any - Driving Snow Covered Cars 2 Apr 2013 (Forum)
There's loads of folks driving about with snow covered cars. Fools! A woman was killed in the last snows when she braked and the snow on her roof slid off over the screen - the wipers couldn't cope with the weight and she had a crash unable to see. Not only that, but the snow blowing off the roof effectively means the car behind is driving through a blizzard! -
Fore Fiesta 2006 MK5 - ABS/Handbrake Light perm on & speedo not working 27 Mar 2013 (Forum)
Unfortunately, it does seem that this is a common problem with Fords. I checked the brake fluid straight away and it is full. Would welcome some advice please. -
Vectra 2.5L: V6 1999 - Vectra 2.5L V6 Traction Control Problem 27 Mar 2013 (Forum)
I've been having this unusual problem with the Vectra. Traction Control is engaged under these conditions: 1. when gear shifts to R, 2. when braking hard 3., when cruising. These TC problem does not happen when car is cold but only when normal engine temp 90 degrees celcius is reached. I have changed the fluid and probem persist. What coulld be the problem? -
VW Golf - eBrakes/Autohold and hill starts. 17 Mar 2013 (Forum)
However does anyone have experience of these, particularly the AutoHold function, where pressure is maintained in the brake sytem until such time as you gradually release the clutch and and employ suffficient gas, to pull away on steep-ish hills? I wonder just how well these devices fare on 10% hills or steeper. -
Jeep Cherokee - Jeep Cherokee 2.5crd ltd timing belt or chain? 4 Dec 2012 (Forum)
I have also noted a squeaking sound coming from the right hand wheel when turning at slow speeds ~20 mph. Local garage have looked at brakes, no problems at all, in excellent condition... Any ideas??? Thanks Luke -
Picasso xsara - Stop switch 21 Jul 2012 (Forum)
Hi, both brake lights are out, no blown bulbs or fuses, after looking online last night I checked the stop switch this morning but from looking at it it seems to be working fine? The button goes in and out freely and it's connected properly. -
Mitsubishi Colt 5-door (2005) - Noise in Higher Gears 17 Feb 2012 (Forum)
When accellerating the noise is kind of drowned out by the engine, but it continues when not accellerating or braking. You can only really hear it when in fourth or fifth gears. Any ideas what this could be? If I didn't know the car I might think it's normal, but it is definitely something which wasn't there before... -
VW Polo - VW Polo 52 Plate 1.4 Electrical problems 16 Feb 2012 (Forum)
This also occurs when i put the car in reverse, and yesterday the EPC light came on which im told is usually indicative of a brake light switch failure. Clearly theres something not right with the electrics- can anyone tell me what it might be? -
Vauxhall Tigra Red convertible 2007 1400cc - Water in sills 23 Jan 2012 (Forum)
A short time ago I noticed the sound of water sloshing around in the sills on the passenger side when braking or cornering. My local agent identified this, cleared the water and told me not to power wash the car, but normal washing would be OK He charged £88 for this work. Two weeks later the problem has recurred, even worse than before. -
Audi S4 Cabriolet - Audi winter tyre wheel availability 23 Jan 2012 (Forum)
Does anyone know where I can obtain the 17" wheels my S4 handbook says I should use for winter tyres, but according to my Audi deale,r Audi refuses to import suitable steel 17" wheels into the UK. Specialist winter tyre dealers tell me that due to the size of the brakes on an S4 I cannot just buy any old 17" wheels of the correct stud spacings. -
Citroen Xsara HDi - Xsara clicking 16 Sep 2010 (Forum)
Wife has an 02 plate Xsara HDi, and when travelling at slow speed, and in a straight line, there is a clicking sound, similar to a cv joint that you can hear when you turn. Also the car vibrates under braking, and I know that these are prone to warped discs. The rear pads have been changed, as have the front discs, (The front pads were like brand new.) and everything is tightened. The car is brilliant on fuel, but she's getting a bit hacked off with it. -
Worn front tyres with new rears 14 Apr 2010 (Forum)
I would expect understeer on the fronts if anything but i wonder if this twitch at the rear is the result of VSC braking or controlling the understeer? -
Ford S-Max - Ford service stripped wheel studs 22 Mar 2010 (Forum)
I took my car in for a 3 year service and MOT to a Ford main dealer. They tell me that in the course of taking off one of the rear wheels to replace the brake pads they stripped one of the 5 wheel studs. Apparently the wheel studs are integral to the hub and therefore they want to charge me for a new hub. With parts and labour that'll be £289.60 thank you very much. -
slowing down in the 21st century 11 Jan 2010 (Forum)
Reading a piece today where its now the norm to teach people to slow down with the brakes and not to use the gearbox. Well i have a message for these new world teachers of fashion--- --------how many accidents have you caused with this bad teaching this last week with all the snow we have had had? -
What went wrong - Corvette abuse 5 Jan 2010 (Forum)
Warning - the following link shows a corvette being painfully abused! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GJ6atGhmVU8 So what went wrong? My guess is that he held the brakes too hard and didn't bring the clutch up quick enough. But there are some other possible causes - tracton control? super duper grippy tyres? LSD? faulty clutch? What do you think? - no need for comments about the stupidity of what the guy did, I think he already knows that :) -
Citroen Xantia (1993 - 2000) - 20 1.9d rumbling from front end 25 Oct 2009 (Forum)
I have a rumbling sound coming from front end, imitates sound like loose exaust or engine sump cover but isnt I have checked! on accelerating only, but disapears if hand brake is pulled up, like something is resonating. the car was booked into a dealer to service and cure the noise they charged me £ 337 and did not cure it, told me to live with it for a while but refused to refund my money -
Ford Fiesta (2000 - 2002) - 01 1.6 Trailing arm bushes 23 Sep 2009 (Forum)
Hi, got a problem thats beginning to bug me. In the last month or so my car has been making a knocking noise when braking or going over bumps, I believe it is coming from the rear. My usual garage say that it is the trailing arm bushes and that both need doing at a cost of £150. Could it be anything else? Is this a likely cause and would you think the price is reasonable? -
Saab 99 - The most modern car ever made? 20 Aug 2009 (Forum)
I saw a 1980 W reg one the other day and noticed:- 3 Circular heating controls Front and rear head rests Rear middle LED brake light Nice thick rimmed steering wheel and well padded in them middle Alloy wheels When you think the Brits were still making Cortinas and Marinas in 1980! I am just amazed at how modern design is for a 32 year old design. -
Volvo S60 (2000 - 2009) - 02 2.4 d5 drivers wheel clicking 9 Jan 2009 (Forum)
my car has started making a clicking noise from the drivers wheel once i reach speeds over 40mph,the noise cannot be heard once window is down although i think this is due to wind noise and the clicking noise seems to be traveling through the car body.I have checked all bushes & brakes, everything seems ok. has anyone had similar problem? -
Volkswagen Bora (1999 - 2006) - 2004 1.9TDi ESP Warning Light 10 Sep 2008 (Forum)
I have pressed the ESP switch on the dashboard but the only way I have found to turn it off is to switch ignition off and restart. What should I check to find the fault, could it be brakes or something more sinister?
