/responsibly. -
Any - Electrical faults in cars rise sharply in 5 years 18 Mar 2014 (Forum)
Interesting survey from yesterday's Telegraph about how electrical problems in cars of 3+ years old have more than doubled in the last 5 years. Renault lived up to the bar-room wisdom that 'French cars are terrible for electrics' by being the least reliable manufacturer in terms of electrical problems. However, Citroens proved more reliable than teutonic titans Audi, Mercedes and Porsche, and was as reliable as BMW. -

Lorry driver shunting car does not notice Clio 2 Jun 2010 (Forum)
I just checked Sky News and there is an amazing (and horrifying) story of a Lorry driver driving along the A1m with a Renault Clio stuck across the front. Aparently he didn't even notice. I understand that the Lorry would have cruise control but how can the lorry driver not notice ? I am asking as I cannot understand how it can happen and not be noticed. -
Larger family car needed 1 Jan 2010 (Forum)
My wife and myself are looking at getting a bigger car for our expanding brood, we have an eleven year old, a two year old and another on the way. Our Renault Clio is going to be too small. What i'd really like is a 5 seater but with 3 proper sized seats in the back, most 5 seaters have a pretty small middle seat in the back. Trying to avoid going down the big 7 seater route as we want to keep costs down and have about £10K to spend. -

'Born to run' at 125 mph 29 Apr 2008 (Forum)
A DRIVER (aged 21, but unamed) watched a DVD of rock star Bruce Springsteen while doing 125mph on a motorway. The Boss?s hit Born to Run was playing when cops stopped the Renault Clio in the fast lane near Tours, western France. An officer said: "He said he had a long drive to Paris and was bored." The motorist was bailed, to face a possible £500 (or maybe euro?) fine and year? -
Car reviews - how useful? 6 Apr 2008 (Forum)
In this morning's Telegraph there's a review of the new Renault Grand Modus. As is often the case the writer goes on for more than half the article about something else, in this case the consumption of diesels against the Prius. When he gets to the car he likes it but doesn't say what mpg he got. -

Ford Focus (1998 - 2004) - Fitting external music source to a Ford CD Changer 3 Dec 2007 (Forum)
Thanks slt and moved over from Discussion otherwise it'll be "you should have bought a Peugeot/BMW/Renault" rather than the help you need ! :-) -
Supermini - which one? 30 Oct 2007 (Forum)
I want something reliable, slightly sexy looking and fun to drive. Have a budget of around 8 - 9k. Like the look of the Renault Clio and the Peugeot 207 but have heard nightmare stories regarding French reliability. Is this true? What about Fiat? Have been advised to stick to a Yaris or something but not sure how inspiring they are to drive. -
Who makes the best small diesel engine? 12 May 2007 (Forum)
Question is who makes the best small diesel engine in terms of longevity? My initial thoughts are either a 1.4Hdi Citroen C3 or a 1.5Dci Renault Clio or Megane. How many miles can I expect these engines to last for? Thanks
