Renault Laguna engine problem 26 Jun 2005 (Forum)
The blue lagoona is knackered again. It sounds like it running on 3 cylinders. It has a lack of power but no engine management light. It is driveable and can reach 70 if your bones can take the vibration. Could it be one of the coils gone? It makes sense except that I am sure that I read a post saying that one went on a Megane and it was undriveable. -
Rover 75 - to buy or not to buy? 16 Jun 2005 (Forum)
My company has offered me the chance to buy a Rover 75 CDT Classic, first registered 06/05/04 (04 reg). It was run by a recently retired director, and was given to me when he left. It has 12k on the clock, and appears to hev been well looked after. If I don't buy it I was told it would be sold back to the supplying dealer. -

97 or 95? 10 Jun 2005 (Forum)
Quick dullard question! I get an average of 18mpg out of the Jag using 95 octane petrol from Shell usually. Will running it on Super give me better mpg? I'm after the most cost-effective solution, so is it worth the extra 6ish pence a litre (bearing in mind it swallows about 75 litres a time...) I'm aware of the issues about supermarket vs brand petrol, but I'm after what works out cheapest via any route. -
Petrol proof tape 21 May 2005 (Forum)
I only noticed the petrol smell this morning (had to abandon trip to supermarket and go back home and get another car :-) ) and I can see the pipes around the petrol pump are cracked nastily and the one after the pump has wet marks on the paint below so it must be coming out there when the engine is running. teabelly -

volvo 740 warning lamps 27 Apr 2005 (Forum)
my trusty old volvoil has grown a warning light on the dash. Its a green triangle with what looks like an upside down letter y inside.Everything seems to run ok (for the moment !!)but I'm geeting twitchy wondering what it is. I've checked my Haynes manual, I've tried on the net and I dont have the original owners handbook so I'm stumped....any volvo genius out there any idea what it could be warning me about before something falls off....eeekkkk. -
VW Golf Mk2 1.6 Auto choke(1988) 23 Apr 2005 (Forum)
I've replaced "O" ring in inlet manifold (completely knackered)and autochoke does now get hot when running. I suspect wax stat and/or Pull down lever! Any advice on how to determine the more likely ? or indeed any other possibilities ? Any decent sites on setting of auto choke ? Haynes manual not generally very useful!! -
Digital odometers 18 Apr 2005 (Forum)
All four wheels were on the ground and I was wondering if it had a digital odometer, would it still clock up the mileage if the electrics were turned off? If so, then surely when it comes to selling said car, although the running gear will have covered the accumulated mileage, the engine wouldn't have. -
Megane kangarooring 17 Mar 2005 (Forum)
I recently changed the fuel filter which fixed a slightly different power delivery problem and it had been running perfectly since then. I'm beginning to suspect the cat may have gone, leaving me with a restricted exhaust. Does this sound feasible given the symptoms? I'm try to sell the thing at the moment, and this happens - typical!! -
Dodgy AM radio reception in Volvo S80 10 Feb 2005 (Forum)
Hi I recently bought a 2nd hand volvo S80 which is fine apart from the radio which although produces great FM reception has very intermittent AM reception (which is annoying as I listen to Talksport). When the car hasn't been used for a while the output is fine but after having the engine running for a while the output degrades into a sea of static noises completely drowning out the station. Anyone got any ideas what could be causing this? Thanks -
Graduate transport 6 Feb 2005 (Forum)
He will need a car for making travelling a short distance to a from work daily and for making 50-60 mile motorway journeys at weekends. He wants a car which is resonably cheap to run but has good performance and high specification, he is looking at mid sized hatch backs and wants to spend around £10k. I think a new Seat Ibiza 1.9tdi se would be good with high levels of kit as standard. -
Help Pug 306 Letting In Water 1 Feb 2005 (Forum)
Not so much a technical question but i have run out of ideas. The passenger door on our Peugeot 306 is letting in water, normally you after a bit of rain you can see that the carpet is wet, today my wife called in to work to show me that there was at least an inch of water sloshing about in the passenger side footwell. -
Focus 1.8 cold starting problem 25 Jan 2005 (Forum)
It's almost like the cold start enrichment isn't coming in properly, once it's caught and stutered for a second or so on the point of stalling it then runs perfectly, and starts fine again later in the day. Anybody got any ideas ? -
1st service question 24 Jan 2005 (Forum)
My Jazz is going in for its first service on Tuesday. In the FAQs on running in a new car it recommends having the transmission oil changed after the first year. A few questions on this... Is this a fairly normal request at first services? Being a fairly cynical person where garages are concerned, is there any way of checking that the job has been done as requested or do I just have to take their word for it? -
CAR Disposal Scheme 24 Jan 2005 (Forum)
Since nobody has taken up my offer of a free X reg Polo with 4 months MoT (Posted on the classifieds for about the last 3 weeks) I rang to enquire about about the temporary free local council disposal scheme. This scheme is only running for 2 weeks (ends Friday) BUT if you request a form now it will remain valid for a significant if not indefinite period. When I asked for several forms, planning for the future, she said just photocopy the faxed form, and use as many times as you like for free! -

Merc E Class 22 Nov 2004 (Forum)
He is keen on the 270Cdi, but at a pinch would get a 220Cdi. What are the chances of a good deal in the run up to Xmas? (By the way, don't let new Doctors tell you how crap the pay and hours are! He is on £35K as a newbie. Hattie Jacques and James Robertson Justice would have a fit if they knew. And, how about this....he gets £50 a pop to sign a certificate for cremation) -
1991 Cavalier overheating 21 Oct 2004 (Forum)
Have drained and flushed whole system with thermostat removed and heater on full. Have fitted new thermostat. Have removed radiator, had running water through from both hose connections. Have blown air through radiator fins. On open road, temperature guage shows normal. In traffic, guage soon raches 90 deg. and electric fan cuts in intermittently, maintaining temp. slightly below that level.
