  • New Focus tdci 90 - underpowered??? 30 Mar 2006 (Forum)
They will be due their first service after being bought. I was just wondering if this car feels underpowered, it having the smallest power output on the new Focus diesel range??? Any experiences??? This centre is in Grenoble, France. You often see good deals on good cars in which the French have little interest, e.g.
  • No Lexus - It went bang. 10 Nov 2005 (Forum)
Could cost loads, or might cost not loads. No-one knows and to be honest, I've got a perfectly good car and am not really willing to risk it. If I had some money behind me, I might have still gone ahead and seen if I could have fixed it but I would have been knackered if I couldn't. It was an old car and I guess I'm lucky that this never happened next week as I'm not out of any money - just hurt pride after bragging about it on here.
  • Which Diesel - yes inc Mondeo! 2 Nov 2005 (Forum)
My brother's car has been written off and he needs to get new car. Looking at a diesel. Now, strangely, price is not too important (about 9k), as his friend works in a very large dealership and can basically get him "staff " discount or something along those lines.
  • Service History 12 Oct 2005 (Forum)
Parts all bought from the local motor factors (no Halfords in those days). Only jobs like decokes and new clutches were farmed out. Even when I got my first car in the late 80s (a 7 year old Capri) it had no paperwork other than the current MOT and reg document. My dad bought it on instinct rather than paper evidence of servicing. So when did all this change - was it started by the car manufacturers themselves?
  • Winning the fight over some big bills 6 Jul 2005 (Forum)
threatened to refer the case to the Financial Ombudsman Service. * VW Passat owner suffered premature timing-belt tensioner failure in four-year-old car (failed at 64k, but was said to be good for 80k). Original suppliers of car tried to evade responsibility for supplying car of unsatisfactory quality. Threat of court proceedings by Which? eventually resulted in the supplier's insurance company meeting the cost -- £1885 -- in full, in spite of the supplier having changed its trading name and no longer being a VW franchisee.
  • Timewasters 28 May 2005 (Forum)

  • Haggling on 2nd hand cars 12 Oct 2004 (Forum)
If the Volvo dealer doesn't have the S60 I want he said he can source from within the Volvo used network-how would he be open to haggling on a motor he has just brought in from 150 miles away, and from another dealership. Ah, the joys of car buying-I'm sure houses are easier.......
  • Tricky Golf MK5 Prob 7 Sep 2004 (Forum)
Hello I have just noticed that on my MK5 Golf 3 month old, that the lights that illuminate the top of the switch where you put your lights on, (not the actual light knob) the back lght to the hazzard switch and the red ESP backlight dont work. But when you start the car and put the lights on they illuminate for about 5 secs then go off?
  • Potential car damage liablility - House 31 Jul 2004 (Forum)
SWMBO and I have a disagreement. Part of out property, an old shop front in serious disrepair, fronts straight onto the road puplic highway, where two of our neigbours park their cars. Parts of the frontage could possibly fall onto neighbours' vehicles. To make necessary repairs could take a while, and we are planning to remove the shop front and convert this part of the property to residential accomodation, so we were planning to leave alone at the moment, as it is at least watertight.
  • C5 Airbag 9 Jun 2004 (Forum)
It didn't occur to me until the weekend, but the passenger side airbag on the C5 doesn't have a airbag compartment cover like most cars. So, in the event of the airbag operating, it will ruin the top section of the dashboard, which will require replacement which, no doubt, is going to be an expensive item. Does anyone know of any other cars with this design foible?
  • Fuel Consumption 10 Mar 2004 (Forum)
I have never worried about pollution/resources as such before but this started worrying me and when you consider the amount of cars in the U.S. with great big engines you begin to worry. Is this worrying due to me getting old or should we all start to worry?
  • Air Con trouble - Daewoo Lanos 23 Feb 2004 (Forum)
Car:- Daewoo Lanos 1.6 SX 1998 The gas (all of 8 litres) has evaporated from my air con system in less than 2 months (on a 5-yr old car). A reputable local garage/dealer partially recharged it and did a dye test and asked me to bring it back to them 2 weeks later.
  • Fiat - advise someone else who's tempted 14 Jul 2003 (Forum)
I'm new to this board, but looking back I gather that Fiat - the wisdom (or otherwise) of purchasing one, is a really hot topic when it gets going. I'm on a search for a small car for my 19 yr old daughter who's learning to drive. Lots more cars to investigate, but we both like the look of some nearly new or demonstrator Puntos. My husband is dead set against - then again he wont be driving it.
  • peugeot 306 1.9 DL MPG's ???? 22 Mar 2003 (Forum)
Currently I'm doing about 450 miles per week... approx 360 of those are a weekly commute from Sussex to Lincolnshire. My old 405 1.9 diesel (non turbo) estate with 120K miles on it easily returned 50 mpg on the same trip/conditions... the 306 is doing a max of 44... Car is going back to the non-franchised dealer next week..
  • Halfords car batteries. 27 Jan 2003 (Forum)
Although I'm fortunate ehough to have access to a car spares wholesaler, I inherited a Halfords 063 battery. When it showed signs of failure I went to Halfords without a receipt and smiled nicely and asked politely. They checked the code on it and said that is was less than 3 years old therefore they would change it for a new one.
  • VW Golf poor suspension? 2 Aug 2002 (Forum)
One has clouted a cats eye in the bottom of a dip recently, the other had a minor off road excursion recently due to excessive bounce. Both cars have been serviced recently (10K @ 3 months old) and VW were told to investigate - No fault found..(no suprises there then). I have heard a rumour that VW are having problems with these diesel cars and damage to the underside of the engine bay.
  • VW 1.8t 20v 16 Dec 2001 (Forum)
The garage replaced this FOC even though the car is 21 months old and a personal import with a 12 month garantee. However driving it home the temp still didn't get up to normal after 10 miles. (outside temp was +1C). Any advice please on how long it should take to reach normal and what the problem might be?
  • Ford Focus - minor incident - report to insurance company? 28 Oct 2024 (Forum)
According to my wife, the other car also had a few scratches. Given that it is a 16 year old car, and has a few other minor scratches, I don't think it's worth claiming from insurance. I will probably just touch up the scratches with a scratch repair kit.
  • SEAT Ibiza III - Not satisfied with car service ! 13 Aug 2019 (Forum)
[endif]--> Hi folks My wife took our 2011 Seat Ibiza for a full service at the local dealers from where we originally  bought the car from. They changed the oil and oil filter but definitely not the spark plugs, although they charged us for all 3 items. A few days later I took the car and showed it to a reliable mechanic (a friend of a friend) who confirmed that the spark plugs have not been changed because he can see the old burnt out ones still in the engine.
