Ho ho ho - nice trick 3 Oct 2004 (Forum)
Evening all, I have a friend who owns a Peugeot 406 - nothing special - just a basic petrol model. (Not that well up on diesels). Anyway, he showed me a 'cool feature' today. When he pushed the remote button, the car unlocked and the lights came on - proper headlights and tailights that is. -
Pug 306 steering rack ??? 1 Sep 2004 (Forum)
Im sure if it was bad, it would have failed the MOT as the MOT garage is quite fussy. Fellow Pug306 owners try it out and let me know. I had a look at the Peugeot CD parts catalogue, and it appears the steering rack ram piston has a clip-on washer between the piston ram and the connecting rod (in the rubber gaiter). Do these wear?Has anyone ever had to change these? -

car servicing scam to end 17 May 2004 (Forum)
These restrictive clauses, which affected 49% of new cars sold last year, have now been removed following pressure from the OFT. This could save motorists up to £500m a year Audi, BMW, Chrysler, Citroen, Ford, Mercedes, Peugeot, Seat, Skoda, Smart and Volkswagen have fallen in line with the OFT\'s call, although strict conditions on the quality of the work by independent garages remain. DaimlerChrysler, for instance, insists that work is done to an \'excellent\' standard and uses approved parts for the warranty to remain valid, while BMW says servicing has to meet certain guidelines and use parts \'of a similar quality\' to its own. -
Recovery Organisations....Grrrrrrrrr.... 8 Dec 2003 (Forum)
Anyway, we spend quite some considerable time over the week doing this, checking that until I thought to myself - "Are those glowplugs correct for the car?" Needless to say, a set of genuine (Beru!) Peugeot (Pt No 596203) glow plugs and all is well. Do I have to say any more? Draw your own conclusions from that little story....... -- http://groups.msn.com/honestjohn - Pictures say a thousand words..... -
Advice for my Dad please! 18 Nov 2003 (Forum)
My Dad is 80, has owned a Peugeot 309, J reg, from new, now 80,000 miles, no rust, never failed MoT, used mainly for trips to Tesco (to buy wine in bulk for the discount!) and church on Sundays. Car has been making horrible grinding noises after it starts (starter not disengaging?) -
Pug 306 Head Gasket? 4 Nov 2003 (Forum)
I bought a peugeot a M reg 306 xldt with 110K on the clock from auction on Friday night for my wife & have been running through the car for 2 days trying to fix obvious problems. I know one of the glow plugs needs replacing, so that will be done shortly. -
Spares pricing. 19 Aug 2003 (Forum)
I'm buying parts at trade prices for various makes on a daily basis....with a particular bias towards Citroen/Peugeot. It used to be simple. Public paid retail and the trade paid trade prices. Now it is all over the place. It is now almost impossible to buy at the local motor factors as they are undercut by two shops in the city that open from 9-6, 7 days a week...and with lower prices. -
Two things... 9 Nov 2002 (Forum)
Does anyone know why I might be getting vibration and wobble through my steering wheel that's got nothing to do with wheel balance? Peugeot 205 XLD by the way. Also I've noticed the steering wheel is slightly turned to the right when driving in a straight line... could this be related to the wobble or do I have two different problems...? -
Big Bang Insurance 23 Aug 2002 (Forum)
If you have comprehensive insurance and reverse into a wall causing £2,000 worth of damage, you are insured and only have to pay the excess. But if a conrod lets go in your privately purchased 1998 Peugeot 306 DT (to pick an example totally at random) you could easily be left with £2,000 worth of mechanical carnage to pay for out of your own pocket. I reckon there are plenty of people who would pay for this kind of insurance, especially with garage labour rates and parts costs getting ever more expensive. -
Second time lucky? 16 Aug 2002 (Forum)
Having never before even considered buying a Peugeot, I now find myself having considered two in as many months! Some of you may recall when I asked for advice regarding purchase of a Pug 406 from a colleague, as my wife's first car. Reasoning was known full history and the price was right, but unfortunately, stupid insurance costs, and a buyer prepared to pay more than I (and over the odds), transpired against me. -
Blasted French car manufacturers 15 Nov 2001 (Forum)
The garage who normally service the car (non Citroen) apologised and said they were unable to do it because there is no central hole on the wheels on this car and apparently I believe on one of the other French manufacturers cars (Renault or Peugeot, which one escapes me). What this basically means is that these cheeky buggers are trying to force people to go to a Citroen garage to have tyres fitted at what can only be described as extortionate prices (we spent 55% less than Citroen quoted). -
Volkswagen Windsreens 13 Feb 2001 (Forum)
They in no way resemble large stone chips I have received, that have resulted in the need for new screens on previous cars. In an estimated 750,000 miles of driving a variety of other makes ? Ford, Peugeot, Mitsubishi, I have had about three or four windscreens replaced. In 25,000 miles of Volkswagen driving, I have needed four. Statistically, I have not been unlucky. -

CAR OF THE YEAR POLL RESULTS 5 Jan 2002 (Forum)
Third equal were the Ford Focus and SEAT Leon. Fourth equal were the BMW MINI and Skoda Octavia. The European Car of the Year, the Peugeot 307, got just one vote in the whole competition, in this category. DREAM CAR OF THE YEAR Was the New Porsche 911 Turbo, closely followed by the Aston Martin Vanquish, with the Lamborghini Murcielago and new Mercedes SL running equal third and the Bentley Arnage behind them. -
Vauxhall Grandland X - What are the facts about 'wet cam belts', Vauxhall and others? 21 Jan 2025 (Forum)
I am aware of the horror stories regarding the 'wet cam belt' design in these engines, which is also used in various Peugeot and Citroen models, for example. It seems pretty clear that there IS an 'issue', with early 'wet' cam belts - say 2017-2019 models? - being susceptible to deterioration and breaking up, allowing the resulting particles to block the oil pick-up pipe; no need to mention what this can do. -
Tyre noise - tread pattern...road surface....rubber hardness 15 Nov 2022 (Forum)
Also, road surfaces are very different. I've noticed the Goodyear vector 4 seasons on our Peugeot 2008 drone a bit on some surfaces, but are quiet on others. On the horrible concrete sections of the M25 I doubt if there is any difference between any tyre! Clearly the consistency of the tyre material is relevant.
