  • Cold starting problem on a Nissan QX 26 Mar 2007 (Forum)
All this messing about has involved repeated dealer visits with overnight tests due to the long cooldown period that seems to be necessary to make the fault appear, not to mention shedloads of money (QX ancillary parts are not cheap!). The car is otherwise reliable and runs well but this fault is driving us crazy and the dealer now freely admits to being baffled.
  • So why not a Yaris then? 23 Oct 2006 (Forum)
My wife has had a Eunos/MX5 for several years now, utterly reliable and lots of fun especially in the summer. it has been used for local runs, backwards and forwards to work/shops etc. However my wife has developed a disc problem and my mother-in-law is increasingly in need of support. There has been a significant increase in journies to her home - 60 miles away.
  • Volvo 240 severed tailgate wire 29 Aug 2006 (Forum)
Hopefully this is a more straightforward problem than my last post! Thank you for the answers. The problem is that the wire that runs to the high break-light has severed at the tailgate hinge. I've got round this up to now by wiring the number plate light separately and making do with the 2 breaklights in the rear clusters (which work OK).
  • Nissan X-Trail - troublesome! 9 Jul 2006 (Forum)
However, 2 weeks after collecting the car it began to shudder/jerk at any speed and in any gears. This occurs intermittantly and can run beautifully. We have taken it in to Nissan 3 times since then and they claim the car is running "as good as gold" and the computers cannot find a fault. Extremely frustrating. So we will go back this evening to collect the car and inform them that we are not "legally accepting the car".
  • Vauxhall Astra G Petrol (1998 - 2004) - 98 1.4 - sluggish performance and EML. 8 Mar 2006 (Forum)
Hi, I'm a bit of a newbie. Not really a car expert but know enough to know my Astra isn't running right at the minute. I seem to be allsorts of problems with the thing at the moment and when I've taken it to the garage, they hook it up to the computer and tell me it's alright, it doesn't have anything wrong with it.
  • Frontera diesel low idle + stall problem 20 Oct 2005 (Forum)
It starts fine and drives well until I sit at some lights etc and let the engine idle. After about 5 seconds idling, the idle drops by 100 - 150 rpm and the engine runs lumpy. Drive away, and the engine isn't pulling as well (very subtle differnece) as before the car stopped. Somethings kicking in and making the idle drop and then the engine isn't pulling quite as well as before that happened.
  • Bora 2.ol running probs/low mpg 22 Jun 2005 (Forum)

  • Bank the money or buy a sports car? 13 Apr 2005 (Forum)
Also, any other options would be good - I was tempted by a westfield or something but they seem impossible to get insurance quotes for online. Budget is anything upto £15k - but want something which will hold its value, and is reasonable to run. Cheers
  • Vectra CDX 1998 Air Con Problems 12 Aug 2004 (Forum)
When i let the car cool down later that day it worked fine again, cools the car no problems. It then happend again when it was left parked in the sun for a couple of hours, compressor not engaged, when it had cooled later that night all fine again. I have checked under the bonnet for any bad connections when running but no joy. I have checked all the fuses , the wire at the compressor the relays (not sure which one works the compressor) all seem ok. I think i have read on here that the compressors on these cars have a pressure cut off switch fitted in the compressor so it will not run if low on gas pressure.

So why not lighten up a little, mods? Nothing wrong, surely, with the odd use of carp or something humorously abusive when emotion runs high, especially when there?s a twinkle in the contributor?s eye. Of course, you can tell me ?If you don?t like it, you can go away promptly?, but this censoriousness seems to me both a tad frustrating and comical.
  • £15k Suggestions, A3, Civic, Golf, Mazda 2 Mar 2004 (Forum)
I'm after something: 1) Reliable Had a Honda Civic for 8 years and absolutely NO problems with it outside of the usual wear'n'tear. 2) Comfortable I spend about 2.5-3 hours a day minimum driving this car, so I want to feel comfortable in it. 3) Eats up mileage I'm running about 25000 miles a year and would be looking to keep hold of this car for 3-6 years I reckon. 4) Petrol or Diesel I need to work out the figures, but I'm open to running either a diesel or petrol engine.
  • Xantia TD starting 22 Nov 2003 (Forum)
I must also point out that I doubt they're lying to me because my mum works there! There are absolutely no problems with the motor once it's running, so I find it hard to imagine the injectors are at fault, but who knows?! Does anyone have any suggestions? Pre-heating relay perhaps? Thanks in advance if you can help. Alex.
  • Q Car 2 Nov 2003 (Forum)
Picture the scene. Three cars, all with drivers behaving themselves, gently running up to a roundabout on an NSL A road. Nice, shiny, 03 reg BMW Coupe 330i, leading a filthy dirty, knocked and banged about, brake-dust-blackened alloys, apparently povert spec, SAAB 9000 on a G plate, and then me.
  • Renault 19 Problem 13 Sep 2003 (Forum)
Hi, Can any one help me with a problem I\'ve got with a Renault 19 GTS-X 1.4 ENERGY. The problem is it will not idle. Other than that it runs great, accelerates normally, it doesn\'t misfire, it\'s not using excessive amounts of fuel or oil, and it starts first time every time. It is a 1390cc (EJ6) engine with a Weber 32 TLDR carb. I left the car standing for two weeks, while I was on holiday.
  • Vectra DTI fuel problem 29 Aug 2003 (Forum)
First problem ever with my 98 Vectra Dti this morning. After a good run yesterday it simply wouldn?t start this morning in the drive. The engine was spinning over well but with no signs of even beginning to fire. Eventually for the first time I called on my breakdown service and Green Flag arrived in 50 minutes and immediately suspected a fuel problem.
  • vectra di 14 Mar 2003 (Forum)
I will take the car back later on today to see if the faults come back, as my mate cleared them. I\'ll let you know on that one. Weird thing is that once the car is started it will run forever no probs, it will even start off the crank all day no probs at all. It\'s just that initial first start. Anybody any ideas? If you want more info on something just ask. Cheers
  • astra diesel 7 Jul 2002 (Forum)
If this light isn't glow plug related, anybody know what it is, 'cos now it doesn't go out until the engine is running (helpfully there is no handbook supplied with the van) More generally, quite like driving it. Love the torque available from low down. Don't like the way you can floor it and have nothing happen.
  • Vectra 2.0Di To Dip Or Not To Dip. 22 Feb 2002 (Forum)
Hi. Q.When to take a dipstick reading I know this sounds like a silly Q but.... I've been running a '96 Vectra 2.0Di for a while now and have read somewhere that they take quite some time for the engine oil to drain to the sump so readings should be taken quite some time (say 1hr+) after the car has been warmed up.
  • Sierra - What no spark? 26 Oct 2001 (Forum)
Although friendly car parts shop allowed each to be returned and both were tried individually. Leads are all new. Strange but it has run a couple of times for about 10-15 seconds before cutting out and wont restart. Carb has been cleaned out. Thought it may only be running on what's in the float chamber, but dont think that's it or it would go each time it refilled when turned over. 12v approx is present at the LT into the coil but nothing out.
  • Toyota Yaris, 2015 Automatic. - Why is the resale price of my car so high? 7 Mar 2025 (Forum)
HJ is quoting 9 to10 thousand, part ex 7,700. My car has 40,000 on the clock and runs like a dream, but even so... This price sounds absurd, but I have always used their pricing when trying to negotiate a deal. If this is correct perhaps I need to sell now and upgrade, even though I love my little car.
