Four by two-upmanship 22 Mar 2005 (Forum)
To distinguish them from the humble 4x4 class of cars, shouldn't two-wheel drive cars be classed as 4x2's? (Or should it be 2x4's? Which comes first ~ the number of wheels or the number that are driven?) -- L\'escargot by name, but not by nature. -
Ford p/x deal? 18 Mar 2005 (Forum)
As I await a test drive in a Mondeo ST tdci, I noticed that Ford are offering a £2000 p/x allowance. Is this over and above the book price or is it a case of £2000 for any piece of junk. Anybody any knowledge? -

Ford S-MAX (2006 - ) - Test Drive - Impressions 2 Oct 2007 (Forum)
SWMBO and I made an impromptu stop at the local Ford dealer this afternoon, and ended up taking a test drive in an S-Max off their used forecourt. It was a 10,000 mile 56 plate 1.8 TDCi 125PS Zetec model. This was doubly interesting for me, being able to directly compare it with a Ford from 7 years ago, and a direct competitor that we had driven there. -
Land Rover Experience in Scotland 18 Aug 2004 (Forum)
So turning the key actually made the vehicle start to roll back. All these things you learn when you drive - half of them don't count when you drive off road. The first time I did the failed climb, yes - i stuck my foot on the clutch, much to the amusement of Una, and my daughter, who was watching in the back. -
Toyota Avensis - Used car warning signs - anything to worry about? 30 Mar 2017 (Forum)
My wife and I narrowed down our options to a Toyota Avensis, we hired a car and viewed a few yesterday. I don't drive (eyesight), she was previously driving abroad and now has a UK licence. Without any mechanical knowledge between us I'm mostly going on impressions of the seller and car. I'm planning to get RAC inspections done on the best two, but that costs over £300 for two and takes nearly a week. -
Toyota Auris Touring Sports - Auris TS hybrid test drive 13 Jun 2016 (Forum)
My thinking is that surely this means I wasn't using all the battery and was therefore guilty of lugging the battery around and only using a small amount of it. Maybe this means I need to alter my driving style? The difference between eco, normal, power was noticeable. -
Hyundai i30 Tourer - Driving in Sardinia 31 May 2015 (Forum)
Direction signs can suddenly disappear so satnav, or a good sense of direction are recommended, we had the latter! Police are hot on bad driving and speeding and we saw plenty of patrols, driving everything from the usual Fiats and Lancias to BMWs and even a couple of Subaru Foresters. Speaking to the hire company rep when I took the car back he said in August traffic police from mainland Italy are sent to Sardinia to increase patrols dramatically and pull Italian holiday makers who have no regard for any aspect of road safety. -
Ford Ka - Creaking noises 12 Nov 2014 (Forum)
Turning right, it is hard to avoid a manhole cover and a couple of bumps in the road; here (at about 10mph) there will be a knocking noise IF I happen to get the wheels over any of these while turning. I could drive over any surface in a straight line and there is no noise. At the same time, the noise does not happen every time I turn left, but will always happen at the same corners, only being avoided if I drive very slowly (although even then there is no guarantee there won't be some 'creak'). -
How To Control A Slide On Ice Like A Pro 27 Dec 2009 (Forum)
There's tons of alluring titles for articles on the web, but you dive into them only to find they mention things like "pack a warm blanket", "take a thermos flask". No! The title of the article was "How To Drive On Ice" not how to prepare for winter driving! Argh, i know that bit already! Teach me the driving technique already! So anyway, after much frantic searching, many hours reading (80% at least wasted / duplicate info), i have learned and compiled the perfect "how to drive like a pro, on ice" article. -
Ford Focus misfire after rebuild 18 Dec 2023 (Forum)
Possibly related, or possibly just my driving - I've had so many different courtesy cars in the last month it's ridiculous and they all drive differently. Any thoughts on what the problem might be? -
My new Tesla Model 3 11 Feb 2023 (Forum)
In the 800 miles I've driven, I can report I'm over the moon with it. It's so effortless to drive. Some would say it takes the fun out of driving, what with so many driver 'assistance' features and one pedal driving, but the lazy man is me is pleased. The performance is staggering, even though it's the slowest Tesla available. -
