Peugeot 307 - Warrantywise won't pay - BOSHIRALI

My experience with Warrantywise:

I bought warrantywise warranty, the highest warranty available which covers all parts, I made a few small claims and they were approved and I eventually received my money. However one day my engine malfunctioned, after taking it to the VW dealers they stated I needed a new engine. Warrantywise made dozens of excuses as to why they will not pay out, they are as follows:

1 st reason – After inspecting my vehicle they refused to pay out because I was at fault for driving the vehicle when it was over heating. Just to confirm I am fully aware of the temperature gauge in my car, it is clearly visible and it was always on 90°C as it should be. In addition to the temperature gauge in my car I have also a dashboard alert which will appear if the engine is too hot.

2 nd reasons – they requested the engine to be dismantled at my expense before they will reassess the claim. After having my engine dismantled Warrantywise went to a different reason not to pay out.

3 rd reason - Warrantywise requested VAT registered invoices for previous servicing, I was the owner from 2011 they wanted me to get servicing invoices from 2005-2011. This was bizarre as Warrantywise are a used car warranty company and it would be difficult to get invoices for servicing from previous owners.

4 th reason – Invalidated my warranty policy until all servicing invoices where provided. On the website it clearly says when the warranty is purchased we will check the vehicle and service information, nevertheless I have had numerous small claims approved before but now that my vehicle needed a new engine ‘my service history is inaccurate’ even though my service has been done at the supplying dealer and all stamps and invoices have been provided.

5 th reason – Warrantywise cancelled my 2 year policy with 10 months left on my contract. - I find this outrageous; Warrantywise thought that I wouldn’t be to provide VAT registered invoices of the service history. Once provided, Warrantywise took a few days to find another escape route to stop them accepting my claim. They then decided they would cancel my policy altogether with no meaningful reasoning whatsoever.

Warrantywise refused to talk to me in regards to any warranty related issue as stated in their final letter to me. After filing for a court hearing and spending just under £150 for court cost, I was only then able to resolve the issue by accepting a partial amount back.

Details about repair:

Vehicle broke down: March 2012
Repair done: April 2012

Issue resolved: October 2012

Cost of repair: £2686.85
Warrantywise payment: £2000.00

Warrantywise have paid me for several smaller claims but refused to pay out for the new engine as it was a large amount of repair cost, even though the contract says they will pay unto the value of the car, which in my case was £4600. But after a stressful 7 months negotiating i had come to an agreement with warrantywise.

So I am hoping my experience will help others out.

Thanks

Once again i am very sorry for wasting your time, please can you delete the post on: 20/10/2012. this is due to the fact Warrantywise are on my back to alter the post. I am not even sure why they want me to change a sentance here and there.

If i was able to edit the post myself i would have done that.

Kind regards

(Edit: I have hidden the whole thread, having previously deleted another post at your request. I've no idea why you've now posted it again above.)

Don't feel bad with us, it is a known fact that certain aftermarket warranties are not worth the paper they are written on!

Totally agree, oldroverboy.

I would never pay for an aftermarket car warranty because most of them aren't worth the paper they are printed on. Too many get-outs, too many hidden clauses, too many ifs and buts, no thank you.

Better off keeping your money in your pocket and taking a chance. That's what I always do. If you think about it, that's what the warranty companies are doing, anyway; they make money out of running these warranties, so what does that tell you, eh?

Same goes for electrical goods warranties, too. The sales staff love to sell them because they make a nice commision on each warranty they sell. Do the warranty companies pay out more in claims than they collect from policy holders? What do you think??!!!

I considered a policy with another provider (as per promotion found on a certain daily newpaper) but, having reviewed the various policies and their complex benefit levels I decided not to proceed.

Was I right - I don't know yet, time will tell. But I am certain that with so many policies and various clauses I was put off - probably my thoughts were coloured by cynical expectation as well, but of course for others such policy might represent an excellent proposition. I appreciate insurance is a business aimed at making a profit.

I did once own from new an Austin Maestro car, and purchased the extended warranty option too. I was one claim away from recovering my outlay, but decided to upgrade to a Volvo 360 before the next fault was discovered.

I fear I am going down the same route as you at the moment its just one excuse after another.

I have already paid £100 for diagnostics by BMW who then logged a claim for work to fix quoating £1600 this caused WW to panic and send out their own assessor who made a report and the outcome of this report was that more investigations need to be carried out. BMW have called me asking for permission to do this work costing a further £800. so my dialimma now is I say no and WW wriggle out of another claim or yes and they then turn round with some other excuse for not paying their warrenty plan is a complete mindfield there are many grey areas where they can say things to get out of paying I dont think I will see any of the money I have already paid as they will say what is quoted in their plan "its your own responsibility to organise any diagnostics together with dismantleing" so I will be paying £800 to tell them whats wrong so they can give me some excuse as not to pay for it. I have read all the forums and am I no doubt as to what the outcome of this will be. Stay tuned and if you can offer any advice on how I can persue tis claim it would be appriciated.

I'm not sure if this is relevant to your situation, as it's a long time ago, a different company and different circumstances. But for what it's worth...

I had a warrenty on a used car, and when I tried to claim, the warranty company went down the small-print road. They first said "you didn't comply with this condition", but I could prove that I had, then they said "OK, but you didn't comply with this other condition". Again, I could prove that I had, then (you guessed it), came another condition that I had not fulfilled.

It was obvious that this was a war of attrition, and that they would keep going until I gave up or they finally found something that I hadn't complied with, or at least couldn't prove that I had complied with.

I sent a letter of complaint, and when this got nowhere (I'll spare you the details of this trail of correspondance), I asked the ombudsman to adjudicate. My case was: (a) the company had now had three bites at the "non compliance" cherry without success, and were refusing to pay for an apparently valid claim; and (b) I'd exhausted their complaints procedure.

The ombudsman decided in my favour and instructed the warranty company to pay. There followed a rather pythonesque exchange where they told the ombudsman that they had already sent me a cheque, so they could close their case now, I said "no they havn't", etc. (again, I'll spare you the details).

In the end, I got the cheque. Lots of hard work for what should have been a very simple claim. It took over six months, and cost a fair bit in postage.

I understand how you feel Warranty Direct just as bad, bought main dealer Warranty last Aug for £450. Up untill now ive tried to claim twice, but it seems although they may agree over the phone, when it come's to paying out they always have a reason why its not in the warranty. The BMW main dealer told me they always have problems with WD they dont seem to like BMW's. Good Luck.
