• Fuel filter change - 1.8D Fiesta 1996 2 Feb 2007 (Forum)
  How difficult is it to change the fuel filter on a 96 Endura engined 1.8 diesel Fiesta? I have done oil & filters on the car several times, next one due in a couple of weeks, and thought I'd stick a new fuel filter on at the same time. I don't have any hose clamps though - can I make do with pliers or a small pair of grips?

   Living in Spain, we thought that we would look at the "local" manufacturer but before doing so we hired several cars - Seat Ibiza, Renault Megane, Citroen C3 and C4, Fiat Punto Eco, Ford Focus.  All diesel.  In May this year, after considerable deliberation, we purchased a Seat Ibiza ST 1.6 diesel.  With varied driving conditions - short journeys plus motorway trips of 200kms+, we have used: 40.7 litres diesel over 748 kms; 38.6 litres diesel over 718 kms; 42.1 litres over 789 kms.

  Hi Everyone New to this Forum.  I was wondering if anyone had had any problems with diesel fuel from a Morrisons filing station?   My car was nearly empty and running fine.  I filled to the brim £76.23 on 8th March, I have the receipt stating 'Diesel'.  2 days later my car started to misfire badly, I couldn't get it to a garage within 2 days and I was going away for a week after that, so 2 weeks elapsed between me filling and the garage telling me I had petrol in my fuel tank and a lot of damage had been done.

  I have just put another engine in my 1.8 diesel partner van i can get fuel to the pump and blead it but know further, have tried with the ignition switched on, have also tried the old pump still the same. any ideas

  Anyone had what they might consider a slightly dodgy batch of Esso diesel recently? Filled up in Devon (almost empty tank) and fuel economy has dropped from 52mpg down to 39. Same journeys, same driving style, more or less the same conditions. {made non make/model specific}

  I know the Mazda 6 is good etc... but does anyone know who makes the oil burner for it? Is it the ford unit from the new mondeo? or maybe the new joint ford PSA diesel, or something else. If it is the Ford, does it have the same doddgy injection system and up and down fuel economy like the Mondeo?

  hi still got fuel problem i put £10 of diesel in andonly got 47 miles on a run just wondered if changing thermostat and coolant temp sensor and vac pipe  will make that much difference , i have serviced it about 2000 miles ago to see if that made any difference but it didnt, hope somebody can help thanks

  Hi My 407 2.0 hdi only starts properly when i have given the primer bulb a few squeezes(it does start without the primer but takes a lot of cranking) once started its fine and drives very well with no problems, could this most likely be a fault with the seal in the fuel filter?, there is no smell of diesel. al

  I've just put unleaded into my diesel, the company who sorted me out told me of a new website snip who insure againnt the cost, and if you wrong fuel you become a member of the snip again who donate money to charity. I wish I had known about this first it would have saved me £180!!

  I've never been able to understand people going seriously out of their way to pay 1p less per litre for fuel, but this afternoon the BP garage on one side of the road was selling diesel for 94.9p per litre (and it's on the way out of a retail park), and the Shell garage on the other side had it at 89.9. 22.5 p per gallon less!

  Hi all a quick question, i recently used "ZX1 Extralube" in my fuel tank (stupidly putitng in 100ml instead of 50ml) since which the car has lost power on acceleration. This is an intermittent problem which comes and goes, i am still on the same tank of diesel too.

  Seems to be a consensus of opinion that ‘peak diesel’ was the early 2000s. Common rail or PD injection systems that give relatively quiet running, easy cold starting, plenty of torque, tall gearing, decent fuel economy and none of the emissions related DPF and AdBlue problems that blight newer diesels.

  A friend of mine has a 1999 vauxhall corsa 1.5 non turbo diesel.The problem has been trying to start from cold.When he trys to start the car from cold when it has been left over nite it will not start.He has checked that there is fuel at the injectors but if he fills the pump up with diesel manualy it will start.All the glow plugs have been checked and are working fine. Can anyone offer any info on the pump..like when it is turned off does it still hold fuel in the pump or does it return back into the tank...sorry if this seems a bit vauge but i'm getting the problem via second hand info.

  Will try a temperature sensor to see it this helps as I assume it is linked to the ECU and replace the fuel filter as they are cheap. Also read about a 'Thermostatic Valve' in the fuel line which looks like a promising answer to my problem....are they expensive, easy to get at for a D.I.Y machanic and can they be repaired/cleaned?

   I replaced this after about 50 miles.  When i started car it seemed to rev faster on idle.  Fuel problem developed where it seemed air in system?  Engine dying then picking up again.  Decided to change filter and now I cant get fuel to injector pump.  I filled filter housing with diesel, pumped the system but still no fuel.
