New car with more poke... Suggestions? 6 Apr 2007 (Forum)
Hi all. I currently drive a 1.1l Peugeot 106, which is a great car in the town (maybe half my driving is in town), but gets a bit breathless on motorways. I'm approaching my 25th birthday, and was thinking of getting myself a new car with a bit more poke. -
Toyota Yaris D-4D 1.4 28 Jun 2006 (Forum)
We have seen Polo 1.4 TDI achieved in excess of 100k miles. Does anyone knows who made these D-4D engien, is it a Toyota or a Citreon/Peugeot design? I must say that when we test driven it today - we didn't see any mechincal problem. The only thing we noticed were the clutch squeeks a little when depressed. The garage is a main dealer (not Toyota though), I have asked to see the service history book and the salesman say he needs to track it down, because the car was purchased from another dealer?? -
Toyota Corolla SR or Citroen C4 VTR 14 Jun 2006 (Forum)
What I don't understand is how can another value the car when they haven't even seen it!? Or is it a case that Toyota dealer will sell to Peugeot dealer? (Maybe Blue Haddock can elighten me). I have found plenty of deals for the Citreon (which doesn't suprise me) But I can't find a single deal for the Toyota even though its going to be replaced next year. -
Have I missed Anything? 15 Apr 2006 (Forum)
I have a budget of £5500 and a p/x worth about £5000 - £5500 if i am lucky. I currently have a smart Peugeot 206 estate 1.4 petrol on a 04 plate. We have a 1 year old son. We want something reliable, safe and if possible a Diesel. It should be a 55 plate or later and have a decent about of space in the boot. -
what estate for show dogs? 16 Oct 2005 (Forum)
Not vital as I have 2 fans that run off the cigar lighter, but seeing as the aircon is working anyway it seems a shame! Current limo is a peugeot 406 HDI 110 diesel, which has been pretty much excellent. Only crit really is it's sprung with this current obsession of estates that handle like sportscars (i.e hard, so one sees ears going up & descending in the rear view mirror as one goes over bumps. -
BMW 318 E46 Coolant System Troubles 18 Oct 2003 (Forum)
Its not really what I expected from a BMW. Of all the cars I have had, it has been the most troublesome. I once had a Peugeot 106 which did 90000 miles and I had no problems at all. Has anyone else had troublesome experiences with Beemers. Cheers Marty -
road rage & stupidity 4 Aug 2003 (Forum)
Let all those who continually bash the traffic police for daring to catch them breaking the law sober up and think again! Worse for me was the piece about the HGV and Peugeot which resulted in the car driver losing a leg. It all started because the car driver swerved dangerously in front of the HGV and what followed was an altercation resulting in the car driver being trapped under the HGV's front wheels and suffering serious damage to one of his legs. -
Time to treat myself 2 Feb 2003 (Forum)
So it's time to get rid of the family runaround and get a proper car! Currently we have a P-plate Peugeot 405 TD Style estate, ex-minicab, mega mileage, mega basic spec, mega rattly, worth £1000 in part-ex. SWMBO drives it most days, me at weekends and on holiday. Annual mileage around 9,000. MY requirements are: Aircon ABS Quiet, smooth petrol engine! -
Lagos ... Motoring hell! 20 Jan 2003 (Forum)
Also poholed and ditched... even more fun at 80km/h VEHICLES: Minibus taxis abound, plus ,millions of mopeds, normally with three occupants. Skoda, VW, Merc, Renault all well represented, as are Toyota, Nissan and Peugeot. Most vehicles seem to be Pug 504's (the circa 75 one!), favoured by govt departments, it wopuld appear. about 10% of all vehicles DON'T have some form of accident damage! Despite the poor state of the roads, there are still a fair few Flash motors - I saw more Jag XK8's than I have ij Cape Town! -

Maintenance 309 (short run) 20 May 2002 (Forum)
I do up to 500 miles per week. The car is a Peugeot 309 1.4i, 1993. Manual says oil change every 6000 and a service every 12000. Half these for hard use, which includes 'frequent short journeys from cold, or door to door use.' My mileage is from the following: -College, 10 miles away on back roads -Social, various journeys but never under 5 miles and sometimes will be a long-ish drive, maybe 60+ miles -Pizza delivery - 2 nights a week, 70-100 miles in a night typically. -
Do I need a new car? 15 Apr 2002 (Forum)
friendly, personal service, prompt, efficient, professional, honest, committed and reasonable costs.? - Hence my present 1998 Peugeot 406. Thing is, I?ve just agreed to spend 1 day a week for the rest of the year (with the possibility of increasing next year) working for a bunch of Internet entrepreneurs who run around in £30,000 status cars. -
Shopping for auntie dear. 3 Sep 2020 (Forum)
I made a wee shortlist of all the available small automatics that I’d recommend and expected an easy deal on a nearby 67 plate Jazz Auto at £9995 or a facelift 66 plate Peugeot 2008 Allure 1.2 Auto at £10,800. Both low mileage and both very tidy. The Jazz was instantly swatted aside by auntie who decided it wasn’t high enough, this despite having no mobility issues what so ever and the car being maybe an inch shorter than the Mini she drives now and has decided is too bulky for her?? -
Peugeot 307 (2001 - 2007) - DVLA Scrapped car by mistake 30 Oct 2009 (Forum)
Right here goes: I bought a car from a dealer on 14/10/2006 it was a mere 2.5 years old. I signed the paperwork for the V5 (which I never personally received... -
Ford Ka etc - Small city car - runabout/learner car 6 Aug 2025 (Forum)
58 plate through to 14 plate models all seem to be afflicted. Or is the nature of the beast with cars of this age? looking at the Peugeot/Citroen/Toyota trio, they also seem to see similar issues, not quite as prevalent though. Son number 1 has the Citroen C1 which I know son number 2 doesn’t like…so least interested in one of these. -
Citreon - Struggling to buy a used car at todays prices 15 Oct 2022 (Forum)
Most cars of those years are £8,000 +. Why? Not necessarily looking for a Citroen though. I'd love a Vauxhall Mokka ideally. Peugeot 2008 maybe or Kia Picanto. Every car I see is out of my price range. Why are used cars so high in price? I'm a single parent and work self employed. It's hard to be able to afford most things let alone a decent car nowadays. -
Reliable Used Hatchback - £10k Budget 5 Aug 2021 (Forum)
No family so no need for loads of space) Manual £10k or under (I have never been a "car" person, so still consider spending £10k on a car to be a lot of money - my main focus now is on reliability / value for money - I'm not particularly concerned with how fun the car is to drive) No older than '16 model with up to 35k mileage - I intend to pay for the car in cash and keep it for 5+ years Will most likely buy from a dealer (due to lack of confidence in buying privately again) From a quick bit of research, I have been looking at the following cars (which all seem to meet my criteria): VW Polo (2017 -) Seat Ibiza Skoda Fabia Toyota Yaris Peugeot 208 Vauxhall Corsa What are your thoughts on the above / should I be looking at any others? I am all ears...! Thanks very much -
Buying a car seems to be difficult 4 Jul 2020 (Forum)
Now that the Corolla is off the list its back to the XC40 but before that I decided to scan WhatCar and see what other estates might tempt me. None to be honest, Audi, Ford, Hyundai, Kia, Vauxhall, Peugeot, Mazda etc something was unavailable on all of them or the prices were daft. But the VW Passat in 2.0 TSi SEL spec seemed to tick all the boxes. Only option needed was to upgrade from A/C to climate and add a spare wheel (£160 for a matching alloy with proper sized tyre). -
Toyota Auris - hybrid or diesel & what MPG to expect 30 Jun 2016 (Forum)
I know a diesel is better for the motorway, but I'm wondering whether I would be better served by getting a hybrid to deal with the in town traffic, or would the saving here be lost by using petrol on a motorway? I was looking at something along the lines of a Peugeot 308 1.6 e-HDI which is a diesel stop start, but I've heard that stop-starts do naff all in terms of saving fuel? I was thinking of an Auris Hybrid (about 2012), but tbh, the transmission on my current one is a nightmare and I don't really want to repeat that. -
Looking for no nonsense load swallower 18 Apr 2015 (Forum)
But would be interested to hear any left field suggestions - Ssangyong Rodius, Chevrolet Orlando, etc. I have considered a used Grand Renault Espace or Peugeot 5008, but am put off by general negative reputation of these makes. I have a Citroen which I have put 176k miles on from new, so am not afraid of going French, or something non Germanic. But I do want something that is reliable and reasonably low maintenance - the Citroen is serviced every 20k miles at Halfords and has not let me down (touch wood).
