Does anyone know the law regarding about using/owning a classic/recent replica or ex-police vehicle? Can you drive legally on the road with the full 'jam sandwich', lights (obviously not to be used) and police stickers?

I know someone who bought an old ambulance. He had lots of trouble (and failed in the end) about leaving some of the stickers on - copywrite is how they got him in the end.

The battenburg design Police Vehicles was designed by the Police Scientific Watchamacallit Branch. They delibrately left it without copyrighting it so that other users could pick it up. There are offences under the RTA of having a motor vehilce with blue lights and sirens etc.
