50 years of The Italian Job to be celebrated at London show 5 Feb 2019 (News)
Originally a demonstrator and raced in 1961, it was sold to model Richard Essame in 1962 who landed a part in the film as one of the Mini Cooper drivers. Essame drove the car to location in Italy, where the production team saw it and thought it would be ideal for the film and purchased it from him. Rounding out the three originals from the film is the Aston Martin DB4 Convertible (163 ELT) that was supposedly tipped over a cliff by a bulldozer. -
Was 1959 the greatest British motor show? 10 Nov 2014 (News)
It’s lines were pure 1953, its side valve engine was best described as ‘venerable’ and the level of trim was miserable even by 1959 economy car standards (the base model had an interior light on the optional extras list) but it was ‘a real car’. But the Morris Mini-Minor and its Austin Seven twin boasted a heater and windscreen washers in De Luxe forms - but they had tiny wheels, sliding front windows and no apparent boot. Pathé News may have described the Mini’s transverse engine as ‘a novel appealing feature’ but the British Motor Corporation sold only 20,000 of their new small car in the first year of production – sure proof that they would never catch on… WHAT DO YOU THINK? -

Used MPV Sales Up, All Else Down, According to Experian 26 Mar 2009 (News)
Kirk Fletcher, Managing Director of Experian's Automotive division, said: "The latest used car sales statistics show that despite a greater focus on smaller, more economical vehicles, the fall in sales for the used supermini and mini segments were still on a par with, for example, the upper medium and the sports segments. It indicates that even in a downturn there is a certain degree of reluctance to downgrade in size. Ten Grand Tigra at Auction Today 28 Jul 2006 (News)
This 13,000 mile 2004/54 Tigra 1.4 was about £500 ahead of book selling for £9,950 and most of the other sales were for similarly strong money. A 43k mile all cream 03 reg MINI Cooper read sensible at £7,475, but it had obviously had a knock at the front and the bonnet did not fit. About the only car I spotted that was marginally below trade book was a 16k mile BMW X3 2.5 Sport auto that sold for £17,900. -
Cars £500 Less Than a Month Ago at Auction 30 Mar 2005 (News)
Today at BCA Blackbushe, the final few 3-year-old 51 reg MINI Coopers first entered by Leaseplan around 7 weeks ago finally sold for between £7,300 and £7,650 for 24k to 36k miles. That’s at least £500 less than they were being pushed to in February, and confirms that at last these cars are becoming affordable, even though £7,300 is still a lot to pay for a 36,000 mile 3 year old car this size. -

A Grand Monday: Ford Fiesta 9 Jun 2014 (News)
‘Superminis’ are all the rage in the world of new cars, but very few modern fans seem to remember that the small car DNA is founded in classic rootes, which stretch as far back as far as the 1950s, with the BMW Isetta, Fiat 500 and Mini paving the way for today’s modern marvels. Ford was a particular late comer to the supermini sector and the Fiesta wouldn’t make its debut until 1976, which was a number of years behind its rivals like the Renault 5. -

Summer value at Historics' first sale of 2014 12 Mar 2014 (News)
Another interesting car was the 1968 Volvo Amazon, which sold for an above-estimate £9500. At the other end of the scale, a wholly-original 1963 Austin Mini (bottom) that has covered just 24,500 since new, made its way for £10,304. Post-sale, Historics’ Auction Director, Edward Bridger-Stille, said: 'Interestingly, more than 30% of our 110 consignments were soft-tops and I’m delighted that virtually all found new UK owners – Thankfully, our home-grown love affair for open-air motoring has not been dampened by recent conditions.' -
