I have a couple of questions one my father heard a slight knocking in the engine, any ideas and when we looked at the service history there were two bills of electric work from a local garage one for about £730.00 including a new dash board a total of over £1000.00 in the last 18 months. -
Fiesta Zetec S Diesel - comments? 4 Oct 2012 (Forum)
Hello All, Long time no post, but I'm looking at perhaps leasing a Fiesta Zetec S TDCI for a very attaractive £122 + some vat with a £1k deposit and I wondered if there are any owners out there who have any comments? I note that HJ likes that engine in the Fiesta I've got a Mazda 2 ts2 petrol at the mo which is fun, but is noisy, has poor seats and gives about 33mpg at 85mph (much better at 70 but I get so bored) Can I expect the fiesta to give the holy grail of the same fun handling, comfort and 50mpg at 85? -

Ive just replaced all the Brake pads on Mini cooper S 2006 model. I had to strip the rear calipers to free the adjuster for the handbrake. ive re filled with fluid and bled the rear brakes but they still feel spongey. Would i be as well bleeding the whole system( front as well as back) and is there any special procedure for this? -
Subaru Forester (1997 - 2002) - 00 2.0T- Removal of alternator S fuse with ign on. 24 Aug 2008 (Forum)
During some wiring fault tracing I inadvertently removed the underbonnet 10A "ALT/S" fuse which probably not a good idea when the ignition was on altho' engine not running. On replacing same there was a distinct click from I think the boost solenoid control area . Car seems to be running ok and no CEL's but for my future general knowledge is there a capacitator or similar in the alternator which could cause a surge of current when removing/replacing the said fuse which could damage the ecu or other components particularly if the ignition is on? -
September Battlefields,Flanders/Agincourt/Albert 12 Aug 2008 (Forum)
http://tinyurl.com/6fx4po http://tinyurl.com/5525ur http://tinyurl.com/5hpkat Particularly want to see the Passchendaele battlefield as `Old Brown` used to tell us kids (in the late 50`s) horror stories of him having `gone over the top` there. There`s a Museum at Agincourt too http://tinyurl.com/5bo38n Also a return to Albert and the surrounding area, perhaps walking up Wood lane, see map. -
Ford S-MAX (2006 - ) - Turning your engine off at traffic lights? 16 Aug 2007 (Forum)
I?ve often heard that to start a car?s engine requires more fuel than leaving it running at a set of traffic lights for a short while? Is this true? If you have a warm engine, why does it need ?extra? fuel to start it? If this is true, how long would you need to be waiting at the lights before it becomes more economical to turn the engine off and re-start when the lights go green? -

Pollution CO2 V/S PM10 28 Jan 2007 (Forum)
The 20 Jan issue of New Scientist has an article on the petrol v/s diesel and its effects on air quality in the UK. It seems that the UK vehicle tax, with its emphasis on carbon dioxide emissions, has encouraged an increase in diesel ownership by 21% by 2005. Diesels engines tend to emit less CO2 than petrol, so the reduction in emissions between 2001 and 2030 is estimated to be up to 7 megatonnes. -
throw away Golf 10 Nov 2003 (Forum)
Misfire from cold after a mile or so ,especially around 3000rpm,seems to clear when taken through revs ,but never really sorts.Idle is rough and happens on the over run . Misfire feels like the car wants to clear it`s throat, like rev limiter kicking in when throttle is held at 3000rpm. Any ideas as it`s had every test done,Main dealer to dyno boys. Any other V.W owners had similar. Before it`s destined to the auction, and i`ve pulled out every last hair. -

Renault Espace Tailgate Window 31 Jul 2003 (Forum)
I thought the plastic sockets on the strut ends may have worn so I lashed out £60 on a new pair (you can never just buy the bit that\'s broken, can you?!) only to find that it\'s made no difference. Anyone got any ideas about what to try next? If it works you can have half of the labour charge a Renault dealer would have fleeced me for (about three million quid at today\'s rates) without any guarantee of success! -
The curse of the cat 2 May 2003 (Forum)
I blame the wretched catalytic converter for most of the current raft of problems that inflict many of today`s cars, due mainly to the complication of electronic monitoring sensors (E.C.U`s) to control fuel/air ratios. There gas been much discussed recently (and justifiably) about the unreliability of the new Renault Laguna, but pre-cat models, like the Renault 4 and 5 were extremely reliable, and capable of 150k mileages without too many problems. -

MPVs, S-max, child seats and a 2-3-2 8 Jul 2008 (Forum)
Anyone got any other suggestions? Ideally a mid sized MPV rather than full size, hence the S-Max looking promising.
